October 2015 Fort Wilderness Meet and Greet Thread

What day are you guys arriving?

I will be pulling in on Oct. 9, hopefully around 8 a.m. Everyone is getting excited. We are down to leaving in 43 days and 45 till check in. We reserved a site in one of the Full hook up area.

Serenity,
I have been thinking about this, and with so many of us there during October I wonder if we might be better off to do one thread for all of us to report on instead of potentially there being 10 or more threads to keep up with. We can use it and those watching from home won't be having to look at multiple threads to keep up.

What do you guys think?

We have 9 days and 7 days of park tickets, but no set schedule. We have 1 day of down time but can flex most evenings around except the 13th we have MNSSHP tickets.

Now, Bamaed and SouthAlabama5er will tell you, we have no problem hosting a get together/eating. My wife has offered to make taco soup (not to be missed). Now, it might work out that all we get to do is shake a hand and say hello but that is fine as well.

So what do you guys (all the October visitors) think?

I am up for meeting other members from the board! :chat: We do not do any scheduling when we go on vacation. I will print out the park schedules before leaving home and then decide which park we want to do the next day over dinner. I like to go for a early morning and late night walk, ( looping ) to start/end the day, so meeting others at there site wouldn't be a problem.

Maybe we could do a get together one night down at the beach before the water parade and fireworks.
My schedule is wide open so anything is possible.

Vince

Well I think one big thread would be great. We did that back in March 2014 on our open thread. Someone has to start it, of course, but it was great because everyone contributed when they had something (and conversely didn't feel like they had to post something everyday).

Sitting at home as I will be, I can see that thread "handed off" to new DISsers as people come and go - it could take on a life of its own. It relieves people of having to do their own Trip Report if they don't want to and me in my living room gets current photos, updates, and different points of view.

Just somebody kick it off in October, declare it an OPEN Trip Report (anyone can post their trip stuff into it), and turn it loose.

Bama Ed

PS - here was our March 2014 Open Trip Report - http://www.disboards.com/threads/an-open-live-trip-report-the-last-week-of-march-2014.3252856/

PPS- we did an Open Pre-Trip report which was sort of like this Meet N' Greet Thread. http://www.disboards.com/threads/an...the-fort-the-last-week-of-march-2014.3245399/ However, I like the current approach you folks have used because there's more lead time.

I love the idea of an open "October trip report" thread! Does anyone have any suggestions on what the title should be? Something like "October trip report from the Fort- all are welcome!" We are arriving September 29th, and I'd be more than happy to start the official report if we are the first of our group to arrive :) I had so much fun doing our trip report 2 Christmas's ago, and would LOVE to do it again- especially with everyone else contributing too! And if someone else wants to get things rolling that's great too! We just all need to know what our post is titled, so we can contribute :)

I wish there was an easy way to see everyone's dates, without having to go back thru all the pages of this thread, and see how many of us there actually are!

We've got the 10 day ticket with WPF added, so technically a 20 day ticket, but I know we'll have some free times in there. I love the idea of a supper get together at someone's site- the taco soup sounds like something we all should try :) And I'd be happy to contribute something towards the meal! I also love the idea of maybe everyone meeting down at the beach- or maybe even on the porch of the tavern and getting a "rocking chair" picture together to post on our trip report! I know one of the things that is the most special to me about our entire Disney trip is the chance to sit on the beach and watch the fireworks and the water parade- I'm sure we'll be down there many times over our 2 weeks. :)

I don't know. I kind of thought this thread was "That" thread. While it's a "Meet and Greet" I think it still holds to the theme/idea. Sadly I won't be there in October 2015 (or in 2015 at all) but I have plans to be there in 2016. Currently scheduled for June but subject to change with the DW's mood. :)

Hi Peg! I think the reason of starting another thread is just to make the actual "trip report" easier for everyone to find. This thread has been so much fun, but it's more of a "pre-trip" type thing- mainly for those of us going over October, although I'm sure others have fun reading it too :)

Ok, just make sure you post in this thread what the other thread is so I can read up on that. :) Love reading about other peoples trips adventures. I haven't done a "Trip Report" yet, because, quite frankly, I haven't been to WDW since I found the DISboards. :( Me thinks me will do one for the next trip though. Sadly it's still a ways away!

I love the open trip report idea! The march 2014 open trip report was what enticed me to camp at the fort :)

Honestly, that's really nice to know, lbmiller77. That means it was worth the effort.

If you would like, I can change this thread title to "October M&G and open trip thread" However, I might not be able to make dinner as my wife has everything planned to a schedule. She will wait until midnight for FPs and ADRs so we can have certain experiences. It's her thing. I pretty much have Saturday Night October 10th in the schedule. Everything else is scheduled Dinners, Lunches and Breakfasts.
She is now trying to get me to take another day off from work to get down there earlier but I don't know. MY employer was pretty stretched with my 1.5 week request. One boss wanted me to take only a 1 week time.

