Meaning it helps you retain water instead of sweating it out, to help during runs? Or it helps get rid of water that might have been retained? (tried a very quick google and got nothing useful)
Faccia Bella, Coach Charles on this board quotes someone else (I believe) and says "we are all an experiment of one". So we have to experiment with ourselves. I *have to* have a hydration backpack. I cannot use water or sports drinks on a course; they make me sick to my stomach, and I need to have them on my schedule, not the schedule of the course creators. I use certain products like an exact type of Clif shot blok, etc, because that's what works for my body.
Apart from "don't eat anything on the course you've never tried unless you understand that it COULD mess you up and destroy any chance at a PR, even if you have always had an iron stomach", I would say the only true rule is "figure out what works for you".
Although active.com articles are often a bit fluffy, I like reading them. Sometimes I get a little bit of insight from them.
