Well, I actually like Makayla and I like Carrie, too.
Makayla reminds me of Fran Dresher. She has her schtick and should stick to it. It is working for her so far.

IMO tonight's voting off was very callous & cruel to the men & women who left.
I also think the men's talent far outshines the women's. It's not even close this year.

My predictions? Definitely Scott, even though he does fine, and the one who sang first for the men. He annoyed me - too cocky I think. There's a fine line between cocky & confident.

The "Fran Dresher" girl will probaby get on America's last nerve & be gone soon as well.

It would be nice if AI would come up with a more humane way of letting the people know who got voted off...and then expect them to sing? What's up with that?

I can't comprehend the concept of having those that were booted sing. Maybe as the field winds down and people have their favorites, but right now, I'm just not liking it. First off, you didn't move on because people didn't like you. And second, it's just mean to have these people sing. None of them want to and it just makes for excruciating television. I changed the channel when the second girl was booted because she just looked so forlorn. Personally, I thought she sang okay the night before, and I would've been upset had I been her, too.

Also, I'm not liking these early audition rounds this year. The show had an overall sense of gloom. You weren't seeing people win and advance, you were seeing people lose and others still have another chance.

While I think it's somewhat good that AI is attempting to have a more balanced final 12, I don't like that these nights feature people getting kicked off and not advancing.

This is precisely why I tape it. It IS excruciating to watch. I spared myself the Ryan Seacrest mystery nightmare by fast forwarding all of the talk AND the final songs. These are young people and to see them have to suffer like that... oh well, it brings out the MOM in me...

The 4 to go were no surprise to me either. Though others should've gone they DID have a bit more exposure and remember, this is quite the "popularity" contest. I'm just glad I get to see Travis one more week even though I thought his fine butt was OUTATHERE!

Someone wake me up when Little Barbra is booted!!

And what they did to Judd was just horrible! He went through that whole line of guys and the bottom row all thought they were safe, and then he just goes "Judd you're out."

it was horrible. Now everyone knows even if Ryan says you're safe, you're not. I felt horrible for Judd. Sitting there thinking "PHEW I made it" and BAM "You're off!" ugh. That really upset me. I don't think Ryan was all thrilled with the way they did it either. Still fuming....

I totally agree that the way Judd was eliminated was wrong but Ryan never said they were "safe" just that they could relax. Still wrong, wrong, wrong.

Arg! The two I really thought should be gone are still in, Makayla (drives me crazy and where's the talent??) and David (just can't sing!). I felt really bad for Judd. I think he should have been given at least one more pass through.

At least all my favorites are still there: Carrie, Nadia, Scott, Bo and Anwar.

I agree. It's so sad they make them do this, especially when they are so stunned and fighting a lot of emotion.

Absolutely WRONG what they did to Judd! Here is where this show changes from a true search for a star, to a bad reality show.
I agree with everyone about the "losers" having to sing. You have just been told that of all the remaining contestants, you are the least popular. And, you have no charisma, and your song stinks, and... "Why don't you sing it again for everybody?"
Pathetic!

That's competition, you gotta take the good with the bad. I feel bad for the ones that don't make it but such is life. Now after I was eliminated , I seriously doubt I could sing.
Now is when the competition gets interesting.

Has it ever happened that someone who is sent home just walks off stage? Refuses to sing? Sure, maybe it would be poor showmanship, but who would blame them?

I actually felt bad for Ryan when he told Melinda she was going home. I don't think he was prepared for the look of total shock he got. It didn't look to me like he had the first clue what to do for/to her. I thought she stood a chance of passing out.

What about Simon having no comments for poor Jared after he was voted off?? Didn't Ryan say something like "Simon, do you have any positive comments for Jared?" and Simon just said no. I know he prides himself on being "honest" but I thought that was just plain rude.

I am SO glad that Celena made it through but now she needs to perform. No more fear or caution!

I agree, she's got a beautiful voice and I'm glad she's got another chance to prove it.

I think it's terrible how biased the judges are already -- Simon: "Carrie, I think you are one of the favorites to win, as I've said before." Tisk, tisk....let the "people" decide Simon.

I thought Melinda sucked and I still do. Her voice is not cut out for a Celine Performance. Her notes just weren't high enough--and on a song with a lot of them....when you sing it in your key and within your range--if it isn't a wide range, it will sound bad. Her being mute was a result of her confidence thinking she made it through. And her "it's not fair" bit reminded me of the braces girl who couldn't remember the words to her songs and did an "it's not fair" bit for the cameras outside.

On the flip side--having to peform under adversity is giving the contestant one last chance at exposure b/c it's done from here on out for them. And most of the time...b/c of all of their raw emotion--the songs sound a heck of a lot better than the previous night (even if they had done well but just didn't score enough votes).

I'm sure the guys shakeup was for viewers and for the contestants--perhaps they're having too much ego off the set that we are not seeing and it was meant to be a wakeup call. You never no. It could have been a "live" decision by the producers--meaning at some time during the show they elected the cruel and unusual punishment route. Hopefully, the viewers will be rewarded in kind with some fantastic performances next week. It's American Idol--but it is also recording industry boot camp...and last night they had to run a few extra miles.

And the "stick to rap" comment---I thought it was Ryan who said it--then I got confused when everyone here and I guess all over America thought Constantine said it. At least he had enough votes b/c I would hate to think someone loses for something they did not say instead of their performance.

I think that, like most of you, the whole Jud thing was pretty hard to take. It doesn't make for 'good' t.v. Just comes across as mean spirited. Hope they don't do it again. But as far as having the 'losers' sing a final song...have you ever noticed that a lot of them sing much better at that time? They are no longer competing, they are not a bundle of nerves...nothing riding on this song. So, they sing better. And I'm sure that some of them are hoping to have that one last shot at being seen and noticed by someone 'important'.

As far as being a loser...well, I think we have to keep in mind it could be a matter of a very small number of votes that makes you the bottom vote getter. I bet that those kids with bigger families, towns behind them or the sympathy vote, will do better for awhile yet. But when more have been voted off there will be much more leeway in the voting..some singers getting a lot more votes than others.

You had to love watching Constantine squirm last night, when Ryan had him just stand and wait, while he went down the line.

How many here actually vote? Occasionally I will vote and I did throw a few to Joseph because I liked his song (though it seems not many did). I was thinking last night that I'd probably be more inclined to vote if we were voting who to send home rather than who I like. I like several but really wouldn't put forth the effort to call for 3 or 4 people each night; however, I usually only really dislike one and that would be a much easier call to make.
