Is 1 bedroom at Aulani worth it?

My son and I went for a week last December. I originally booked a studio, but changed to a 1BR, and I am so glad I did. I rented a car and we stopped at Don Don Donki on the way to the resort to stock up on groceries. They have traditional groceries of course, but also have Japanese and local options, too. Having a full kitchen really made a difference, even with just the two of us. And the laundry was a must. We were able to pack lighter, run a load when needed, and still came home with all clean clothes.

I do not think 11 days is too long. When we were leaving on day 7, I was wishing for a few more, just to hang out at the lazy river, lol! Seriously, if we had a couple more days we would have put them to good use exploring the island some more.

At WDW we almost always do studios, but Aulani I am a die hard 1BR fan now!
.
I think the trips away from California should definetely be one bedrooms. I LOVED christmas in wdw and I think a huge part of that was staying in the one bedrooms. We ended up in a studio for the last leg of our trip and it just wasnt the same at all. I found myself wanting to go home. Ok now I sound like a spoiled brat, but I am used to this one bedroom life now lol!

Sorry getting off your topic but also during your travels if you can stop & have a coconut picked fresh off the tree, whacked with a machete, straw into it, then hit the road again is pretty cool too.
I want to do everything!! I need to find the best spot for those macadamia nut pancakes too!!!! I am beyond excited, I would be even mode excited with a one beddy lol!

This YouTube is a brief tour of a lockoff, so you can see the Studio and 1 BR side by side. Makes the bathroom situation more clear than I can do with words.

Also - I say if you have a car to explore and you want to spend the points, 11 days at Aulani sounds like heaven to me!
Thank you so much for this! I am convinced, its only four days with them after all, that is nothing! Now let's see if the availability agrees with me 🤣🤣

Interesting to see this. We've been 6 times, so you'd think I'd know the differences, but we've always stayed in dedicated 2-bedrooms. Really interesting to see the differences in the dedicated vs. lock-off. In the dedicated 2 bedroom, there are the following differences:

  • Additional 1/2 bath off of hallway entry
  • Twin sleeper chair in living room
  • Drawers in cabinet under TV instead of pull down bed
  • Second bedroom has 2 Queen beds instead of 1 Queen Bed/1 Sofa pullout
Also, in regards to Costco, make sure to get the 2.5 lb. bags of Royal Kona Vanilla Macadamia Nut coffee for the week. You are welcome!
The dedicated sounds better! My issue with the two bedroom for all of us is that the familia is only coming 4 days then we will have a waste of points in two bedrooms for just the two of us!

Thank you for the coffee tip we love our coffee in the morning! Is there a lot of caffeine, we are both caffeine sensitive. Any other Costco or grocery recommendations or restaurants, we love things that are unique to Hawaii!

Look to save points and stay in studio for 1st part then if its available switch to 1bdrm, or 2bdrm. We did 10 nights 2 years ago and for us it wasnt long enough. If your just staying at the resort then why even fly to Hawaii? Grab a car and explore, lots to do. Go check out the Aulani thread loads of suggestions. Use the hotel as a base, over 10 days we had 3 down days at the resort, spent the rest all around the island, its wonderful and still did not even get close to doing everything. Cross fingers for high EWA tower and save money on watch the luau from balcony with your own food and drinks.
Enjoy
I am the type that would be happy just going to different beaches on different days so I know 11 days is fine, theres always something I can get myself into 🤣🤣 A member services rep told me to request the ground floor so I can jist walk to the pool, is this a good thing??? I would think a high floor view would be better!

HIgh floor better chance at seeing the luau and having partial view of the ocean. For your pancakes, Eggs and Things across the street are great.

I'll second Ko Hana rum factory! We do it every visit and actually joined their rum club.
I need to get here. We went to where they make Kula Toasted Coconut Rum (Yum!) and Ocean Vodka in Maui, but I love me some Ko Hana as well!
