We have a very old cat. I had been thinking that when she passes, I might take a break from being a pet owners for a little while.

However, today, we've been visited all day by the most LOVING BEAUTIFUL cat we've ever met. She's a stray that's been in the neighborhood for 5 days and she made her way to our house today. She's an ocicat I'm sure. Maybe not pedigree, but she's still ocicat in everything about her & from what I've read online. Build, loving, friendly, personality.

A neighbor is going to keep her if can't find owner but taking to vet tomorrow for checkup anyway. I would have in a heartbeat if we didn't still have our cat who doesn't get along with others too well in her old age.

I'm in love!

I got an Ocicat when she was about eight months old. She was the sweetest cat, although a bit of a klutz. While we had her she was primarily Judy's cat. A few months after Judy died I thought I was going to lose Sheeba, but she lasted another four years and was about 18½ when she died. Her ashes are now in Judy's grave.

I have no idea what an Ocicat is (I'll have to google it) but strays make the best pets. We've had two cats and one dog come up in the last 6 months and we are keeping all of them. Of course with 3 kids, how can we not keep an animal hanging around. The two stray cats are very good with my very hyper DS8. We too have an 18yo cat and keep wondering how long she'll hold in there. She was not ours either but belongs to my neice but adopted us several years ago and won't stay home. So we take care of her too.

I'll agree that strays make the best pets! The two that live with me were both picked up straight off the street. My dad found Eowyn when he was walking our dog. She let him carry her half a mile home (with an excited dachshund jumping at her the entire time) then let him drape her around his neck and tell her brought road kill home for supper. Makya came to me when I was having ice cream with my roommate. We were on the patio of the ice cream place and he jumped on my lap and started purring. Both live with me now and are two of the most loving cats you can imagine.

Salem adopted my parents, and he is the same way. He is very affectionate. Have you tried seeing how your odler one responds to her? You might be surprised. Sometimes once they get over the initial shock a new animal can bring new life and actually extend their lifespan.

I've googled and found pics of ocicats and my cat REALLY looks like one.. I'm not sure if she is we got her from someone on freecycle no lecture needed she came from a good home (her mom was picked up as a pregnant stray). I will say she is VERY loving.. very very loving almost TOO loving at times. There are times I need to lock her away because of it. Usually at babies nap time. She likes to meow.. Loudly and sit on my lap while the baby is also on my lap falling asleep. She is like a puppy, she follows me everywhere.. up the stairs, down the stairs, in the bathroom, she sits at my feet while I'm cooking. She is worse than the kids! I'm always tripping on her! I also have one of her sisters who is a polydactyl cat.. they look nothing alike.

You know, they say cats pick their owners. ;)

Is there any way you can just keep the two cats separated in different rooms or different parts of the house? It would be such a shame to let go of a kitty you fell in love with.

The Ocicat is a recognized breed but ancestry is Siamese, Abyssinian, and American Shorthair. Their spots and face make them look like an Ocelot, but they do not have any wild cat background. They make wonderful pets. Occasionally (like Sheeba was on one side) their spots will run into stripes which removes them from the category of show cats.

And because of their Siamese background they are very talkative.

I have a Bengal and they look a lot like the ocicat. They are loving as well. Actually, my American long hair, Siamese and tabbies are also loving, LOL.

I would love to, but my cat smelled the stray on my hands & shirt. She had a fit. My cat is special needs at this age. Stress immediately went up & she was panicking trying to find her way out of the situation. Given her current condition, it wasn't fun to watch. I had to wash my hands, change my shirt & spend some time calming her down. I think it would kill her. Honestly.

It appears the neighbor 3 units over will be keeping her. She named her & has a vet appointment for a checkup today before she lets her into her house. I learned she had set up a little shelter for her on her deck with food & water for the past 5 days. I guess the cat just really preferred our deck & my company all day yesterday.

I had to go over to the neighbor & let her know she was here so she would be able to take her to the vet. She laughed & thought perhaps the cat had found a better offer & had left. (She may have been right. ;) ) I told her when my cat passes, if its not working out in her house (dog & child both with special needs) I would take the cat in a heartbeat!!!

I'm seriously considering trying to find one to rescue once my cat has passed. I've been watching videos on youtube & reading. And here I thought I might be pet-free for the first time in my life after mine is gone. LOL Her condition has drained a lot out of me but it looks like I still have room for loving 1 more. And its sure nice to receive it back too. :)

Check for bengals and bengal mixes too, if you like the ocicat look and personality. There were lots on petfinder last time I looked. They do require lot of exercise, so a pair would be best.
