On the 10/7 Dream Next Week - Hurricane Matthew????

So, if we can get on at another port, will they give us the option to get a refund if we don't have insurance?

Not if they offer to get you there. In the previous example ppl still checked in at the original location and were transported to the alt port. I don't know if a different scenario that has happened so you'd have to wait for their announcement. I hope it works out for all those involved.

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. —With forecasts indicating severe weather conditions related to Hurricane Matthew, Port Canaveral CEO John Murray today issued an evacuation order for landside operations. The order affects Jetty Park campers, marinas, and all Port businesses and tenants. The deadline to evacuate is noon Wednesday.

In addition to the land-side evacuation, the U.S. Coast Guard has given notice that the Canaveral harbor will close by tomorrow afternoon. Under the Captain of the Port order, no vessel traffic--including cruise and cargo ships, as well as recreational and commercial fishing boats --will be allowed in harbor until after the storm passes and the order is lifted.

"This is a serious storm and the protection of people and property is our primary concern," said Murray. "We expect high winds and storm surge throughout the port and have urged the Port community to prepare their facilities so business can resume as quickly as possible after the storm."

Port Canaveral has not shut down operations due to severe weather since the 2004 storms when the harbor was closed for 11 days to ship traffic.

This is what I was talking about. No one is going to PC so they wouldn't be transporting. I'm a control freak and this is making me go nuts. I don't mean to sound mean bc I know many are fearing of losing everything.

DD and I are on this cruise but the minute American Airlines waived its change fees yesterday afternoon I changed our flights to Saturday and made arrangements for the weekend at Disney. Got a room at the Dolphin for two nights. There is no way we were going to fly into Orlando on Friday which was our original plan. We don't have insurance so I made the change realizing that the cruise fare could be a loss but wanted to salvage something of our girls weekend.

Fixed that for you. I get that it's stressful, but assuming you didn't get cancel for any reason insurance where you'd get 50-75% back if you activated it, you're *only* losing the money you've put into your vacation. People in Haiti, Cuba, and other islands in the path of Matthew are the ones who have lost literally everything. I'm sorry to be blunt, but there are many thousands of people who truly have lost EVERYTHING in this storm who would love to only be out money for a vacation.

As for transporting, they could easily transport people from MCO if necessary - you wouldn't have to go to Port Canaveral.

That's exactly what she meant...reading comprehension...her original sentence was fine and needed no fixing.

No, there was nothing that indicated "only cruise fare". Could it be interpreted as such, possibly. But given that there are people who have truly lost everything (and I work with people who DO have family in Haiti who were still not back to their pre-earthquake level of life) it is unnecessarily hyperbolic to say "fearing losing everything" when they mean cruise fare.

my interpretation of what she wrote was that "fearing losing everything" was referring to the people living in the hurricane stricken areas...

What day where you to fly in? I know one of my friends was to fly out Friday and her flight was cancelled.... I live in Daytona beach area everyone is getting ready for Hurricane Matthew!

Thank you. This board (I thought) was to gain tips and info for the cruise this Friday. I clearly stated that I didn't want to sound "mean" by being upset my vacation is possibly ruined when others are losing homes and everything. My vacation is not everything. I simply got on here to get info not to be criticized and for someone to put words in my mouth. So Doug if you don't want to answer my questions about the upcoming cruise please don't respond. I sincerely feel horrible for ppl affected that live in these areas but I too want to keep my family safe and need updates. Thank you!

..... you definitely read that wrong. When she said there are others fearing losing everything, I'm 99.9% positive she meant those in Haiti and the Bahamas, etc.

Sometimes this board blows my mind.

FYI Disney updated their website today (Just saw when I was looking to book a cruise). It says no changes are being made to any of the sailings this week. I'm surprised at this point!

Exactly! If PC is closed the Dream can't return. They have to know where they plan to take the ship. Just wish they would tell us something!

Shifted EAST as of Wednesday morning

They said this morning that the storm is 450 miles across. That means that a shift of 40-50 miles to the east wont make much of a difference to port canaveral based on its current projected path.
