Official Wine & Dine 2014

Doesn't that mean you can use it as a Coast to Coast? If so, nice. :)

Yes! I'm excited for that, since I"m not going to be getting any extra challenge-type medal anytime soon :rotfl:

Hotels: I've been to WDW so many times, but I'm sad to say that I've never even been near the Wide World of Sports. If we stay at Beach Club, can we walk to the start? I really want to avoid bus transport to the start, if possible, but I know I don't want to walk back after Epcot! :faint:

you most definitely cannot walk to the start, you will need to bus in.. everyone will be bussing in, or you can park at the WWoS. WWoS is closest to All Stars first, then AoA/Pop second. but you can walk back from the finish though since we run through the Beach Club.

I don't know Disney property well enough to know if you can walk to the start from any of the resorts. We wanted to be within walking distance from the finish and party, so we looked at Beach Club and Boardwalk, went with Beach Club since that is my travel agents favorite.

Thanks! I just asked my husband, too, and he laughed at me. LOL. We love the Beach Club, so I'm guessing we'll be there.

The Princess, WDW Half / Full start at Epcot, so you could walk to the start from Beach Club or Boardwalk, but it's a bit of a walk. That's about it.. Expedition Everest starts in AK, but that doesn't mean AKL is close enough to walk to their start, lol. silly park/resort layout.

everything i learned about running, nutrition and such i learned from here:
http://www.runnersworld.com/

it's a huge wealth of information, just poke around. :) also, the best advice i've learned for nutrition was to test out products on your training runs, find what works and use that. everyone is different. :) most people use gu or clif bloks/shots every 45 minutes or 3 miles to help you keep going.. if you find yourself feeling dizzy or nauseous, you'll need to look at your electrolyte/salt levels and drink gatorade in addition to water (water alone can't help you all the way through). salt tablets also help if your sweat is extra salty.. look into chia seeds for water retention. :) good luck!

Thanks so much for the info! :thumbsup2. I will definitely check out runners world and test some of the recommendations. So far my "long" runs are only about 4.5 miles, but hopefully will keep building toward that 13.1. :dance3:

look into chia seeds for water retention

Meaning it helps you retain water instead of sweating it out, to help during runs? Or it helps get rid of water that might have been retained? (tried a very quick google and got nothing useful)

Faccia Bella, Coach Charles on this board quotes someone else (I believe) and says "we are all an experiment of one". So we have to experiment with ourselves. I *have to* have a hydration backpack. I cannot use water or sports drinks on a course; they make me sick to my stomach, and I need to have them on my schedule, not the schedule of the course creators. I use certain products like an exact type of Clif shot blok, etc, because that's what works for my body.

Apart from "don't eat anything on the course you've never tried unless you understand that it COULD mess you up and destroy any chance at a PR, even if you have always had an iron stomach", I would say the only true rule is "figure out what works for you". :)

Although active.com articles are often a bit fluffy, I like reading them. Sometimes I get a little bit of insight from them.

Hoping to run the 5k W&D this year with my daughter who will be 12 at the time of the race. If we don't have any prior race experience, will we be dumped in the last corral because we have no proof of time? Should we run a local 5K to get proof of time by September? Also, if my daughter runs cross country at school will they accept something issued by her coach as proof of time?
Also, any input on the best resort to stay at in terms of ease of transportation to and from the event is much appreciated.
TIA
sss

chia seeds hold water really well and release it slowly. if you drink/ingest chia seeds, they're supposed to help you keep the water in, keeping you hydrated longer. of course there are no scientific lab tests that show this, but if you get some chia seeds and put them in water.. you'll see how they look after about 15 minutes (they clump up because they're drawing water to themselves) and if you leave them out to dry out on their own, it takes a few days. :)

Looks like RunDisney website is officially updated for 2014 for the wine and dine. I think I need to make a tag line "Will work to Run Disney!"

Thank you for the information :thumbsup2. I will definitely keep experimenting with different things to see which works best. Cannot wait to experience my first half! :goodvibes

No PoT is needed for the 5K races - in registering, you'll be asked to enter your anticipated race pace. PoT is only required for the half and has to be from a race of 10K or longer.

Honestly, all host resorts are good options as they all offer buses to/from the expo and race. Go with what fits your budget and mood! If the EP resorts are appealing to you, they do offer the option of walking back to them after the race - assuming you feel like walking some more after the race, lol! I would think boat transport would be available, too, but I don't know that for sure.

Hello all. Just thought of another question with all the talk about host resorts. The W&D 1/2 will be my first runDisney event, and I was just wondering if someone could tell me which resorts have been host resorts in the past, or which are predicted to be this year? Is that something they would list when registering, or just something you "know" from previous races? Also, if you are staying at a non host resort, would there be transportation available at all? Thanks in advance!

Per RunDisney.com, W&D's host resorts were last year:
Value: All Stars, Pop Century
Moderate: Caribbean Beach, Port Orleans FQ & Riverside
Deluxe Villa: Saratoga, Boardwalk Villas
Deluxe: Beach Club, Boardwalk, Wilderness Lodge, Polynesian

Source: http://www.rundisney.com/travel/disneyworld/

My friends & I are hoping AoA will be part of Value this year, but there's no word on that yet, as historically the hotel hasn't participated in seasonal discounts (it's currently not in the Spring Discount Block right now either). However, AoA is a short walk to Pop where you can use the buses to the expo/race start/finish. :)

It's recommended to stay at a host resort because they'll have transportation to the race events.

If we parked a car at Epcot earlier in the day, we would be able to pick it up when we were leaving the after party right?

Coming out for the W&D 5K this year. My first race. :cheer2:
Very new at this whole thing. My question is: If the 5K is in the Animal Kingdom, does that count as my park entrance for the day? Do I need to get a park hopper if we want to spend the day at another park after the race?

Running through the parks does not count as park entry, so you don't have to use any park tickets on AK unless you go back later.

If you are not at a host hotel you will have to arrange transportation, drop off by taxi or have someone drive you. You are not allowed to park at ESPN, besides the race does not end there anyway. I stayed at AoA and walked to Pop for the bus.

It is really a great race. I did the half the past 2 years and swore that I would not do 2014. (I am doing Princess next weekend) but we already have a trip booked for that weekend and I told DH that I can't imagine being down there and not running it! The first year I ran with a friend. This past year she was injured and I ran it alone and it was still a wonderful experience!

We also have run the 5k twice before- once when it was in Sept and then again in 2012. The kids races are also fun if you have little ones.

We are hoping to stay at AoA, and I'm so glad to hear that you can walk over to catch the transportation at Pop. Do we need to do anything in advance, in order to take advantage of their transportation? For instance, do we need to go to the front desk at Pop to get a special pass or do they use the honor system like the other Disney transportation? Sorry if this is a silly question, but this is our first RunDisney event and we don't want to get there and have no transportation to the race.
