Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

The ToT folks did their WISH meet at 8:30 p.m. Saturday night at the Information Booth. At our start area it looks like there are two sides to the information booth -- one on the outside where other people as well as runners are allowed and another inside where only runners are allowed. I suggest that we meet on the inside so we don't get stuck in a bottleneck outside when it is time to head to the corrals.

I will be wearing my WISH shirt and I'm sure there are some other folks who will be doing the same so it won't be too hard to find us. :cool2:

Here is a picture of my outfit

Amy, love your shirt! :cool2:

I do have an iFitness belt that I really like. It holds everything I needed and had small water bottles you could attach. There is a discount coupon in our W&D "bag" for them. They are usually at the Expo and you can try them on. Unfortunately on long runs the belt, any belt, caused some runners tummy issues so now I rely on my sparkleskirt and it's voluminous pockets.

For those of you who have done this race before, do you know where the sweep points are usually? I'm thinking one around AK and maybe another before DHS. Are you safe once you make it into DHS or has anyone heard of anyone being swept on the Boardwalk part of the race?

Our race will be here before we know it! :yay:

This is a great question! As I don't think the hubby is going to be able to go the whole distance:sad:, we're pretty much planning on him looking for the bus but don't know where that will be. Anybody know??:confused3

Where did you get your WISH shirt? Do they have long sleeve, too? I want one. I won't be wearing it during the race, but I would love to wear it on other runs.

8:30 p.m. on the inside if the information booth sound good to me. Should we have a grace period before taking the group pic? What would be a good time to leave our room and head out? We're staying at a condo, driving to Epcot and then taking shuttle to WWOS. Was planning on dinner between 5-6.

The company who prints the shirts was getting ready to make and order so you might want to call and see if they have done it yet. the info is in the wish welcome sticky.

I think a grace period is a good idea as you never know how traffic is going to be.

How about meet there with picture at 8:45 - gives people time to get there/find it (as I get lost in new places easily) and then gives us time to get to our corrals/warm up. I'll be on my own so will be nice to have something to do.

Would love to meet up for a picture. I'll hide in the back since I'll be without a costume. I'm stressing over enough about underwear, there's no way I'd make it through in a costume!

Traveling from upstate NY.

I'll be starting with the Stormtroopers!

Oh my! I have so many snazzy comebacks about the underwear!! But at the huge risk of offending others with my whacked sense of humor, I shall refain (sigh)::yes::

Welcome to corral F! F as in "Ate too much Fettucine for dinner so come waddle along with us!":lmao::rotfl: (Oh I just kill myself!:lmao::rotfl2:::yes::)

8:45 it is! If you see a short, dumpy, patriotic princess bouncing off runners looking completely pathetic, that'll be me!:woohoo:

I meant meeting at 8:30 with picture at 8:45. Question - when/ where is the warm up stuff, that puts me in a good mood and would be fun to find others to do it with.

At the DL 1/2 they gave a little shout out for each corral. For example, A was "Awesome." I forget what we were (Courageous or something lame). We decided G was for "Good Enough!" :)

This sounds great! Meet at the runner's side of the information booth at around 8:30 p.m., picture at 8:45 p.m. and that way we will have time for those last pit stops and getting ourselves in our corrals early like they require. :thumbsup2 Look for the folks wearing WISH lime green!

I will post this on the WISH Facebook group. Someone else talked about another FB group but I'm not sure which one they were talking about -- maybe the RunDisney event?

If you would like to be added to the WISH Facebook group send me a PM.

Looking forward to seeing everyone soon! :goodvibes

Well, I went on a run last night to try out my Team Sparkle sleeves and I will NOT be wearing them during the Wine and Dine. Within the first mile, I felt too much rubbing under my arm. I had to take them off and tuck them in to my shorts. So, I think I'll wear them for pics, but then put them in a pocket in hubby's camelbak. I guess I'm too much of a minimalist. My hat's off to those that can wear them during a race! I honestly don't know how they do it. :)

I think a lot of the Team Sparkle stuff is notoriously bad quality. There are lots of better sleeves out there that you can race with.

I have sleeves I am testing out this afternoon. They are not Team Sparkle, but I am curious to see how they will work out for me since I wonder if they will just be too much on me. I have never used sleeves before so it will be a new experience.

Good to know! I haven't tried out any part of my costume yet and hopefully won't have any issues. Did you try any anti-chafing lotion? Perhaps that may help??

I don't have any of the chaffing lotion/sticks, and doubt I'll buy some since I just want to keep it simple. I hear it works great for some. My sleeves are silver and they are slightly textured. I may see if I can find some smooth white ones at a running store or online. Anybody have any brands they would recommend? I never knew how much I appreciated the smooth skin of my arms until last night.
By the way, it was about 62 degrees last night and it felt Heavenly! I hope it's in the 60's for W&D. Went for my first daytime run at 1 p.m. last week and it was so nice with the cooler weather. Although, I felt like a vampire in the daylight, since I'm so used to running at night. I'm looking forward to the next 6 months of cooler weather and daytime runs now. Well, more daytime runs after the Wine and Dine. :)

Oh I hadn't even thought of that! I have some Body Glide in my bathroom and need to remember to pack that just in case.

I got my sleeves from ebay and they have "Amaryllis" embroidered on the cuff...but I can't find any information about them online. If it doesn't work out, I only paid like $8 for the pair so I am not out a huge chunk of money. They came in several colors and are smooth. I am just not used to wearing anything on my arms while I run, so today's test will determine if I wind up wearing them during the race or only for pictures.

It looks like we finally have decent running weather here. The highs for the next 10 days are mostly in the 60s, with this weekend being in the 50s. I'd like it warmer just for every day enjoyment...but this is WONDERFUL for running!! I have such a difficult time getting through my runs when it is hot outside.

Okay, I just saw on another thread that the 5k isn't a timed race. Is that correct? My DH is going to be very unhappy if that's the case!

All the 5k's at Disney are unofficial. I believe there are clocks on the course but no chips.

Ironically, it's 80 degrees here in today! ugh! Nice for all those non-runners and kids who want to play outside but I am wanting the 60 degree weather back. I did have a really nice run last night though after the sun went down. Did my hilly route and found it easier than the last time I ran it. Must be getting stronger!

On the other hand, I'm hoping that Orlando starts cooling down just a shade as well. No need for 70 degree nights for our race weekend!
