What was your life like when you were half your current age?

I was 34. Been married 9 years. My kids were 4 years old and 5 months old. Been in my house 8 years. Been working in the same job for 2 years. Had a 1990 Mercury Sable and a 1983 Mercury Lynx in the garage and a 1987 Chevy Suburban in the driveway. Had one cat. The kids and work occupied most of my time.

I was 36, with 2 small kids a husband, a job I loved and life was good. My parents were still living, my health was good and we were still a couple of years from the heart attack that changed how my husband lives his life. You know the song Those Were The Days my friend I thought they'd never end we'd sing and dance forever and a day....we'd live the life we choose, we'd fight and never lose for we were young and sure to find our way. Oh, if that could only be so.
I feel so bad for your situation. I also was 36 with 2 small kids, living parents, but I now realize how lucky I am that, although my health is far from what it was, DH's isn't. I was running 5Ks-now I can no longer walk without a walker or wheelchair. DH was running Marathons, now he can run 10Ks.

The number of my friends with knee and hip replacements seems to grow every month. The hard core runners and skiers seem to be the ones hit hardest. One friend had to have both hips done at age 50 and is still skiing at age 72. I had an auto immune issue due to medication I was taking. Almost 100% now. But at age 68 cataracts are my speed bump in life. Waiting to get those fixed.

I was living with my husband, infant twins, plus a 1, 4 and 6 year old, at 34. It was tough but I had the support of my parents (since passed, but they lived 1/2 mile away), and friends. It was difficult but I loved it.

I like your quote! I can relate...my husband now has an LVAD (left ventricular assist device) and spends his days with a timer set for his medications. I have COPD and Crohns, and get around thanks to a ECV or a wheelchair. It's sure not how I pictured our later years, but it's still better than the alternative.
