Despite the fact that this is exactly what I did, I am not sure I agree with it in general.
There are two reasons to want unrestricted points. One is: I really want to stay at Restricted Resort X, but not
only at Restricted Resort X. And, if that's the reason, I think
@intamin is 100% correct.
But, there is another reason, namely: I never want to have to be told "you can't stay there" when it comes to booking a future vacation. That's not a huge deal right now---after all, there are only three places for which that is true, one of them is in Anaheim, the second is a niche product, and the third is the red-headed stepchild. But, if you are imagining holding this for 20+ years, it will only get more important with time.
If someone is more of a Reason Two person
, then this Saratoga sale is not a terrible idea. The price is right. The dues are not outrageous. The expiration is more than 25 years out. And, the points are good everywhere, no apologies necessary. It's
especially not a bad idea if you'd like to book Not Studios, at which point the seven-month thing is a little bit less of an issue.
