After a glutinous voyage on the Fantasy book ended by stays at WDW, I am back (no thanks to Hurricane Sandy) with less than 10 day until the next trip down.
From earlier in the thread it seemed to say there was only one hill on the route. No other overpasses or anything as well? just that one hill?
There are two overpasses that we will pass twice (four ups and four downs), the "Hill from Hades" and one other uphill off ramp. Other than the Hades' incline, it isn't anything you will notice much.
Has anyone who's flown and taken their medals with them had any trouble with the medals and security? I want to bring my
Disneyland 1/2 for pictures, but don't want it confiscated by security and you never know what they'll do.
I wore my first C2C & DL ½ medals to the airport. I was hobbling a bit and the TSA agent gave me a break and let me go through the express/VIP line. As soon as they went through the scanner, I wore them cross country on the plane, all the way home.
(I took them both with me the next time I went to WDW to have photos taken as well.)
Ran the Detroit half marathon today in 2:08! It was my first ever half and I only ran 1-2 times per week during my training. I'm wondering if I have enough time before W&D to get to a sub-2hr pace?
The other consideration, if it were even possible, is how that would affect the rest of our trip. I don't want to injure myself and ruin 7 days of park-touring with my husband and kids (3 & 6).
Maybe better to just relax and enjoy the sights, and think about working toward a spring race?
Congrats on the Detroit Free Press ½. You won't have to deal with the Bridge or the Tunnel. And you will have a little bit of Disney magic helping you along. But you may have character distractions slowing you down. Enjoy yourself, that is priority #1.
I'm coming from north Seattle, WA.
Question building off Sleepless Knight's question. Those who are doing the C2C, are you running with your Tink/DL medal? What pictures are people referring to when they mention wearing the 1st C2C medal? Thanks!
Anyone doing the Coast 2 Coast Challenge will receive a wrist band at packet pick up. Once you get your medal for the Wine & Dine ½ a few yards down and off to the side, they will be handing out C2C medals and cutting your wristband off.
Do they give the C2C medal at the finish once you have earned it? Is there a special shirt as well?
Special shirts that you can buy.
Hi everyone,
Myself and a few other friends are supporting our one friend at the race. We are all spectators & have tickets for the after party.
What we'd like to do is cheer our runner at a place on the route & hold up posters for her to see. Does anyone know of a good place along the route for this?
Thanks!
A friend might be coming with me and he asked me to figure out where he can see me the most. I will share what I suggested to him and see if it will work for you as well:
Have tour spectator accompany you from your hotel (or Epcot if you are driving and not using Host Hotel transportation) to the pre-start area. Hang out in the staging area. If it is important that they see you on the course, have them leave to find a spot along the fence after the starting line before you head to the corrals. Otherwise, hang out until you have to go to the corral.
Once the last runner has crossed the starting line (maybe even sooner) buses will start to run to Epcot and to Host Hotels.
If your spectator wants to see you on the course, have them go to Boardwalk or Beach Club and sit along the boardwalk/dock for you to run past. This is a great area to be able to get a hug or a smooch or a high five from your family as you are in the 12th mile and the end is near.
If your spectator wants to see you finish, have them go to Epcot and wait at the finish line. Since it is in the parking area this year, they won't need to enter Epcot prior to your finish. (But since they have tickets, they can)
I meant meeting at 8:30 with picture at 8:45. Question - when/ where is the warm up stuff, that puts me in a good mood and would be fun to find others to do it with.
They will be doing the warm up stuff from 7 or 7:30, probably earlier. Just be careful. I like having fun and getting pumped up, but doing the Cha Cha Slide on an uneven field could lead to trouble.
I hope the woman with the shrill voice isn't there. I always seem to be right next to a speaker when she is announcing.
On the other hand, I'm hoping that Orlando starts cooling down just a shade as well. No need for 70 degree nights for our race weekend!
I flew home from WDW last night. Cooler temps have arrived. For the short term at least. Brisk 51° when I woke up at 8am.
Does anyone know how to sign up to have a runners status sent via text to family members?
How accurate is it? I'm hoping it will let DH know where I am and when I should finish.
Just sitting here waiting for Sandy to knock out my electricity ....
There will be a link provided by runDisney (or a fellow DISer who finds it) as well as having terminals set up at the expo.
The more they use the system, the better it functions. I sign myself up for text and email notifications as well as my family members who want to know. The past couple of races, within 20 seconds of crossing the timing mat, I get a text that says:
