On the 10/7 Dream Next Week - Hurricane Matthew????

We will be on the 10/7 Dream sailing to celebrate my 40th birthday. Here's hoping for fair winds and calm seas for all us :)

update from NHC at 11:00 has the track missing Nassau and CC to the east -- hope that it keeps up with this easterly movement away from Florida.

if that is in fact the path, then CC is toast unless that hurricane is moving fast.

CC is north and east of that path, barely within the cone - the NW side of the hurricane has the least punch in terms of wind and rain. the hurricane force winds do not extend to CC in the present track

According to the NHC discussion
"It is important to remind users that average NHC track forecast
errors are around 175 miles at day 4 and 230 miles at day 5."
Pretty much means that it's too early to know how CC will be impacted by Matthew. The Captain should have a pretty good idea by Monday however.
Enjoy being on the ship whatever happens.

Just the tip from our cruise don't use Dramamine but use Bonine instead.

And I would definitely expect some alteration in your cruise path.

Love Bonine. And if you still feel queasy, green apples and/or ginger tea.

Wunderground seems to think there's a good chance of rain for Cocoa Beach on Thursday. Guess you'll find out then.

Looking at the 11:00 pm NHC advisory it appears that Matthew has slowed down a little bit. Don't know if that's good for the 10/7 Dream or not. But hopefully Matthew will be past CC and Nassau by then.

Very important to the discussion. Hurricane forecasting is not an exact science and in the past we've all seen these from time to time take sudden and "unexpected" turns.

I live in Orlando and watched the local station yesterday. Weatherman stated that hurricanes only follow the "cone of uncertainty" 67% of the time. There is a 1/3 chance that the hurricane will be outside the cone.

We were on the first Fantasy cruise after Hurricane Sandy. DCL tried to keep us informed that the ship was delayed a few hours, but the exhausted crew was very busy bringing in the ship so updates were few and far between. Our hotel near the port kept us informed of when to expect the shuttle bus to the ship. Passengers who weathered the storm posted updates here on the DIS, so that was our best source of info. Those of you who are cruising this week, if you have good internet access (without breaking the bank) other cruisers will appreciate the info.

BTW, Hurricane Sandy hit Castaway Cay but the island crew had everything under control by the time we arrived there some 3 days later. The salt water from the storm had turned all the remaining leaves brown and the only green was from the cell phone tower disguised to look like a palm tree, but the sand was well groomed and the shore excursions were running. Lunch was served on the island like nothing had happened.

We did have to change itineraries more than once. We couldn't stop at the Caymans because the port had been damaged, but DCL will do whatever they can to make your cruise as enjoyable as possible.

Still a long way out. Look how much Hermine changed course last month. We sailed during that storm as well.

Just got back from the eastern fantasy that left 9/24 .. had amazing weather despite not being able to dock Wednesday in St. Thomas . Captain Fabian tried that am but the winds were 37 mph? And were expected to increase later that day . Disappointing but glad he did :) we had the extra sea day with beautiful weather no rough seas .. we were able to dock at castaway and had a beautiful day there despite earlier predictions of Heavy rain and possible winds. Of course there was no compensation - just part of cruising . By 10:00 am that morning they had printed a new navigator (which by the way -we had complete navigators every day so maybe the negative feedback on the single page did the trick?) had more activities and character appearances too. Wishing everyone safe travels!!
