OLD THREAD: 2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ, Part 2- May, June and July DON'T POST HERE!

Looks like we're going to miss each other. I'll be leaving on the 21st to go out and help my daughter get her classroom ready for school and then I stay for the first week of school as a teacher's aide. I do lots of volunteer work at the school where she teachers as a Disney VoluntEAR. Tell your children I will miss meeting them and pin trading with them but that the "celeb" is my boss, not me. Mickey is the best boss in the world!!!!

I hope I get to meet you this September Teena, to personally thank you for all your help and information with everyone's questions!!!! :goodvibes

On our last visit a few years ago, (Like most of us here,) I had told my family all about you (even tho I was just a lurker for the longest time) but when I went to look for you, I couldn't find you. They too thought I was making you up!!! I found out when we got home, you had been  and weren't at work while we were there :sad1:

Your mentioning your boss is Mickey reminds me of when my oldest daughter was 3 or 4 (she's now 26) and we went to a family day at my husbands work and they had all the Sesame Street Characters there. My daughter thought my husband was the luckiest guy because he got to work with Big Bird!!! :p

When is your next work day after this trip Teena? We are there from Aug 25 thru Sept 3. Hope we get to see you!

I'll be back at work on September 2nd.

Keep in mind for the last four or five months they have been telling me my days are switching to Saturdays and Sundays instead of Sundays and Mondays. When? Who knows!! I start now at 9:30 AM. They have been also telling me we are switching to ten hour days so that means I'll be starting at 8:00 AM. When? Who knows! As of now, you can catch me Sundays and Mondays (when I'm not traveling to my daughter's, at a dude ranch [a one time occurrence I'm sure] or on a cruise) from 9:30 AM to 5:45 PM. I normally take lunch from 12:45 to 1:30 and a short break at 4:00 but those breaks are subject to change if I get involved in a guest situation.

I look forward to meeting you all!

Looks like we have a lot of New England folks on this thread. Anyone interested in a meet up?:cheer2:

That's a great idea.

I was going to suggest it would be appropriate to meet up in the new Earl of Sandwich shoppe they are opening in Boston Common. At the site of a former men's public bathroom. :scared1:

On second thought- let's meet somewhere else!

I know how you feel! School ended yesterday, and I can't wait the 52 days until we head to the Beach Club, school starts the week after we return:sad1:

Since I can't wait I'll ask more questions. Has anyone done club level with deluxe dining? We are planning on eating in the lounge most days for an early breakfast with an early TS lunch and a signature dinner most nights around 7-730. We have booked for dinner: Le Cellier, Cali Grill, Yachtsman, Flying Fish, Cape May, Tutto Italia, and Rose and Crown.

2 of my 3 kids love food and are very adventurous, one of these is a Disney adult this year and can't wait to order steak at every opportunity.

My husband is concerned we will spend to much time eating but I think the kids will need the mealtime out of the sun and in AC. We are not park commandos, I think there is always the next trip to see what we may have missed.

Do you think they will have to roll us back on the airplane?

We are doing Deluxe dining with F&W. I'm pretty sure we'll be rolling onto the plane too. We are doing a signature each day, so that helps, but we love to eat and to try new things and we wanted to celebrate this trip, so Deluxe was the way to go. I'm almost hoping we don't get lucky and score an upgrade to CL. Not that I'd turn it down...but I certainly would never be upset if we didn't get one.

I'd be up for a New England meet!

Hi Natebenma,May I mention another recent change on booking categories? I booked Yacht CLub Lagoon View-Club Level, and have a printout to that effect from when I paid my deposit in June 2012. When I logged into my disney account to view my reservation, yesterday, Disney has changed my reservation to Lagoon or Pool View-Club Level. This is the "new" designation. There is no sole lagoon view anymore. :sad2:
I did call the IPO, just to clarify what I had booked and wanted. They made a note on my reservation. I don't think the upcharge is worth it if someone gets a pool view. Crescent Lake, on the other hand, is lovely.:goodvibes

This happened to us the other morning as well. DH was checking the ressie on line and said that it stated Lagoon or Pool View-CL. I said, no it's suppose to be Lagoon View as this is what my print out showed as well and this is what I booked. I called IPO and was assured that we would have a Lagoon View. The Lagoon view to us is so peaceful, relaxing and just :cloud9:

:cheer2::cheer2:5 more days:cheer2::cheer2:

My BC Recap/Review:

We moved over from CR early Saturday morning. Disney took care of the bag transfers and we took a cab which worked great. We arrived and John working at the entrance met us. He was so nice and wonderful. He grabbed our packet from online check in and swept us up to the 5th floor. It was a busy morning so he took us on a tour of the lounge and helped get the kids settled with breakfast. He was so welcoming and I cannot say enough about him.

