I have after long runs; but I always wake up really sore so I try to find something else to do instead. Today I have a work meeting after my run.

I've been reading trip reports to get excited (not that I need help) and to get ideas of things to do on my short trip. The girl I work with now thinks I'm obssesed with Disney....

You are so clever!! I never heard of a trip report before. What a great motivator!! Thanks!

I can't wait to get there. I keep looking at the calendar and telling my family how many days left until the trip to Disney. I do a little jig.

I ran a slow 8 yesterday. I had arthritis nagging my joints, but the average was 13 minute miles. At least I finished and am not sore today!! That's a victory!!

Yeah man! I hear you about waking up from a nap having sore legs! That has happened to me so many times. I do stretch often, especially my calves.

Now that I think of it, I didn't nap but 5 minutes yesterday. Too much was going on and everyone needed me for something. What a day! The big snow storm was exciting to watch too. Some lost power, but mine stayed on only after shutting off and coming back on five times.

No school for us today!! My kids are so happy!

Hi Everyone,

I am going to the half as a cheerleader for a long time friend, who is not on these boards. I'm wondering if there are any other spectators on this list who might want to meet up and cheer together? Also, does anyone have an opinion on the ChEAR Squad Disney provides?

Thanks!
Mary

Here are my thoughts on the Chear squad packages. If you as a spectator are looking for a bleacher seat at the finish and a few porta potties reserved for a few folks then the package is for you. Throw in a little schwag such as seat cushion and clappers and its a deal. Honestly though, if you want to see your friend at TTC, MK and or the Poly then save you $$ and coordinate spots with your friend.

Hello All. I've been lurking and trying to read thought this awesome thread and decided to finally post. I'm 30 years old and have been running for years. I registered for the Princess in September- the whole trip is paid for and flight is booked. But I'm starting to freak out!:scared1: I ran in a 10K race on Thanksgiving day and finished with a PR time of 50:31! The bad news- I jacked up my right foot. My heel feels like a big bruise. I wasn't able to run at all for 3 weeks. It was feeling a little better and I ran a 5K race yesterday with my daughter. Heel pain is back. I've never had this problem before. Prior to the Thanksgiving race I was running ~30 miles a week with one long run of 12-13miles each week. What do I do if I can't train for this? Has anyone ever had this problem?

If this continues for a week or so I would get to a doctor. Sounds a lot like Plantar Fasciitis (PF). This can be a very long and slow recovery injury. For relief in the interim, roll your heal and mid foot over a can of frozen orange juice. Also, in the morning, have a set of stiff soled slippers at the edge of the bed. When you get up in the morning, the slippers are the first thing you do. The thought is that the body is working to heal the tendon and if you stress the tendon the first thing in the morning you are undoing all the healing that occurred overnight.

I would get to a doctor for an x-ray just to assure yourself that it is a soft tissue injury and not a hard tissue injury.

AND, I've been training for 2 months for the Princess Half and totally following this thread, so I feel like I "know" all of you, in a kindof creepy "I know you but you don't know me" way, so I figure I better come out and say hello! princess:
Welcome!! I feel that way too sometimes!:rotfl:

Tonight I'm going to try running on the treadmill...I HATE treadmills, but it's just too cold and too windy and too dark by the time I get home to run outside.. (I think I could deal with the cold, but windy and dark I can't do)
Luckly my parents have a treadmill (in my old bedroom!) so I can use that whenever I want.

Yesterday I got my first piece of Mickey Mail!! It was a bill, but still exciting...

Stay warm everyone

I did this for my DH last year, and while he was thankful, he told me that it really isn't worth the $. While there were "reserved" viewing areas, he told me that there really wasn't much difference in those areas and the public areas. Like the PP mentioned, basically you're paying for the goodies that come with the package. He told me that he wouldn't do it again.

I did 7 miles yesterday- and pushing through the first 2 was hard because my legs felt like LEAD. And then the last one was not making my day either- my feet hurt! lol Mentally it was tough to just keep going. So glad that at least some of the Disney Run will offer some distraction to help me just keep moving!

Glad I got it done and not feeling it today either- woot!

Well running this half is becoming such an ordeal and it has nothing to do with actually running it ;)

Trying to book the flight, coordinate hubby cave scuba diving before the race, and where to stay. Can everyone not staying on site let me know where they are staying? We have done Disney resorts before.....we love POLY but honestly I don;t want to spend that money since hubby is not there for most of the trip (we are going for 8 days and hubby is only with DD and I for 3 of those days....basically that weekend of the races). We did a moderate once and it looks like most of them are now sold out for that week and I don't do Value resorts. So I thought I'd get a hotel just outside of Disney since DD and I will have a car rental and be spending time shopping the outlets as well :lovestruc So yes this is stressing me out so any help would be great! Thanks!

Thanks so much for your feedback. It sounds like I will be better off doing it on my own, rather than pay for the Chear Squad.

Just checking in.....we went to visit my in laws in California last week, which included a fantastic day at Disneyland so I have been off the computer.

Last Tues I ran 7 miles and while the run went well, I think I was totally dehydrated later that day....bad heachache and felt sick. That was a wakeup call for me on getting my sugars and sodium in! I was a bum on our trip the rest of the week, though I did 30 minute treadmill runs yesterday and today. I am a little nervous about doing 8 miles this weekend, but will focus on my hydration to avoid getting sick again.

I will get caught up on reading what i missed while I was out in the sunny west coast...it was FRIGID here....glad its going to warm up to normal cold temps.

An update on my foot issues. Per the recommendation of my dr., I bought some silicone metatarsal pads. I can't wait to get them here to see if they help out.

