You seem angry. I’m just talking..I get some of the reasons , kind of. It’s not that I don’t agree..I just like to hear everyone’s take on it.

Not angry it’s just slightly frustrating when somebody asks for advice, and then rebuts everything that everybody says. But I’m not angry, I have gotten angry on the boards before, but this is definitely not one of those situations.

In the end, the only person that knows what’s right for you is you.

IMO if you care that much about the restricted resort to be able to stay there, then you should just buy there instead of trying to 7 month it.

Despite the fact that this is exactly what I did, I am not sure I agree with it in general.

There are two reasons to want unrestricted points. One is: I really want to stay at Restricted Resort X, but not only at Restricted Resort X. And, if that's the reason, I think @intamin is 100% correct.

But, there is another reason, namely: I never want to have to be told "you can't stay there" when it comes to booking a future vacation. That's not a huge deal right now---after all, there are only three places for which that is true, one of them is in Anaheim, the second is a niche product, and the third is the red-headed stepchild. But, if you are imagining holding this for 20+ years, it will only get more important with time.

If someone is more of a Reason Two person, then this Saratoga sale is not a terrible idea. The price is right. The dues are not outrageous. The expiration is more than 25 years out. And, the points are good everywhere, no apologies necessary. It's especially not a bad idea if you'd like to book Not Studios, at which point the seven-month thing is a little bit less of an issue.

And it really could be! It all depends on what someone is trying to do.

I'm probably one of the few people who don't believe in true SAP. Personally I feel like I'd either rather own more points at the resort I love to potentially upgrade room categories for when extended family comes when needed for less banking and borrowing at 11 months or get points at a different resort to diversify and get another useful home resort. Of course this is just my personal philosophy. Also as much as we all love more points, more points does mean more dues. Knowing that >70% of the cost of my points over their lifetime is going to come from dues and that the dues are roughly similar between these resorts, the upfront 50 dollars per point savings wouldn't be enough to sway me. It'd at least have to be down to where that OKW firesale was for me to be tempted. And like was said above, if the purpose is purely for points, I should probably be looking more at resale.

In fact, our preference is to try to stay at a different properties each trip as we go because then each vacation doesn't seem exactly like the last one. We've stayed at every DVC property (except VDH) and find that there is something to like about all of the DVC properties and that they each have their own charm. That said, we have stayed at CFW more recently, so there is that.

That said, I just think that it depends on what someone's marginal utility is in their point use. We all value different things, and that's OK. It will be different from one person to the next and there is no "right" or wrong".

Sorry to hear about his health problems.

Curious to hear if the contract was still in the family and if so if he could do a transfer to you. He sure got his money worth even if booking SSR I would say.

It's in his family and I would never ask them for it since my aunt is still in the family but also I really was just grateful for the stay. Given where his health was I think he was just trying to burn the points. I often wonder what trajectory my life would've taken if he hadnt gifted us that stay. Would we have fallen in love with WDW as much as we did staying in the little mermaid rooms at Art of Animation (probably not LOL that walk to the skyliner is LONG), would we have looked into DVC.. would we have moved here, would we have gotten married here?. Unfortunately he passed away about a year ago now but I'm grateful like I said for what he started for us.

He also managed to do it properly at the end of his life, he booked a grand villa at VDH and had dinner at 21 Royal at Disneyland on his last birthday. I'm glad he's in a better place now though.

I thought is was just for Aulani but I guess it was for all active resorts. It was an additional $1000 off if you buy while at the resort. . Unsure if it’s continued into this incentive cycle. I think some disboardersa are there this month and maybe can confirm for us.

Damn, I did two in person tours in January and this never came up.

I almost even asked as a joke if there were any in person incentives! But thought it was too dad-jokey. "No, Dafoo, don't say that"

You did two tours at Aulani and they didn't tell you about the promotion of buying while on site there? Wow, that's a more laid-back approach I guess, even for Aulani.
