On the 10/7 Dream Next Week - Hurricane Matthew????

We have a DCL shuttle reservation from the airport to PC. Would that be cancelled in the event we have to go to another port?
If it is through DCL then they will take you to the new port(I think), if it is booked on your own you may have to contact they company you booked through.

This might be a stupid question but it's too late to buy trip insurance correct? Since the hurricane has been named.

I probably shouldn't say impossible -- but highly unlikely that you could purchase insurance today that will cover anything related to Matthew. Most travel insurance policies specifically state something along the line that if purchased after a storm is named anything storm-related is excluded from coverage. For instance, you could still purchase insurance and have the medical be intact, but any claim related to the storm would be denied. But, if you decide to look into insurance, shop around and ask specifically so you don't waste money.

Enjoy your cruise!

Okay. I booked it through DCL. I guess I just have to wait and see what happens.

Good plan(s). Mind if we copy and follow along? ;-)

I'm meuseman's wife ;) Happy to have you follow along, and hope we get to meet you on the Dream!

We're not typically "plan months in advance" travelers, but this trip has been in the works for a while (my 40th birthday is next week), and the uncertainly is challenging, but I am 100% confident we will have a good time no matter what comes our way.

Here's hoping for smooth seas and following winds :)

FYI jetblue just waived cancellation and change fees for people flying into MCO on thurs 10/6-10/10. I have a feeling that DCL will let us know their plan tomorrow. We are going to hold out till Thurs and then if no change with DCL or the storm we probably will cancel cruise. We have no desire to fly into a hurricane and then fly back into the same one on Mon. We probably would feel different if we hadn't been on the Dream last month and didn't have a B2B booked for next month.

We are moving ahead as planned. The cruise is part of a Land-Sea-Land vacation. We have mapped out potential scenarios and are planning what we would do in each case.
1) Cruise is cancelled - We work to find lodging in WDW for Fri-Mon.
2) Cruise is postponed by a day, leaving from PC - We find a night in WDW and drive out to PC on Sat for a 2 night cruise
3) Cruise is diverted (likely to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale) - we rent a second car, one way, to drive to FLL on Friday am and figure out a way from PC to WDW on monday.
4) Dream gets into PC late on Fri, delaying departure - We bring snacks and games to PC to deal with delay

The goal here is to make the best of a challenging situation. We have the trip insurance to cover needed extraneous costs. We have AP's so extra days in the parks are covered. We are working with our kids to help them learn how to address adversity and build resiliency in the face of unchangeable circumstances.
I'm assuming driving conditions in Florida aren't going to be great. So be careful.

You do realize that I-95 winds right down the coast in Florida? So you'd be traveling on a highway during a possibly cat 4 hurricaine?

Ok...with all due respect, we are fairly intelligent people with a good dose of common sense. Of course we would not drive through a Cat 4 hurricane. We'd stay on Disney property, and make the best of it. The contingency plans we outlined were in the event the storm passed through PC, but the Dream was not able to dock. I also have full faith and confidence that DCL holds our safety as top priority.

Those of us that are sailing on Friday are trying to plan for multiple case scenarios IF the conditions allow us to depart (even from another port). Let's not jump to ridiculous conclusions :)

Just to clarify JetBlue has waived CHANGE fees. They haven't allowed you to cancel yet. If THEY cancel a flight you get a refund, but you cannot cancel your own flight-only move it. Their statement was very specific about the change dates too.

I hope this can be the case for those of us there on Friday morning. Right now Disney shows NOTHING available for Friday Night. With the fact that the Dream can house 3,000 people and an busy Holiday weekend at the parks, its going to be slim pickings when it comes to finding a room on property. Not fun at all.

I'm confident we would find something. We were "stuck" in WDW during Hurricane Sandy and staying at the Poly. They were so gracious, extended our stay and gave us a great rate. It will all work out.

I leave in the morning and I am super excited!! Who knows what the week will bring, but I am fairly certain there are millions of people who would love to have my "problem" right now. Remember, our kids learn a lot about how to face adversity/uncertainty by how we react to challenging circumstances.

Happy travels, all :)

You have a great outlook on life! :dogdance::bday::dogdance:

The last time this happened, and the Wonder couldn't get back to PC because of an intense TS that came ashore in Barefoot Bay, they ported in FLL. We were taken to the Terminal in PC, where we checked in, received our KTTW cards, and then were loaded on to busses that drove us to FLL. (Yes, all the way down I-95 right through the storm). A definite E-Ticket ride :) and we passed all the busses taking passengers from that cruise back up to PC so they could get their transportation back to wherever they were headed next.

The funniest part was there was a couple on our bus that had driven up from FLL through the storm that morning so they could board the cruise in PC, only to be driven by bus back to FLL. They actually pointed out their house to the rest of the bus as we drove by.

This storm is a lot stronger than a tropical storm. I think the last thing first responders need is a bunch of people out on the road trying to make it to port for a cruise.

It's great you have a positive attitude, but I'm sure they're are also millions of people that are glad they don't have your problem. I doubt there's people sitting around going "Wow I wish I was vacationing in Florida this week". Kids learn by how we face adversity. I wouldn't consider this adversity.

Here is what southwest has up:

Additionally, based on the forecasted weather conditions for Ft. Lauderdale (FLL), West Palm Beach (PBI), Orlando (MCO), Tampa (TPA), Ft. Myers (RSW), and Jacksonville (JAX) in Florida, and Charleston, South Carolina (CHS), our scheduled service on Tuesday-Saturday, October 4-October 8, may also be disrupted (flights may be delayed, diverted, and/or cancelled).

Customers who are holding reservations on the dates indicated above for these two destinations, and want to alter their travel plans may rebook in the original class of service or travel standby (within 14 days of their original date of travel between the original city-pairs and in accordance with our our accommodation procedures) without paying any additional charge.

I wish DCL would let us know something. Obviously we aren't getting to PC. We are supp to fly to MCO Thursday morning...if it doesn't get cancelled.