I ran 7 on Sunday, and it was HARD! By the last 1.5 miles I was anxiously counting down the 10ths of a mile. I don't feel like I had eaten well or that I was properly hydrated. I'm going to work on that this week to see if it makes a difference. I thought to myself... "7 is only just over half way!" I'm kind of dreading the 8 mile run I need to do this weekend.

Hope everyone is feeling good and having good training runs!:cheer2: Only 74 days until race day!

Your Welcome Kensgirl. :) I think it is so interesting, glad you do too.

Last Sunday, I ran 8 on the treadmill. I had lots of entertainment going on around me. I had arthritis pains, which made it hard. I finished it though.

Yesterday, I ran 3.5 on the treadmill while my teenage neighbor told me about what's been going on with her. It went by so fast with no aches and pains. I didn't even need my inhaler. So, it was a good day!!

I have no hotel reservations yet.

I really love reading about everyone's running experiences. It helps keep me going and it's nice to know we are all working towards the same goal! :)

We are staying at the Swan again this year (we were there for the Princess in '10 as well). We'd only stayed on site before (Beach Club & Wilderness Lodge) but did the Swan upon recommendation of friends. Our first trip we had the teacher rate as my friend who we went with is a teacher and this time the AAA discount is pretty good (under $200/nt) I think. We aren't renting a car but even with paying for a car service and cabs to the Expo & race start, we are savig TONS of money in comparison to a deluxe. You would have to pay to park your rental car but, believe me, you'll be so psyched to have the car at Epcot at 4:30 in the morning to keep you warm! BTW, the Swan/Dolphin are beautiful; the boat to HS is so easy and we walked to Epcot several times past the Boardwalk area. The rooms are bigger than the Disney Deluxe rooms and you still get EMH and Disney transportation. I think I'll have trouble convincing my hubby to every pay twice as much to stay at the Beach Club again. Free Dining & Stormalong Bay could convince us otherwise if we go back in the summer.;)

Hope that helps a bit. If you go a bit further off-site, you can, of course, find amazing inexpensive beautiful places to stay.

hi everyone! i haven't posted in a while - i took my son to disney last week.

BIG MISTAKE!!

if i ever mention taking a toddler to disney by myself again, smack me! and to top it off i got violently ill on the way home and i'm only starting to feel better now.

i haven't run in like two weeks. i'm really behind on my training and i've GOT to get going. my goodness it's getting down to the wire now! and it stinks because it is FREEZING OUT!!

anyway, i'm going to go back and catch up on all the posts from the last week.

i'm in desperate need for some motivation here!

Sorry your trip did not go well. We took DD when she was 18 months and it went great. (But I was not by myself with her)

Is this weather bothering anyone else? It's driving me crazy. Who wants to go out in 14 degrees to run? It's never this cold this early around here. Ugh! I almost did my 7 miles on a treadmill last weekend, but I toughed it out and did okay.

I'm up to a blistering speed of 12.5 miles. But that includes walk breaks, so I'm feeling okay with that. My original goal was to finish and not get swept. Now my goal is to be done in under 3 hours. For someone who is a totally novice runner, I am quite happy with that goal.

We are on such a weather rollercoaster here...sunday and monday we had freeze warnings and today the high is almost 80 degrees!!! And it seems like it's been playing that game for the last several weeks. It makes packing my running bag difficult in the morning to run after work...lately I've just been packing both a warm weather outfit and a cold weather outfit just in case because I can't keep up...but I am SO ready for it to just get cold and stay cold...although our cold isn't quite as cold as many other's.

Sorry to hear you were ill. I got sick too when my son was 4 yrs. old at Disney World. I don't even remember the trip home. lol

Here's a quote I saw:

I will not let anyone steal my joy.
I will overcome, overpower and overturn all obstacles.
I will not let anyone or anything impact my positive attitude.
I will look further than my vision, because I will walk by faith not by sight.
I will dream big dreams.
I will move with a sense of urgency and stay committed to my goals.
I will check and recheck, balance and counter balance, measure and be measured to the highest standard of excellence.
I will not give up, give in or give place to the fear of defeat.
I will never forget who I am why I am
here, and where I am going.
I realize this day, this moment, is truly a blessing.
I choose to have a positive attitude.
I will remember "MY ATTITUDE - IS EVERYTHING.

I hear ya Summer. I am in Austin. Holy cow... my head is going to explode with the sinus pressure I get from the changes in the weather! It was warm, but uber windy here, so I chose treadmill for my run today. I tell ya- I am such a fair weather "athlete"... if it's too cold, I complain. Too windy, I complain. Too hot... I complain, but not as much. LOL I prefer the warm over anything else, yes, even to RUN in! Praying for the warmest Feb 27 on record for Orlando yall. I would love to start the run in the low 50s, end in the low 60s. then have the day warm up to low 70s for spending it in the parks. Would be perfecto to me!

So this question may have already been answered, but 238 pages is a lot to go through ;)

So it says you can register as a "Team." What does that mean...each person runs half of the race? You tag in the middle? You run together? :confused3 Maybe I am over-thinking it!

I called a few weeks ago to ask this same question but would love to hear what others have to say. I was told it puts you in another category for awards (I'm not concerned by this, as awards for races don't pertain to me.) You both run the whole thing. It is not a relay. I suppose you are to run together. You pick a Team Name. The guy on the phone says it gives the race a different "feel"... I did register as a "Team" with my co-worker/friend I am running with. When we started to register, though, we didn't know we had to pick a Team Name (I'm assuming for the bibs), so we didn't have time to be very creative!