Rooms were ready about 1pm which was nice. SAB was awesome for the kids. With a 2.5 and 4 year old, I was worried about some of the reviews but the sand area was so beyond perfect for them. I loved it.

Captains Grill was tasty and relaxing though it was a LONG lunch.

We loved the walk to Epcot and I enjoyed the walk to DHS. DH felt the boats were slow (it took us 45 minutes to get back from DHS after EMH and that was once we were on the boat) but the location was great!

The best part by far was meeting Teena and getting to talk to her. She is truly as sweet in person as I imagined and made the visit to BC great!

CL--Now here is my only area where I hate to admit it but I was disappointed. I cannot really put my finger on it but I just never felt comfortable and overly welcomed. There were so great points. Neil made the kids beautiful birthday buttons (we had booked the trip on DD's birthday so she was convinced it was her trip). Jill helped me with a wrangle DS new water shoes on, now that was funny. I think that after our amazing stay CL at CR last year where everyone was so beyond welcoming and nice, this was just a change. There were not happy greetings when we got off the elevators, no asking about the day or talking to the kids about things. Also, the lounge closing for 1 hour at a time several times a day was just hard since it happened several times when we would have gone in (and no one was around to ask to get something). I don't know if it was just that I wanted to love it so much and there was no way it could meet my dream, if what we experienced at CR was really above and beyond the ordinary so we were spoiled or if it was just the timing of when we happened to be around. I do know that if this had been our first CL stay, I don't think I would spend the extra money which makes me sad since like I said, I wanted to love it there. It was just strange that the people in the lobby were so much nicer, welcoming, friendly and are what made BC so much fun for us and not the CL staff.

Now IPO though did a GREAT job shopping for the welcome gifts for the kids! They did so well! IPO at BC was better than CR so I guess it is a trade

Overall we really liked BC and know if we can get into BCV for a couple days we will for sure be back.

We are arriving at Beach Club on July 8th, just a few more weeks. We made our reservation through AAA. I did request a room with a daybed and balcony. Should I do anything more? I have read possibly fax a request? I don't want to be pushy but also don't want to miss getting a daybed. We will be checking in around 10:30 AM.

Also we did not receive our ME vouchers with our packet. When I posted a question about this a few people responded that I will receive them in the mail. No sign of them yet, should I be worried?

thanks

If you book through a travel agent, the vouchers I believe go to the travel agent who gets them to you.

If there are five in your party mix, you should get a daybed. Otherwise, if you request one, you might get one but it is not guaranteed. Requesting a balcony doesn't help. I assume you mean you want a full balcony? If that is the case, your reservation should read "full balcony requested" not "balcony requested". We have patios, full balconies and standing balconies at the BC.

Teena - sorry to hear we'll miss you. :sad1: I have a feeling we're going to love the BC and will be back again. Catch you next time!

Have great time with your family! :)

You know, although I would do CL at BC again in a heartbeat, and I wish I were there RIGHT NOW and overall was really pleased with the service we got, there really wasn't anything done for us "out of the box" by the CL staff. There were two occasions when, in retrospect, someone could have stepped up and done something to make the stay more special for us. Again, this is not a complaint, but just where there could have been room for improvement.

The first was our last day. The night before, we went to DTD and DD designed a t-shirt. We were told that we would have to go back to DTD to pick it up because it was too late to arrange resort delivery. When I was at MK EMH solo the next morning, I realized that it would be a complete PITA to go back there, and would mean that I would spent a bunch of time on a bus, or a bunch of money on a taxi. So, I texted DH and asked if he could ask the CL staff if they could arrange to have it picked up for us. He asked, but they told him no, they couldn't do it. :( I really didn't think he asked properly (sometimes people have a harder time saying no to me! He is just too nice! LOL) so when I went back, I found a different CL and asked, and she arranged it for me, which was so lovely. I hadn't made any other requests of CL since the gift baskets on arrival so I didn't feel so bad. They said that they would get their "runner" to pick it up, and later that day, the t-shirt was in our room. It really added to the last day to have that done for us, and I surely appreciated it, but I wish that they hadn't turned down DH when he first asked because it was a bit of added stress to our morning knowing we would have to take time to head back to DTD. Why did they say yes to me and no to him???

