Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

Been watching the 10 forecast too. I can't decide what to wear. My tank with sleeves was originally planned. (Planned on taking off the sleeves during the race though.) I guess I'm going to go buy a long sleeve to possibly wear. I like a light, long sleeve in the 50's. 60's and sunshine - a tank is fine. Did that yesterday. Low 60's and dark and I might be a little chilly. Oh, the last minute decisions..... :) We leave a week from today! It's almost here! :cool1:

Well, keep in mind that sunset is at 4:30 or something like that. You'll be getting on a bus in the dark.

If there's anything I've learned weatherwise down here, is expect anything minute to minute. It can be sunny one minute, pour like crazy, and then sunny again 10 minutes later :hyper:. I'd say prepare for anything. Can't go wrong with layers.

I'm definitely planning on a tank still, but I do still need to get some sort of throw-away long sleeve top to wear beforehand. I ran in the dark in 63 degrees last week in shorts and a tank and was comfortable so I think that's my plan. As long as it doesn't precipitate, I'm happy.

This weekend though it's supposed to be 48 for a high and that's the warmest it will get before the race. Brrrrr!

Now to work on staying awake for the late start! :thumbsup2

It's all about my favorite thing...nappy time!! :thumbsup2:cloud9: I'm thinking a nice couple of hours downtime, get up around 4-5, grab light dinner (pasta? protein?) and over to Epcot around 7ish.:cheer2:

It is really down to the wire! At this time next Thursday, I will be on my plane about to take off. I feel like this next week is going to drag, yet at the same time I am wondering where the heck time has gone. So crazy the time is just about here!!

Anyone else watching the 10 day forecast? Right now it's a low of 63 for race night. Given that temp will probably be in the wee hours of the morning and not at race time I'm a little nervous. Is 65-68 degrees in the dark hot? No. But it's not exactly what I was hoping for either. I did do some hot weather running this summer but my body has acclimated to our cooler temps this fall up here. On the other hand, we will not be freezing our butts off waiting at the start and it looks like it will be dry. :)
:) I am so excited about these temps! 60-65 is my perfect running temp! Woohoo. :cool1:

You guys are all making me laugh.:rotfl2: I must be part reptile as I think anything below 80 is freezing!:lmao: I was just up at WDW last weekend and it was breezy (thanks Sandy) but the humidity was nothing.:thumbsup2 This time of year is typically beautiful temp and humidity wise. It's supposed to hit 80 this afternoon and 70's tonight for the big Miami/VA Tech game (GO CANES!!:cheer2:), but I'll keep an eye on it for all you polar bears. Like mentioned previously, you'll have to take what I think is comfy with a grain of salt as I'm always cold:goodvibes... I'm definitely wearing a long sleeve Under Armor cold gear top (ok, ok, you can stop laughing at me now:rotfl2:) and plan on getting a "disposable" hoodie for that night for the start. :yay:
I am with you. I prefer the 80s and a bit humid during the day.:goodvibes

Same here on both accounts! Love the heat during the day (as long as I am not running in it). Perfect running temp for me is 60-65. I tried running temps far colder than that and it felt like it was tearing up my lungs. But if it is too warm, I have a difficult time also.

Just throwing this out there. This will be my 3rd W&D and the buses are always a little crazy. I believe the time change happens this weekend, which will mean that it will be completely dark well before the start of the race. In the past the sun was going down as we got to the start--before we got in the corrals.

Anyhow, I would recommend not waiting until the last minute to get a bus. Last year the lines at BW were crazy. This year I am at SSR and it is completely full--we tried to add a night and there is no room to be had.

Take along something to sit on and relax a bit at the start. Both years we saw folks napping before hand. It might not feel as crazy at the start this year without the relay, but I find this start/start area to be a bit more chaotic than the Princess. Especially if it is your first half you don't want the added stress of being stuck on a bus that is not moving because of traffic backup.:goodvibes

don't the buses start at 7 and you must be on one by 8? so that's only an hour to get everyone there, right?

I haven't looked at what they are saying for this year, but if 7:00 is when they start then I would be in line no later than 7:00. The traffic situation was such last year that the buses got near the start and then just stopped. It was very backed up and congested. We were on the first or second bus from BW and by the time we got on the bus the line went from the convention center back to the lobby and was 3 or 4 deep. I know a lot of people complained about it last year.

Transportation is one of those things that stresses me out, so I know I would much rather be relaxing at the start than stressing out in line or on a bus.:goodvibes

Oh geez. Another thing that I'm going to start worrying about.... The whole wwos part of the night is stressing me out as it is. We r staying at the boardwalk so I will try to get on the buses early but then ill sit and be so nervous for 3 hours at wwos.

Sometimes I wonder why I added this additional stressful thing to my life. (other than that I enjoy running and was running regularly anyway).

If we need to be a WWOS by 8, what time do they expect people to in their corral?

Walking around WWOS will be ok but I don't want to stand around in the corral with noting to do except wish I had gone to the bathroom (again)!

Someone mentioned the "H" word ... please say it ain't so (humidity!). Low 60's sound good to me, especially without the darn sun. I hope it's a clear night for stars and the moon.

Don't stress about it. Just get there early and enjoy the fun people watching.:goodvibes Everyone will be in a good mood and you should be able to chat with people from all over the place. We met another WISHER in our corral the first year at W&D and I am now friends with her on facebook. If you get in line early and get on one of the first buses it will be fine and you can look at it as a chance to meet lots of other runners!:goodvibes

So walking to the start is one thing DL 1/2 has going in its favor, but seriously: you'll be fine! Nothing to stress about, it's just the people who think it doesn't start til 10 so they don't need to be on a bus til 9:30 that will have a problem.

We'll all be prepared and ready to go well ahead of time.

I didn't run ToT, but since the parks are still in Halloween mode they wouldn't have the lights on. Since W&D coincides with the first weekend of the Very Merry Christmas party and Disney's transition to Christmas, the lights will (much more likely) be on...

The wine and dine had lights on in the past And was held the same (oct 1st) weekend as the tower of terror was this year. They really tried to have the villainous vibe tho at ToT. Probably why no lights.

yeah, a giant light up angel with "peace on earth" probably didn't mesh with the villains theme too well...

Just checked the forecast again, and it said 64! Oh, that would be PERFECT! I'm going to keep praying for mid-60's. :)
I hope the bus situation from Epcot to WWOS isn't a crazy mess. Is the traffic really that bad?

What about leaving a car in the parking lot at Epcot/finish line? We will have a rental car and I was thinking of driving to Epcot and taking a shuttle from there....will they be available??:confused3
