Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

I am staying at All Star Music. :thumbsup2

Has anybody ever had tummy issues with powerade on long runs? I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong yesterday. Powerade and stinger chew bad combo? Drank a little powerade again today and felt my tummy feeling weird.
I've got to get my act together! Next week will be here soon!!! Can't wait!!!
I have never had any issues with Powerade. I have been using the ION4 in lemon lime. I also have been using honey stinger chews, but have been alternating between those and flavored glucose tablets during a run (more of a mental thing, so I don't get bored with the same thing throughout a long run). I agree with the pp and avoid that combo during the race and try Powerade with other fuel, or your current fuel with just water.

Since the Disneyland 1/2, I've been alternating between gatorade and water on my long runs. I have both and take a drink from whichever one I feel like. For me, that has really helped me on the long runs as I don't feel quite so dehydrated. I've also noticed that I sweat a lot less salt. Powerade vs. gatorade doesn't matter for me. I prefer powerade, but usually the gatorade powder is cheaper.

I also got some encouraging news last night. I've been wondering how I would deal with the late start as I usually go to sleep around 11:30ish. With the Giants winning the World Series last night I was too excited to sleep and finally fell asleep around 1:00am. So I figure if that excitement kept me up, the excitement and adrenaline of the race will help carry me through. :)

Does anyone know how to sign up to have a runners status sent via text to family members?

How accurate is it? I'm hoping it will let DH know where I am and when I should finish.

Just sitting here waiting for Sandy to knock out my electricity ....

I run with a Nathan belt w 2 bottles and on long runs I have one bottle with gatorade and the other with water. I just alternate. During the actual 1/2 last year I ran with water and just always took powerade at the water stops.

It's amazing what adrenaline can do to us! :)

My DH used the text updates to follow me for Tink 2012 and really liked them. He felt like they were very nice and accurate.

Hope you're safe & sorry that you'll probably be in the dark soon. :(

Staying at music also. :)

I believe you can sign up for the text updates next week.

I did it for DL and the only thing to note is that they give the time in 5k increments... My mother had difficulty figuring out how far along I was when I got to the 15k mark... Plus you can have them email it to your phone so you know your own expected finish time!

After a glutinous voyage on the Fantasy book ended by stays at WDW, I am back (no thanks to Hurricane Sandy) with less than 10 day until the next trip down.

From earlier in the thread it seemed to say there was only one hill on the route. No other overpasses or anything as well? just that one hill?

There are two overpasses that we will pass twice (four ups and four downs), the "Hill from Hades" and one other uphill off ramp. Other than the Hades' incline, it isn't anything you will notice much.

Has anyone who's flown and taken their medals with them had any trouble with the medals and security? I want to bring my Disneyland 1/2 for pictures, but don't want it confiscated by security and you never know what they'll do.

I wore my first C2C & DL ½ medals to the airport. I was hobbling a bit and the TSA agent gave me a break and let me go through the express/VIP line. As soon as they went through the scanner, I wore them cross country on the plane, all the way home.

(I took them both with me the next time I went to WDW to have photos taken as well.)

Ran the Detroit half marathon today in 2:08! It was my first ever half and I only ran 1-2 times per week during my training. I'm wondering if I have enough time before W&D to get to a sub-2hr pace?

The other consideration, if it were even possible, is how that would affect the rest of our trip. I don't want to injure myself and ruin 7 days of park-touring with my husband and kids (3 & 6).

Maybe better to just relax and enjoy the sights, and think about working toward a spring race?

Congrats on the Detroit Free Press ½. You won't have to deal with the Bridge or the Tunnel. And you will have a little bit of Disney magic helping you along. But you may have character distractions slowing you down. Enjoy yourself, that is priority #1.

I'm coming from north Seattle, WA.

Question building off Sleepless Knight's question. Those who are doing the C2C, are you running with your Tink/DL medal? What pictures are people referring to when they mention wearing the 1st C2C medal? Thanks!

Anyone doing the Coast 2 Coast Challenge will receive a wrist band at packet pick up. Once you get your medal for the Wine & Dine ½ a few yards down and off to the side, they will be handing out C2C medals and cutting your wristband off.

Do they give the C2C medal at the finish once you have earned it? Is there a special shirt as well?

Special shirts that you can buy.

Hi everyone,

Myself and a few other friends are supporting our one friend at the race. We are all spectators & have tickets for the after party.

What we'd like to do is cheer our runner at a place on the route & hold up posters for her to see. Does anyone know of a good place along the route for this?

Thanks!

