On the Western Fantasy 10/11/14

AWWW, Hi there, sorry about the delay, I understand! Welcome! This will be our 3rd cruise, 1st time on the Fantasy, and DD will be turning Sweet 16 on the cruise!

Always wanted to visit out west, really havent been anywhere off the east coast, except of course, DisneyLand! We live in upstate NY, but thinking of moving somewhere warmer... what made you move so far? was it hard?

Anyway... Welcome!pixiedust:

Yeah, it is a bit of a bummer, but we got to convince our friends to go, which is awesome, and it will be here before we know it. :)

I grew up in Northern Virginia, and lived there all my life, except my time in college, so this is a totally new thing for me. We've only been out here for two weeks, and in our house like four days (which means we are still covered in boxes but working it out slowly) but so far it has been fun. I can't complain about the mountain views when you drive around town. My husband was an Air Force kid, and his Dad retired in Colorado Springs when he was going into 5th grade. He lived in Colorado until his mid-twenties when he moved to NOVA and then had the good fortune to meet me. :) Haha! I've always known that he wanted to move back to CO, the same way that he knew that I was obsessed with Disney and we'd be going a lot. :) A great job offer came up, so off we went. :) It's been hard because I grew up in that area have a lot of friends there, and attended the same church all my life. Luckily, our closest friends moved out here in 2005, so we are having a great time being close to them again! They just signed up to go on the cruise with us!

Nice to meet you!

Okay, so our introduction:

Me - I am Kathy, and I am a Stay at Home Mom. I was a Technical Writer/Editor and Trainer before I became a Mommy. Until we moved to Denver, I also worked at my son's preschool as the music teacher, but it was only a ten hour a week gig. Since we just moved here, I don't have too many activities yet. I spend most of my time unpacking boxes. Lots and lots of boxes. :crazy2::crazy2::crazy2: In my spare time, I love to do various crafty things and read. I've run in the last two Princess Half Marathons with a couple of girlfriends. My times weren't anything to write home about, but I crossed the finish line and lots of people crossed after me. We'll be doing it next year too, as it's become a fun girls weekend! I am thinking about doing the Castaway 5K, but not sure if I want to worry about training on the ship.

Husband - Jeff is a Network Administrator. He used to work at the Pentagon, then the Department of Labor, and now, here in Denver, he is working in the private sector. He is a certified train nut who likes to take the kids train watching, and designs model railroads. Jeff and I have been on five Disney cruises. 1 three-day as part of our honeymoon to Disney, two Seven-day cruises before we had kids, and two more seven-days after Katie was born.

DD- Katie is in 5th grade now, but will be in 7th when we cruise. She is our little Belle because she is obsessed with reading. She also shares my obsession with the Harry Potter series, and the family obsession with Doctor Who. She was on a jump rope team in Virginia, but so far here in CO, she is just taking a class through the Rec center. Katie has been on two DCL trips. She was 10 months the first time, and three the second. She doesn't remember much except what she's seen in pictures.

DS - Colby is our crazy four year old boy. He loves to play and run. His birthday is the cut off day for Kindergarten here in CO, so he could start this year, but we are sending him to a Jr. Kindergarten program instead, and he will start next year. We didn't want him to be the youngest kid in his class. He is used to being the oldest! This will be his first DCL trip!

I suppose that sums us up.

More avid readers here..:hippie:.. Love the kindles... Has your daughter read The Kingdom Keepers series yet? By Ridley Pearson, Jenna has loved them and cant wait for the next one... They are set in Disney...:goodvibes

Mountains, I love mountains, and keep thinking of moving down to Florida but would miss my mountains... I hate the cold though, and considering we woke up today to 15 degree weather, I am not happy.

We also kept Jenna back in kindergarten, wanting her to be the oldest, not the youngest. she has an October birthday, but was due in November and NY cuts off December 1st...

Yes, everyone in the family has a Kindle except the four year old. :) My daughter and I read much more than my husband, but he still liked his when he was commuting to DC. Now that we are out here, he drives and doesn't use it as much.

Katie has read all the Kingdom Keeper books. She was excited that the last one went on the Disney Cruise Line!

I adore snow, so moving to Denver was exciting to me. Turns out that they don't get a TON of snow, but I've been here only two weeks and did get one storm that had about 6-7 inches. That was awesome. It is sunny and 58 degrees right now!

I do love the Rocky Mountains, and like seeing them in the distance, but I do miss the Blue Ridge Mountains. :) They aren't as big, but they are so beautiful!

I Guess I'll take a bite Maureen! Our life is kind of crazy too, so here is our intro!
Me: Robin, Recently took over ownership for a yarn store, and refound my love of crocheting! Have sold Avon for the last 13 years straight, and on and off since 1977, so if you need any help or ideas, feel free to ask... I take care of MIl, 7 days a week, making sure there is food, cleanliness and giving her meds 3 times a day. And getting the midnight calls that she has wandered off... er runs when she falls...

DH:Al works in a small town tire shop and is the only licensed inspecter there, pretty much 6 days a week.

DD: Jenna, who this trip is for.. She will turn Sweet 16 on the ship on October 12th , and this has been her wish since we went on the dream in February of 2012. Jenna is on the autism spectrum with Aspergers, so se has had a rough ride with people accepting her. She is an easy child :goodvibeswith a mouth that is non stop... just dont tell her any secrets... She trusts easily.

We originially booked the Wonder in february of 2014 while on our last cruise this february (yes its a yearly thing!), which is when Als shop closes for 2 weeks. Taking this cruise was a difficult decision due to the extra cost:scared1:. We have never done a 7 night, but like I said this is Jennas dream for her sweet 16 and since she doesnt have many friends, we are celebrating this way!

So that's our story, happy to meet you! NEXT::banana::banana::banana:

You are going to love the 7 night cruise. We started out with 7 and would never do anything less. 7 nights is a true vacation:beach: You get time to relax on the 7 nights. It always takes us past the first day to unwind from our lives.

Thanks for the AVON help offer. I think reality for me is it was always just a stepping stone to where i really belong in Direct Sales. So now the question is how long I'll keep selling to the customers i have(1 of whom is moving this summer). and how do i get my AVON stuff once I stop:rotfl2: Cause there are things i never want to be without. Premier Designs is so different from AVON its like night and day with the 2 companies really.

Your custommer can still buy from you, from your website. It will be a direct sale, and Avon will mail it to her... Plenty of times you can get free shipping for her... I have a few customers that live out of state, and this is how they keep up with me...:thumbsup2

Oh yeah I know. Every once in awhile my mom or sister will order for direct from me if I'm not coming up when they need something. If I could keep the website just for them and not order books, i might do that. Not sure if i can though

I dont believe it's a rule that you have to buy books. The only thing I can think of is that fee that they impose on sales.... Campaign five, we were on the disney cruise, and I ordered no books, but yet customers were able to order from my site....:thumbsup2

But i gotta buy something right? 3 campaigns with no orders from me and then I'm no longer an AVON rep. I can go more than 3 without buying anything for myself:rotfl2:

As for the website, I post it on my books, but my sister is really the only 1 who uses it. And that's infrequent

Yup, I believe you are right...Wish I can help you there... Have you tried books in drs offices, dentist, beauty parlor, or a laundromat?

Yup, tried all of those. Only time I got a so called customer I chased her around for a week to get her stuff delivered and paid for. No thank you, I'm done with that.

I jut look at it as the stepping stone it was meant to be for me. I'll never be sorry I did it, but high money in AVON was just never meant for me. I can see way more possibilities for myself in Premier Designs. For now I'll do both, but not sure how long that is going to last for. It isn't what I expected to happen, but you never know what the future holds.

Definitely not big money here, :rolleyes2and the expenses do keep climbing. I stay because I feel I have certain customers that depend on me... Once they are gone, I probably will be too.... I dread delivery days and packing everything up... BUt... it helps... Jenna can take her riding lessons helped by Avon... all is good...:)

Yeah same here, once most of my core customers are no more and I'm able to quit target I'll likely give it up. Premier is not cheap, but once you are established you order supplies on a less frequent schedule than AVON. Most of the ordering is actual orders from home shows and retail sales. And the Leadership structure is way different from AVON too. No minimums sales when just first starting out. And a LOT more training.

shmoogrrl: I am thinking of adding Dr. Who to our Netflix cue. Any suggestions as to which Dr/season to start with as I am fairly unitiated unless you count being freaked out as a child in the 70s with that opening sequence:lmao:

Well, we started with the beginning of the new series (2005), and then maybe any of the old Tom Baker episodes (fourth Doctor). My husband was a fan since he was a child, but I am new to the series. The new series is modern and all the Doctors are really good. My favorite is the 10th Doctor, played by David Tennant. I am biased for him though because he played Barty Crouch Jr. in the Harry Potter movies. :)

BBC America is doing a special show once a month called, "Doctor Who - Revisited." If you have On Demand, you can probably get January and February's. March's episode is this Sunday night. Anyway, each episode is dedicated to one of the Doctors. January was the first Doctor, and after a group talk about him (think like 'I Love the 80's' on VH1), they show an Episode from his time as the Doctor. February was the second Doctor, this Sunday is the third, etc....It's the 50th anniversary this year, so BBC America is showing a lot of specials. :)

I don't know if you have kids, or if you plan to let them watch, but I have a 10 year old who loves Doctor Who. We let her watch all of them at first, but the 'new' series can be a bit scary. After a couple of scary episodes, we started watching them before we let her see them, so that we could filter any that were too scary! The older seasons are pretty tame, and the special effects are so funny sometimes that they are rarely scary. :)
