I was just on the RunDisney page and browsed the FAQ. I just noticed that those not staying at Host resorts will have to park at WWOS and then get shuttled to DHS.

Just curious.. does Disney give out more detailed directions at the expo or is what you see on the website it?

Also, for those not staying at host resorts how do you plan on getting the run? I'm staying at SSR and DD&DH will join me later. We will have a car but it seems like it might be easier to get a cab or something?

We haven't decided yet but we will probably either take a bus to DTD and then boat over to POR or take a bus to Epcot and then walk to BC or BW.

ETA: UGH, never mind - I found the detailed info. And I am NOT happy - I booked with DVC points and didn't mind being at a non-host resort since I prefer to drive anyway, but that's clearly not going to work. Guess I'll just drive to a host resort...

That works for getting TO the race, but how are you going to get BACK after the race. I'm guessing that the regular bus transportation to the resorts will only run one hour after the regular park closing time.

I was planning on driving to a HOST resort and taking transportation from there too. I wonder if that will be an issue? I guess it would be the same if we drove to WWoS, but POR would be closer and easier (we are at SSR).

Question on tapering-Who believes/follows this method?

If we ran 9 or 10 this upcoming weekend and then started tapering would that be too early? We'd probably drop down to 7 then 6 then 5 over the next 6 weeks.

thanks.

All depends on how tight security is with parking.

I, too, am staying at SSR and renting a car. My race companions are staying at BWV without a car. They added me to their reservation, so I can have a proper parking pass without any qualms of ethics.

The DH and I will also be at SSR, staying on points. Of course this is the first time ever being on property without a car, so I'm starting to panic a little. I know there's no need, but we've never taken a cab before and it stresses me out a little. I just assumed that we'd be okay to take a bus to one of the host resorts, but never thought about the ethical part of it.

Exactly what I'm thinking, too. :thumbsup2 It also occurred to me that I'll feel much safer getting to my car in the middle of the night parked very near a bus stop than in the large DHS lot, so maybe this is a blessing in disguise. As an added bonus, POR and POFQ have some nice options for pre-race feeding, so I may drive over early, grab something to eat, and then take the bus to the race.

:thumbsup2 I'm waiting to see where my race buddies book, too - I know they want to be at an EP resort, so I may do the same thing.

Question about race buses...

How do they work at the moderate resorts - do they go around and stop at every bus stop, or pick up at the main entrance like a ME would? We stayed at AKV-Kidani for the Everest Challenge and didn't realize the race bus wasn't coming to the bus stop, only the lobby entrance at Jambo.

In other news, I took my Newtons for another run this weekend, increasing to 2 miles of my planned 4-miler... AWESOME! Felt like I was on springs and pulled an 11:48 Magic Mile - unheard of for me in the heat of summer! And no IT band knee pain until mile 3 - when I'd been in my other shoes for a mile. Is there really a connection, or was it just that 3 miles was all my knee could take of canted roads/sidewalks? IDK. Think I'll wear only my Newtons on today's short run (hopefully on un-canted paths) and see how that goes...

me and my friends are staying at a host resort, we lucked out and got the free dining plan to....
I did wanna ask, did anyone get anything in the mail yet in regards to the race or just any disney mail regarding your up coming trip??:confused3

If it helps, I've had to use cabs in WDW before and it's no sweat - they're usually hanging out in the resort parking lots and bell services/front desk/valet can call them for you. :thumbsup2

Regardless of ethics, how would you get back to SSR? You would need to take a cab at that hour. Unless you were planning on speeding through the course, skipping the after party, walking to BW and taking a bus to DTD and then walking to SSR.

My friends take cabs in WDW often. They have always had pleasant drivers and no incidences of negative goings on.

Thanks for pointing that out! Looks like we'll be taking a cab for the first time!

I believe in the taper and practice it, per trainers orders :) It's not quite as much for this race since it's a 10 miler, but I am tapering. My training plan takes me up to 7 miles max for this race (which I may push to 8 on the 3rd one, we'll see how I feel that day)...then 2 weeks before race day I have a 10k and then a 5 miler one week before race day. The week of the race I'll run two 3-milers probably on monday and wednesday and that's it. I taper for half-marathons too, normally taking the long run up to 10 miles max and then tapering for 3 weeks (or was it four? I can't remember for sure now!) I really feel like it helps...not only with the extra rest for the legs, but in general my energy level is sky-high by race day...I think it's because your metabolism gets so high during the long training months and then when you start to decrease your activity a little, your metabolism still stays high. My trainer says the plans are designed that way so that you peak on race day...and it usually works exactly like that for me if I've followed the plan.

Ditto for me on the cab situation...we take them all the time when we just don't feel like waiting on the bus or don't want to transfer if we're going hotel to hotel...never had any problems whatsoever and it's really not that expensive. We've gotten spoiled and take them more often now than we probably need to.

I am um...thrifty. I used priceline to snag a rental for the weekend. Friday through Monday, $72 (taxes and such included). I've had good luck with priceline in the past. Its through Avis. Priceline estimates I 'saved' 78% by booking through them.

Really?? That's a pretty darn good deal! And there is no shame in being thrifty, my friend!! I had no idea such a deal would even exist! I am :worship: you for finding that!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Well, I think we might try to get into employee parking at DHS, if not, we will try Boardwalk. There is absolutely no reason to be parking at WWoS for a race that starts and ends at DHS. I'm hoping to see a better plan in the final race instructions cause this plan is poorly planned out.

Quick question about the Villian's Bash. Is our bib our way in? Does anyone know?

My DH and DS are running the 5k and I signed up for the 10miler so I bought 2 tickets to the bash since my ticket was already paid for. However, due to injury I don't think I'm going to be able to compete in the 10miler. I still have time and I may go for it but I'm not confident I'll make it past a couple miles so I'm thinking of signing up for the 5k but I still want to get into the bash. If I choose not to run the race how would I get in the park?

I don't want to sell my bib because it's my way into the party. I guess I could always just do the race and quit when my arches and shins can't take anymore (probably mile 3-4) and just hit the party then but on the off (likely) chance I don't even attempt the 10miler (overpasses are scaring me since hills really mess w/ my shins) how would I get in?

For the Wine and Dine ½ it was not your bib, but a wristband they gave you. I assume it will work similarly for the Villains Bash.

You could always try and speed walk or jog the flat parts and walk the uphills!

But I do believe it is a wristband and not the bib. You can always send an email to ask exactly how it works too, that way you know well before hand exactly what you'll need to get into the party.