A friend might be coming with me and he asked me to figure out where he can see me the most. I will share what I suggested to him and see if it will work for you as well:
•Have tour spectator accompany you from your hotel (or Epcot if you are driving and not using Host Hotel transportation) to the pre-start area. Hang out in the staging area. If it is important that they see you on the course, have them leave to find a spot along the fence after the starting line before you head to the corrals. Otherwise, hang out until you have to go to the corral.
•Once the last runner has crossed the starting line (maybe even sooner) buses will start to run to Epcot and to Host Hotels.
•If your spectator wants to see you on the course, have them go to Boardwalk or Beach Club and sit along the boardwalk/dock for you to run past. This is a great area to be able to get a hug or a smooch or a high five from your family as you are in the 12th mile and the end is near.
•If your spectator wants to see you finish, have them go to Epcot and wait at the finish line. Since it is in the parking area this year, they won't need to enter Epcot prior to your finish. (But since they have tickets, they can)

I meant meeting at 8:30 with picture at 8:45. Question - when/ where is the warm up stuff, that puts me in a good mood and would be fun to find others to do it with.

They will be doing the warm up stuff from 7 or 7:30, probably earlier. Just be careful. I like having fun and getting pumped up, but doing the Cha Cha Slide on an uneven field could lead to trouble.
I hope the woman with the shrill voice isn't there. I always seem to be right next to a speaker when she is announcing.

On the other hand, I'm hoping that Orlando starts cooling down just a shade as well. No need for 70 degree nights for our race weekend!

I flew home from WDW last night. Cooler temps have arrived. For the short term at least. Brisk 51° when I woke up at 8am.

There will be a link provided by runDisney (or a fellow DISer who finds it) as well as having terminals set up at the expo.
The more they use the system, the better it functions. I sign myself up for text and email notifications as well as my family members who want to know. The past couple of races, within 20 seconds of crossing the timing mat, I get a text that says:
Wine & Dine Half Marathon:
RACE PARTICIPANT
5K in XX:XX. Pace: XX:XX.
Est. X:XX:XX. ETA XX:XX:XX.
Presented by RunDisney.

Me too! It's my first time staying there - I can't wait!

You will love it! It has everything right there. My fave is the chocolate chip muffins at the Boardwalk Bakery and the cookies and cream ice cream at Seashore Sweets. Not that I have a sweet tooth or anything...:lmao:

I'm coming from Duluth MN, and my husband Kevin will be cheering me on, as always. I never feel I'm running alone because everyone is so friendly! I'm bib number 5511, and with my estimated time of 2:45 I'm happy to be in Corral C.

We are also running the 5k.

For the half I am dressing as Minnie Mouse.

I can't wait for the W.I.S.H. meet up!
Another Minnie Mouse from Minnesota! And Corral C also!

We're staying at All Star Music.

There is no way I can go through all 81 pages of this thread so pardon me if this has been asked and answered....

Does the race go by and are the lights on for Osbourne Spectacle of Lights?

Please say yes!!!

Yes. There are several YouTube videos that show it. My favorite wine and Dine is the one by "adventureswithben".

So excited to run through the Osborne lights - thanks for bringing that up!

For those who asked, the text alerts were accurate last year - I got them for my sister and it was very helpful.

Did my last LR last night! Yippee!!!! I only did 11, but I'm glad I was able to do it. It was much harder than my 11 miler in September, which makes me nervous. However, I'm feeling SO much better after my run than I did last month, so the recovery was better. I tried to do a better job of pre-hydrating and had some gatorade during my run and that really seemed to help, as well as my post-run beer and salty snack! :thumbsup2

I had to run on the treadmill last night and get this. No more than 10 minutes after I stepped off (after 2+ hours on it), I'm just about to shower and there goes our power! So once again, I'm thanking Sandy for her timing. I would have been very upset to end up on the floor in a dark basement after bonking off my treadmill screen! On the other hand, I'm hoping all those who are struggling with much worse power and flooding situations are doing ok out there. :sad1:

Congrats on your run! You've come a long way!

I just ran 5.5 miles at a 12.20 pace - my goal for the 1/2 was for a 12 min pace per mile, so this is probably a good sign I can do it - right??

First of all, for all those who got smacked by Sandy, if you can read this, I have my fingers crossed for you that everything is all right:grouphug:.

I ran 6 last night and was cold the whole time, but finished with an average 11:02 mile. It's a little slow for me but faster than I have been running the past week. And don't laugh at me, :rotfl: yes, I DO think mid 70's is cold!:( Especially when accompanied by a heckuva wind!! I'm already planning on ordering a long sleeve tech shirt as I know the nights in Orlando can get chilly, especially if there's a breeze blowing off the World Showcase Lagoon.:boat:

My running BFF came up with the greatest idea yesterday - since I figured I was going to feel kind of silly doing a practice run with my costume on, she suggested just go out with it on tonight. No one will think anything except maybe who's the overage goofball dressed up for Halloween?:jumping1: Hopefully there won't be any costume malfunctions!:hyper:

That's a great idea. Perfect day for running in a costume!

That is an awesome idea! Thanks for sharing. I was worried about the same thing running in a costume locally. Mine's just a little something, but it's enough to not be your normal running attire. I think I'll go run in it today, during the daytime. I've got to take my little one trick-or-treating tonight and answer the door for the goblins. :)

Ooooohshie. I hope it warms up just a tad in Orlando for next Sat. night! Thinking of buying a long sleeve too. 8 more days until we leave!:cool1:
