1. How do you all train in the summer months?
Hello All! I am new to this thread. I did the Expedition Everest last year and I have a few questions about the Wine and Dine.
My Dh and I are debating doing the relay and the 5k. We were set on doing the relay. But now summer has HIT. We are in the 90s. Last month I was at 3 miles run/walk at 14 minutes. Now I am struggling to do 2 miles in 15! How will I ever get to 4.83? (Dh has the bigger portion.)

FireDancer - Thanks for the insight on the inclines. I have a route with some crazy hills and so I am hoping I will be OK. As I recall you were considering doing the Wine & Dine again this year - are you going to? I am foreseeing a huge group hug for all us Dis'ers at the start line, see...
Mermaid - I concur with Rizzo. The website states you can use the $10 gift card whenever you want. It is my understanding that each spectator ticket (as well as the participant who gets entry to the after party with their registration) receives a $10 gift card. I was also under the impression that us participants AND spectators get a beverage and food ticket on top of the $10 gift card, AND the participants get an additional beverage of their choice at the finish line to "get the party started". Is this information incorrect?

..........
I live in South Florida and it is already HOT. When you run the half, do you bring water with you or do you just grab water along the route? I am starting to get into 5-6 miles soon and am thinking I am going to have to start bringing water with me...
Thanks!
Muggy and warm? Oh yeah, it's Florida. I almost forgot.
I was wondering about inclines myself - not so much actual hills or obvious heights, but does anyone know if there are any steady inclines or declines during the half that around over, say, a 1.0 on the treadmill?
I feel you on the heat...I heard the phrase "flirting with the 100 degree mark" this morning on the news during the weather and immediately felt faint. This time of year, I'm already sweating through my top while I'm stretching BEFORE a run. I would agree with what another poster said, you kind of just have to suck it up and get out there and do it, but just be smart about it. Expect your pace to be affected, stay hydrated throughout the day as well as during your run, and do your best to arrange your schedule to where you can run during a "cooler" part of the day or at least on a shady route (although I totally understand not being able to do this...2 of my 3 weekly runs have to be in the hottest part of the day after work, and I have no way around that...but I make sure my long run on the weekend is at the crack of dawn!). Maybe throw in some walk breaks, or extra ones if you already do run/walk intervals...and just really be aware of how you're feeling. The heat and humididty can really zap you so play it safe and back off if you start to feel dizziness or nausea coming on.
I saw this quote posted on espnW's FB page a few weeks ago and printed and posted it at my desk at work to give me some motivation as I'm walking out the door to run this summer..."I'm not telling you it is going to be easy, I'm telling you it's going to be worth it."
OregonGirl - Thanks for the welcome! I am really excited about this. Im very hopeful that I will be able to make it. Congrats on how far you have already come. I look forward to getting to the point that you are at.
kaj1436 - Glad you signed up. My husband is not coming. He is staying home with the kids. I am doing the race with a friend of mine, but doubt that I will be able to keep her pace. You can always hang with us!
sunshine 269 - Welcome. I know how you feel. I am nervous too! Hopefully the Disney excitement will help to finish! That's what I'm hoping..
krisnchris - How are you training? I am curious because from your time, it seems like we are very similar. I am doing the Jeff Galloway but doing 2:1 intervals. It is my first too and am looking for anyone and everyone to talk too!
I also saw today that it changed on the event details. Instead of the drink tickets, runners now get one wine or beer at the finish line and then the $10 gift card for inside. Did someone else already post this?
Definitley in for a group hug and some last minute moral support before the race..I'm sure I'm going to need it. I keep invisioning myself alone at the start and freaking out! LOL Not really but I will be very nervous.Rugul8ter - 7.5 minutes a mile? Damn. I tried that on the treadmill the other day at the end of a 60 minute, 10 minute per mile pace and it was FAST!! I'm not sure I could ever get that fast and I'm not sure I want to. Do I get any slack cut if I mention that I am a 5'3" shorty? Let's find each other before the race and do a group hug!

ECO! Hi! Welcome! Where are you that its 90s?! In Oregon we are still getting rain and 60s. Everything is way wet and the grass is way high and its just a mess. I could use some sun right about now... To answer some of your questions, I am pretty sure a participant of any of the W&D events can utilize the discounted park tickets. I don't know about the dining plan for discounted room rates but I was going to call tomorrow myself and so can put more info on the boards afterwards.

I have to say that when I looked at the course that I was a little disappointed with long stretches on the highway. They keep you entertained during that, right? I don't know what I expected. I guess in my mind the parks were bigger!
On another note, it looks like I'm going to Disney three times in the year so I'm thinking about getting an annual pass. Does anyone know if that the annual pass discount is better then the race discount?