Sirenia- I think we'd be better off starting a new thread once we actually start posting a real trip report. Otherwise I'm afraid by the time October rolls around there will be so many pages of all our "pre-trip" planning, and how we all want to get together- it might be hard for everyone to get through it and find the actual trip report. But that's just my thoughts- anyone else?
ps. your wife sounds a little bit like me :) I LOVE planning. But most of our evenings we've kept free other than a couple suppers- one at Whispering Canyon and one at Trail's End....

I like the 2 thread idea. This thread can continue to me "meeting," planning, and general discussion as more people come along. Then at the beginning of the month everyone can begin posting both live and after-the-fact reports in a separate thread.

Yeah my in laws are coming this time. So we have our places we want to go plus we are trying a couple of new places. I basically give the DW a block of time and she builds it. Right now, the first Saturday we are there if unplanned at night cause my in laws will probably be tired so it will be an early park day. Since we only go once or every other year, we want to get as much in in the time frame as possible. This time is a blue moon in which we will have gone twice in 12 months. (Nov 2014 and Oct 15) Next year we might not be able to go at all. All I know there is a couple of Trails End ressies.

As for the 2nd thread, sure that's fine. Anyone can start it. I just offered to change the title on this thread if needed. Most TR are individual threads being posted by the individuals themselves. Nothing in a group setting. Cool either way.

If I get a thread posted now and title it "October trip reports from the Fort- everyone welcome!" I wonder if then we could keep track better of everyones dates, and also where they are (cabins or which campsites). Then we'd all be able to find that thread and start posting our actual trip reports once we arrive. Yay or Nay from all of you October fort campers?

I'd say wait closer to October before kicking it off. This thread is already getting things going as far as everybody's arrival dates, otherwise we would be double posting information.

Serenitygr, I'm trying in vain to find my "Cotton, MN" t-shirt from all those years ago to wear for you but I cannot find where I put the thing.

In about 12 days I will kick off my usual 30 days out pre-trip report. I had already discussed with Snowmedic about sharing it since he and I have matching dates, then I got to thinking that heck, might as well just make it an open pre-trip report for everybody coming in October so we can all share. Then, as we arrive we can transition off of the pre-trip report to the live trip report as each of us gets there.

Another thing, I am looking forward to some September trip reports as well so let's not forget about those coming in during that month who might be giving us all a heads up to what is going on.

The real hoot would be all three of us in the same loop. I know my DW and I were talking loop requests but I don't think we got far with it though. The 800s were being kicked around as a possible since we liked the loop. I will have to check. Personally, I request the hot tub by the pool once I pull in and set up. LOL Seriously, I wonder how hard it would be to stick all 3 of us in one loop.

PS. My wife is still trying to get me to get an extra day off for the trip down.

LOL That would be awesome if all 3 of you were in the same loop! I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for 1400 (Big Bear) - when we stayed there over Christmas, that site made my trip magic. We could sit outside at night and hear the sing along- practically see the movie- and the kids could easily just hop over to the movie or the pool and back, without us worrying about them. Then, of course, add in the magic of my older brother spending time there with us- there's just so many memories for us there. It's what made us decide to go back, but this time rent a camper.... For us, with 4 young kids who love to swim, it's just perfect :)

Tiggerdad- I hope you find that shirt! I actually just sold a bunny to someone in Cotton a few weeks ago LOL Makes me think of you each time!

When you do your pre trip report, are you thinking that's where we should also do our trip reports once we arrive? Or do you think we should have an additional post for actual trip reports? I think that would be a good idea, so it's easier for everyone to join into each post at the correct time. I didn't do a pre trip- that might be fun, but I'm not sure what you post in that. We are 30 days out from leaving, so I'm sure the next 30 days will go quickly, yet not quickly enough! :)

Also- on the thread where we do our actual trip reports- whoever does the first post could do like I've seen on other threads- I think Bama Ed did this too: Keep editing the first post to add everyones dates, and then eventually their actual site/cabin numbers. That's the part I thought might be nice to have now, because as of now everyones dates are just kind of scattered throughout the post- it would be nice to have them all in one list, and then edit them as people arrive and get their actual sites... Any thoughts on that?

Serenitygr,
I typically post pre trip right up until I actually arrive at the Fort, then start a live trip report. I usually kick it off about 30 days out. I post about the things I'm doing to get ready. These include packing, washing camper and truck, servicing, getting decorations ready, etc. Last year I posted a lot on my work on my Mickey Lamp which I am intending to do some modifications on this year, so I'll post about that as well. Several people have commented reminders for me to not forget things and it has helped a lot. For instance, in 2012 I posted a pic of the camper and truck in the driveway getting ready to pull out. Someone was kind enough to remind me in a post to let the steps up before I left...
