Official Wine & Dine 2014

We are hoping to stay at AoA, and I'm so glad to hear that you can walk over to catch the transportation at Pop. Do we need to do anything in advance, in order to take advantage of their transportation? For instance, do we need to go to the front desk at Pop to get a special pass or do they use the honor system like the other Disney transportation? Sorry if this is a silly question, but this is our first RunDisney event and we don't want to get there and have no transportation to the race.

No worries, they're all valid questions. :) No, you don't need anything else, your bib should be plenty sufficient. If you have spectators though, it's best they go to the finish line and not with you to the start line. Don't worry, when it comes close to race time (for whatever distance you do) you'll see big groups of people walking in the direction you think you should be walking in, or wearing their bibs/hydration belts.. just ask and join in. :)

Awesome! Thanks so much for the info!

Did someone here say that this run ends in Epcot, so if you stay at an Epcot resort you can walk back "home"?

I've been sick since before the WDW Half and it's all finally starting to lift. I'm finding that I've forgotten details of a LOT of stuff in this last month+, and the question I've just asked is one of the "did I dream that or did I read it?" questions I have. :)

yes, it ends at epcot, in the parking lot just outside the front gates, then you walk back into epcot for the after party. or you can walk back to your hotel if you're nearby. :)

I'm in!!!! DH loves wine and dine festival so much he's totally on board with me doing this. There is nothing like running in WDW and this is just what I need to get back to running and drop my weight. Can't wait to register and make it official!! :cool1:

It looks like I'm finally going to get to run Wine & Dine this year!!!

As of now we are planning to stay at Boardwalk but that may change to Beach or Yacht Club depending on discounts.

Question: My husband would like to join me at the after-party. How far in advance of the race do I need to arrange for Kids Nite Out to babysit my kids?

Amanda

We already have plans to be there but I am on the fence about running. I ran the half the past 2 years and LOVED it! This Nov we are meeting another family from a different state and I know the race will effect our vacation. But I really want to do it...ah decisions decisions!

Hello! I'm new to dis and new to runDisney, too. :) A friend and are are thisclose to booking for the Jingle Jungle 5K. I've done several 5Ks (always walking--these boots were NOT made for running!) before, but most are untimed, fun ones. I am a fast walker, so I'm not really worried about getting swept. I love Disney, and am so excited at the thought of combining the two. The weather here in NJ has NOT been conducive to outside exercise as of late, and my dog and I are hoping that changes soon!

I haven't read all the way through this thread (I will, I promise!), but I was wondering if anyone had any newbie advice for me--I mean, anything. Registration tips (I already have an Active account), room discounts (they don't exist anymore? Should I book the room only part now?), park tickets (rd says something about discounts for participants?), tips on the actual race--I will gladly take any advice that you want to share!

:yay:

First off, welcome from one Jersey girl to another! I agree this winter has been horrible and less than motivating. The training plan for the half at wine and dine doesn't start until July so you'll have plenty of time to prepare for the 5k if you're this far out.

If you're a dvc member or annual pass holder you can register early. If you have a Disney Visa card you can't register early but can get a discount.

After you book rundisney does off discounted room and park tickets (which are generally pretty good as far as Disney pricing goes).

While I haven't done a Disbey 5k yet (I'm signed up for the happy haunted 5k though!) Wine and Dine was my first half last year and I absolutely loved it! If you're already active and not worried about getting swept id say keep up the momentum! Otherwise the couch to 5k app is a great tool to start off with.

While you're there you may want to look into getting tickets to the after party. You won't get admission with your 5K bib so it'll have to be purchased separately. The perk though is you can get into Epcot before most of the runners and take advantage of food and wine and the attractions open before people start crossing the finish line.

Bottom line, I would say go for it! It's so much fun and you won't regret it :)

Does anyone know what the discount is for disney visa members for the wine and dine, or if there is one. Also if there is, how to apply the discount during registration?

no discount for disney visa, but if you find one online (DVC will usually have a $10 discount) you enter it in the final screen when you're ready to pay and hit submit. :) There's a box for "coupon code". :)

Thanks for the warm welcome! Glad to hear I can use my Disney Visa for a discount on the race reg--where would I find that info?--and also glad to hear that I might get a discount for room and tickets after registration! Do you think I should wait to book a room, or book one now and adjust/cancel after registering? I am getting so excited for this!!

Hii. Sorry, there are no reported discounts for Disney Visa cardholders, the only discount that I've seen are for DVC (Disney Vacation Club) members. It's typically in an email or the member log in pages. but who knows if it changes..

If you book a room with an agent, they for the most part can refund you the money if there's a discount released after you book after you register. Also keep in mind the key resorts that are host resorts, not all WDW resorts cater to the different races.

You use the first 4 digits of your Disney visa in the coupon code box (just used it for TOT registration!)

A hotel question ... The hotels I am looking at have the non-discounted prices around $400-500. I can expect discounts when it gets closer, right? I've always had an AP and used that rate, so I have no idea!

Another question -- is it logistically possible to do both the 5k (me) and the kids race (my son, but I'd want to be there)?

OMG. I totally forgot that i need a ticket to the after party since I'm only doing the 5k!! My bf is doing the 1/2. That makes my fees almost as much as his. Boooo. I might have to rethink this...Thanks again!

Does Epcot typically close early to the general public for this party--I see that it starts at 7?

Thanks, I will try it when the time comes!

It is a really flat course. There are inclines going in and out of the tunnels at Churchill Downs (which are relatively steep and a lot of people walk) and a couple of little hills, but other than that pretty flat. The second half of the full is very, very hilly. The full splits right about when you leave Churchill Downs. The weather could be anything from slow flurries to heat (70s at the start) and humidity. The year Mike did the marathon it was close to 80 and sunny when he finished. He was pretty miserable. We are still really hoping to not be here in 2015, but if we are then we will definitely need to do some fun stuff when you are in town!:goodvibes

And if you're here by then, we will definitely show you the town! :cool1:

Thanks so much for the pixie dust, guys! I managed to finish with an official time of 43:50, which would definitely be better than I thought I'd do. I placed 252nd out of 260, which makes it a little less exciting, but oh well!

Also: I love flat ground! (My neighborhood route is *hilly*.)

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

you most definitely cannot walk to the start, you will need to bus in.. everyone will be bussing in, or you can park at the WWoS. WWoS is closest to All Stars first, then AoA/Pop second. but you can walk back from the finish though since we run through the Beach Club.

Oops! No parking at WWoS. We stay at a one of the DTD hotels with no race transpo, but it's not big deal to drive to and park at Epcot. :thumbsup2

If we parked a car at Epcot earlier in the day, we would be able to pick it up when we were leaving the after party right?

Absolutely!;)

My non-running support crew went with me on the bus to the start the past couple of years and had no problems at all. Unfortunately, the last bus back to Epcot leaves about an hour before the start, so they don't get to stay for that.

**********************************************************
I  seeing so many newbies excited for this race! It's by far my fave (of course I've only done this one and the Donald Half in January (hated it!). After this one though I'll probably take a little runDisney break...the prices are killing me! And I only live three hours away! :scared1:

Don't laugh (okay go ahead), but I've already started working on my costume! What ideas are you guys tossing around this year? :confused3
