Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

Hi Everyone!
I just went through and read the whole thread. This is my first HM, actually it's my first race. I am doing it to help lose the rest of my baby weight, and provide my family an excuse to go to WDW twice in one year :thumbsup2.
I was wondering what the WISH group is exactly and how to become a part of it. And if there is a group of slow runners, currently I am running a pace of 14 mins. But I am still training and hope to improve my time. Is there anyone else here that would like to keep me company during the race :cheer2:??

Thanks Bunches,
Amanda

I'm with you girl! I'm a slow runner too. Maybe we'll be in the same corral? What did you put for your estimated time when you registered for the race? My goal is to just finish and hopefully not have to stop to walk...I know I can do it under regular conditions but from what I've heard it is very hot and humid so that is something that I'm not used to yet. I'll be doing alot more running outside this summer to try and get accustomed to the heat.

I'm slow, too (I ran W&D in 2:20:28, which is now 10 minutes off my PR), and I had to walk most of mile 12. It was that gross.

I have been training on and off the past few weeks trying to let my knee heal up properly. Yesterday, I went for what was supposed to be my first long run in some time, been doing one to two miles few times a week, but wanted that long one. Well, I had three sub 8 minute miles, but by that time, the humidity and heat stil in the early night in florida got to me. I had to stop, could have continued after walking but had the urge for ice cream since i was in the downtown area of celebration, its where i run since i live there. So I stopped with a disappointing three miles, I just went too fast for being too hot and humid still, but it felt like I was going slow since my short runs have been near or below 6 minute miles. I just need to train to adjust to the elements and it will play a factor in this race, the other races im not as worried since they are all in the am. Plus I need to get back into eating to run since I got too used to having whatever i liked and having that before I run isn't very good. But for the race, i am training for and expecting it to be similar to yesterday, with low 80 and humid, if its better conditions, awesome, but planning for the worst. And with yesterday I have learned a lot, just don't push too hard and listen to your body, dont wanna pass out or have issues or cramps, and drink lots of water and have some salt to restore your sodium levels as you will sweat more in these conditions. I'm just planning for the bad conditions so I'm prepared if it comes to it. Keep up the training, the race will be here quicker than you know it. :thumbsup2

ColumbiaMommy - You won't be alone. Trust me!!! I will be back there with you! I hope to maintain a 13 - 14 minute mile....after a few more months. :)

Dan - 6 minute miles!? Holy cow!!

That's very cool, though. I just did three 9 minute miles on the treadmill yesterday (have previously been averaging 10 mpm) and I think I could have kept going except I have a previous knee injury that acts up sometimes and it was really starting to hurt.

Ya'll are starting to concern me about the heat, though. What can I expect in terms of a temp for the W&D half? And how about humidity?

Also, does anyone use the ifitness pouches? I think I might have asked this already but I am too lazy to look back on the thread. I am considering a two pouch, non race number holder version. Does anyone have any thoughts on this, especially versus the one pouch option?

ColumbiaMommy and rizzobob- I'll be right there with you. This will be my first 1/2 and my goal is to finish. If I can do it under 3 hours that would be great.

roomthreeseventeen- 2:20 is not slow in my book. Congrats!

You guys are great!! Thanks for the encouragement! I am so happy I came across this board. I am not sure what time I put in as my race time, I need to go back and check and let you know.
Is anyone else bringing their children on the trip. My husband and son (14 months now) will be with. When I made the reservation at the Boardwalk they told me I was the first runner to have a baby at that particular hotel.
I also talked to the agent and they told me that you could buy discounted tickets to the park up until late August.

So excited to be on this thread and apart of this group!! You guys are so motivating!!:cool1:

I put 3:00:00 for my time. And I am with you all the way, my goal is to finish. And of course get a couple pictures with some amazing Disney characters!

It's a little early to start fretting about weather. Most runners will be training through the summer in conditions worse than what will be experienced on race day. Granted, the weather is not the best for pushing for peak performance for most, but is well within a great running norm.

Almanac says the average hi is 88F and low of 69F. Last year the race started at 75F with a humidity of 76%. One of the neat things about running at night on this course is that ere are little micro pockets of cool - usually in areas that have shaded water in the day......

Awesome!! I put 3 hours too! This means that we will be all together. We will have to try and find a way to meet up before the start. We can try to keep together so we can motivate each other and hopefully have to some fun along the way too.
Speaking of pictures...who is bringing a camera? Do you need one to take pictures or are there photopass type opporutinities? I was thinking of using a belt to keep my camera in but was thinking it may be a hinderence since I have never ran with one before. Decisions, decisions....
I am travelling with my husband and 2 small children. They will not be at the race with me or at the finish line..I'm doing this one solo so I'm definitely looking for some company. We are staying at Pop Century and have rented a car so if there is anyone not staying at a host resort and is needing a ride to the event I have plenty of room!
I too am glad I have found the thread...I didn't realize that there were plenty of people out there with such similar circumstances as me that I can relate to. It's so great! Our ongoing correspondence through this thread is definitely keeping me motivated....and it will be nice to finally meet the people whom I've been talking on here.

I have the 2 pouch version and it works great. You can hardly tell you have it on. It stretches, so you can fit a lot in it.

That is reassuring about the heat. I was starting to worry reading everyone's comments on the horrible weather.

The character assistants will take photos for you and there are some ASI photographers on the course, but no photopass ones. I carry my camera when I run, so I can take photos. I run with it at home, too. You never know when you will come across a timid fawn or a gorgeous sunset on a pond. However I am getting an iPhone 4 later this month, so that may replace my camera.

parrotbay51 - Does the pouch ride up or go up and down when you run? Is it something you need to get used to? I just wonder if it would bounce on me when I was running, but I do like to carry my ID and stuff when I run...

columbiamommy - I won't lie, it's hot in Florida. But it is really the humidity that gets a lot of people, if they aren't used to it. Just make sure you drink. Orlando is hard because sometimes it is cooler and sometimes it isn't. The last two years (I think), it has still been pretty warm in October.

kaj1436 - That would be great if we could all get together and help each other out along the way! Looking forward to it.

roomthreeseventeen - I think what you did was phenomenal! 2:20 is WOW to me!

Dan- how long have you been running to get to 6 minute miles????:thumbsup2

I need to start carrying my camera. Today I had to run through a film set on the block next to us to get home. They were filming the movie Dictator with Sacha Baron Cohen. I wish I could have had my camera then.

I am so happy that there are other people that are the same speed. It will be great to meet up and help/encourage eachother along!!

ColumbiaMommy - I ran in Central Park today. If we can run in today's weather, then we shouldn't have a problem in Florida! It was HOT today! Tomorrow is supposed to be 97 and I'm staying in the AC.

Just want to add that starting with the Marathon in January, ASI photographers have started to be with characters, also. Not all, but they were there. I would still plan on bringing your own camera just in case they are not with characters for the W&D.
