Onboard Booking Credit

Just when I thought I have this placeholder thing down, then I read something that differs from what I have in mind. So, if I were to make 2 placeholders on a cruise, both placeholders must be used on the same future cruise? Now, as far as eligibility for booking a placeholder is concerned, I understand that two adults cruising in the same stateroom, but living at different addresses can each book their own placeholder, how are those addresses verified (ie: show ID)? Is possible to get around that by giving a different (but legitimate) address?

You can book up to 2 placeholders while onboard. When you convert the placeholder to an actual cruise, both placeholders must be for the same future cruise.

Each separate address may book up to 2 placeholders (or actual room reservations) for the same future cruise.

The address they go by is the address each adult used for the current cruise.

A "placeholder" doesn't actually have a date attached. It is good for a cruise that starts within 24 months from the date purchased.

So if we book a placeholder on our December 2018 cruise, then we would have to use it for a cruise before December 2019? Is there anyway to get a placeholder for a cruise in 2021? I'm very new to all of this, so sorry if this is a silly question. TIA

24 months from Dec. 2018 would be Dec. 2020. It is 24 mths to the day that you booked the placeholder, no more than that. Disney is very strict on the end date of your placeholder, but if you don't use it by that date, you will get your money refunded. We booked our placeholder on 8/14/16 and had until 8/14/18 to start a cruise. (We have now booked one that starts on 8/9/18.)

I thought they changed the policy of being able to book 2 per stateroom to 1 per stateroom. When I tried to book a second placeholder on my August 2015 cruise, the CM told me that I can only book one per stateroom since we all had the same address. I explained to him that it was going to be a for a B2B. It would still be the same people on both reservations. But he said no.

It would be great if they changed it back to being able to book 2. Can you tell me where you received this information?

I believe you can book 2 staterooms for the same future cruise, so it would only work for 2 rooms on 1 leg of the b2b. If you have 2 adults on your current cruise, they could list each 1 in a separate stateroom for the same future cruise and get the OBB/OBC for each room.

Actually, this is how we booked for that cruise. We booked 2 staterooms for our Aug 2015 cruise and my inlaws came with us. Of course it was under my husband's name. So, when I tried to book 2 placeholders under one stateroom, he said no. So, I just sent my husband and he booked another stateroom under the other room. He also asked the CM (this was a different one from the one I spoke with) and he said the same thing...only 1 placeholder per stateroom. So now I'm confused.

I'm going to try to book 2 staterooms on my summer cruise and see if I can. I thought they changed it so that you can only book 1 per stateroom unless it was for a b2b.

B2B used to be the exception under the old rules (before placeholders) -- you were allowed 2 staterooms on 1 future cruise date unless it was for a B2B in which case you could book 1 stateroom for each leg. I believe the B2B exception went away with the placeholders. You should still be able to book 2 staterooms for 1 future cruise date though.

It is 2 staterooms/address that may be booked BUT they must be for the same cruise. If you book placeholders, they have to be used on the same cruise - you cannot use them on different ones.

You (that is, each household/address) may book up to 2 rooms/placeholders on the same future cruise that will receive the onboard booking benefits.

You can book additional rooms/placeholders on the same future cruise, or rooms on a different future cruise while onboard, but they will not receive the onboard booking benefits.

That comes down to something else... If we want to take friends or family on a cruise with that second room, do one of us have to be the lead on the room? I ask, because there was someone planning a family thing where she needed 5 rooms. They had enough OBBs from a couple of cruises to have those rooms, but wouldn't she and/or her husband have to be leads on all those rooms? Can she just 'give' them to her family members, who will get the perks? That thread made things very confusing to me. Awesome if it can be done, but I am now confused as to which is right.

Each address may book 2 rooms. Regardless if it's one person at that address, or 5 people at that address.

You need to have a name on each reservation. You can book one room with both you and your husband's names on it, and a second room with another person's name on it. The other person doesn't have to be on the current cruise.

As long as at least one person from the current cruise (you or your husband) remain on your reservation, both rooms will get the onboard booking benefits.

I'm not sure how your friend would handle putting all those people on the various rooms. Probably, just adding them. BUT, any new names added to an already existing reservation will pay the current cost, not the price the room was at the time it was booked.

For example: Mary & Sam take a cruise and book 2 rooms for a future cruise. Mary's name on one reservation, Sam's name on the other (because they had no other specific name to put on it). Then, Mary & Sam take another cruise and book 2 more rooms on the same future cruise. Again splitting their names between the rooms. (Not sure that's doable, since they are already booked on that cruise, but let's say they can).

Then they find Joe & Sue, Ray & Cindy, as well as Sarah & Mike to take the cruise with them. All those people could be added to the various rooms (at the prevailing cost, I believe). Once onboard, every gets a blank KTTW card to unlock the door to the room they are actually traveling in.

It has never worked out for us because we only book with Florida resident rates and DCL will not let you combine credits. I really can't understand that logic, but they will not let you do it. IF you want the shipboard credits, they will take away the Florida resident rate and this really does not make sense!

That is why I like Princess, they let you combine credits like future cruise credits, veteran's credit, stockholder credit. Disney doesn't even give the credits for any past veteran or stockholders.

Thank you. I had this same form with me when I was booking. I thought it was going to be very busy so I filled it out. But when I saw there was no wait, I decided to just go and speak with him. Honestly, I think this was my fault. When he told me that I can only get 1, I was looking all over the page for something that would say it but I missed it. I no longer have that form, but obviously, it's written there.

Although, I do wish I had just placed it in the box. Perhaps someone else would have gone over the form and KNOW that I was permitted to purchase 2.

It's not allowed because it's like "double dipping". Many place don't allow such practices. Both the discount and the onboard booking OBC are "coming from the same pocket" and you can only get one or the other. Now, you can get OBC that's from a TA on a FL resident discount booking. Because it's coming from a different source.

Yes, and that is a bummer. As I mentioned, it is allowed on Princess (multiple shipboard credits!). That is a plus for Princess in my book! We are lucky to live in South Florida (Ft. Lauderdale area) where cruising with Princess is so much more convenient, too.

Also a bummer that Disney doesn't give the shipboard credits to all past vets, and to stockholders. But, that is Disney for ya.

Each cruise line sets it parameters for what (if any) discounts/benefits it offers. DCL does do military rates on selected cruises, but, yes, no military rates on all cruises.