Second, I have to say that I was quite disappointed that CL didn't do anything to make DS's day of misery (he spent a day throwing up from sunstroke we think) any better. The morning he started being sick, I let them know so that they could send up housekeeping (caught us all by surprise. ew). It took a couple of hours for housekeeping to make it to the room, and DH had to call multiple times in addition to me telling the CL staff. Because of the noise and disruption when they came in to clean the room, DS wanted to leave and the only place DH could think to take him was the CL lounge (I probably wouldn't have, because what if it turned out to be gastro? But DH didn't know what else to do). That was all you could do, and once they got there they did an AWESOME job in cleaning the room. However, nobody checked with us at any point during that day or the next to ask how he was doing, or if they could do anything to make him more comfortable or even to see if DH needed anything. I told CL staff that DD and I were leaving DH alone in the room to care for DS before I left when I stopped by the desk to get a couple of movies for DS to watch. I told them how guilty I felt about DH having to spend the day in the room with DS while we went to the parks. It wouldn't have cost anything for someone to call DH to ask him if he needed anything brought to him from the lounge, or just even to call and see if everything was all right, and would have made DH's day much better since he was trapped in there! Also, during the hour that DS spent in the lounge while they were cleaning the room, he was so sick that he put his head down on the table and went to sleep like that. Nobody came over to check then either! I was kind of disappointed by that, especially when reading about other people's experiences.

We also didn't get 5th floor check in, which surprised me, and we weren't greeted by name when we got off the bus (we were the only family to get out at BC). Now, I DIDN'T CARE about either one little bit, and if I hadn't read other people's experiences on here, then it wouldn't have even been a blip on my radar.

The only thing "out of the ordinary" that CL did for us during our trip other than getting the t-shirt was to add some extra chocolate and Twizzlers to the gift baskets for the kids.

Again, this isn't by way of a complaint, because I had a phenomenal stay and can't imagine staying anywhere else for our next trip, but those were a couple of opportunities where the CL staff could have stepped up, and I was a teensy bit disappointed that they didn't. Maybe reading about so much "pixie dust" had my expectations up higher than they should have been! :rotfl: All that said, I found the staff friendly, always said hello and had a kind greeting. I didn't chat much with the staff either, so I wouldn't blame them for not knowing our names or being more specific in their greetings.

Take those comments for what they're worth!

My husband might be related to yours or I'm related to you. We have the same situation. I'm always telling him how to say/ask things. He's such a pushover too because he'll just take the first answer he gets and be done with it. Not me! And it's not like I'm rude or pushy, but I just know how to get things done.

I am not in the least hard to get along with, but I worked a service job for years, and do not like it when I get terrible service. DH seems to just accept whatever! Our little joke is that when I say, "I'd like to see the manager" HE says, "I'll be out in the car." :rotfl:

Feckless, I so understand your feelings about the service you received from the CL staff. A human expression of compassion, telling you that the experiences you and your family had mattered, was what you were looking for. It would have been so easy to provide. A smile, an expression of concern, a willingness to help--all would have had an invaluable impact without a dollar sign attached. The staff at the BW CL needs to step up. The human interactions are the Disney hallmark; they are the pixie dust we all look for. Small gestures can have high impact. Your suggestions are very valid, and I hope they take note.

I completely agree. I think that was where my disappointment came from. It was the above and beyond that was missing. Everyone was pleasant and did their jobs but nothing "extra". I cannot imagine they let your DS be miserable without something.

At CR the CL staff had snacks packed for the kids on our checkout day. They all came out to say goodbye. It was the extra stuff that made our first CL stay so amazing and at BC I just did not get the special Disney service I had expected.

Hi all..
Thanks to this board, I found that a pretty good match for the lovely BC scent was "Rainkissed Leaves" at Bath and Bodyworks. Sadly, they discontinued this fragrance about a year ago. For those fans of it, like me, I wanted to let you know that B&BW is currently having their semi-annual sale and they've brought back "Rainkissed Leaves!" ....and cheaply! I got hand soaps, body lotions and shower gels for $3 each! Just an FYI....

Now for the sounds. I know that the soundtrack in the lobby comes somewhat from an album called "Sounds of Wood and Steel." Have we figured out any of the rest of the music? And while we're on the topic...what about the super-relaxing music they play on the bus when you're headed back to BC from the parks? Anyone have any idea what that is from?

TIA! :flower3:
