New Top Gun 2: Maverick trailer is released

Great family friendly movie. Works for those who have seen the original and those who haven't (we have a mix).

It would be a spectacular Father's Day movie, although who wants to wait that long?:)

Lady Gaga does one of the songs.

Correction, Lady Gaga does THE theme song. You hear it throughout the whole movie.

Is it just me? No disrespect to Lady Gaga fans. The music and the lyrics sound really complex and she spent a lot of time creating it. Yet, it doesn't seem to be a very catchy tune? :duck: It's not like "Shallow" where you hear it the first time and it immediately becomes an ear worm.

It's one of those songs that gets better the more you listen to it. And it does have a very catchy tune, in my opinion. I find myself randomly belting out

"SO CRYYYYYYY....TONIGHT......BUT DON'T YOU LET GO OF MY HAAAAAND"

It's a perfect nod to 80's/90's Power Ballads. The drums, the electric guitar...it's all there. Such a good song for this movie sequel.

I saw this movie last night. I do not care for T Cruise, in real life, but if I judged movies according to actor’s political/religious beliefs, there would be few movies to watch! I enjoyed this movie, very much, for the way they tied in the old with the new. We saw Goose’s little boy, who was sitting on top of the piano, while his dad played “Great Balls of Fire”, in the original Top Gun, to now being a member of Top Gun himself. I think the story line was brilliantly done! I won’t go into any more detail because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone that is planning to see it.

Dh and I just saw it.

I am not a movie person, but loved the OG. I have it recorded and need to it again. again.

I liked this one and am glad we went and I would see it again. There were a few things dh and I said would not have happened in real military, but made for entertainment in the movie.

Val Kilmer made a cameo and Ice was strongly included in the plot.

I loved Tom Cruise until he went crazy with scientology and jumping on Oprah's couch. Then his stuff was a turn off to me.

Music- there were some 80s songs in the background and I really only heard Lady Gaga's song in the end credits.

Like everyone of my 80s generation, Tom is starting to age. It's a little sad, but also comforting that he's like the rest of us.

Just saw it yesterday and thought it was incredible and even better than the original. It had something for everyone: some emotional/romantic parts, plenty of action, and serves as a great sequel by bringing in new characters while also maintaining the legacy of existing characters from the original.

Finally saw it with my son yesterday. Fun movie! I almost never go to new releases twice, but I'm tempted to go back. This is one I'm glad they waited to release in theaters after the pandemic.

Cruise is such a loon, but dang, he makes good movies. Can't wait for the new Mission Impossible movie!

Saw it in Imax a couple of weekends ago. I went into it with high expectations and it exceeded them. DW was skeptical (she doesn't care for Tom Cruise) but she really liked it, too.

Saw it on Friday. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being high), I'd say 7, maybe an 8.

What I liked...
* The call backs to the original
* The cinematography
* How much "Rooster" looked like "Goose" (don't think it's a spoiler that Goose's son plays a key role)

What I didn't...
* The plot (seems like a retread of multiple movies, including SW: A New Hope)
* "North Island" <> "Miramar" (pretty sure about that one... sorry if that's a spoiler)
* The "new" love interest, that I ended up learning via YouTube WAS mentioned in the original

I just saw it yesterday. Loved it! That beach football scene was worth the price of admission!

I was not sure what I would think, but DH wanted to see it.

BLEW me away. It was SO good. Just nostalgic enough, just new enough. Music - could have been more, but what was there was perfect.

We are planning on seeing it again before it leaves theatres...and I do NOT do that cuz I am cheap. It was definitely worth the wait.

Also, I did not know the love interest, but as soon as she popped up, DH was like "OOOOh, PB from the OG!" So, apparently it was obvious and I am oblivious.

I FINALLY got to see Top Gun! I. LOVED. IT!!! :jumping1:

Yep, as others have said, it has the right amount of nostalgia and music from the old movie, yet moved the story along, so that it is a stand-alone movie, for those who didn't see the original.

I could have done with a little more music, but what was there was great. I think Lady Gaga's song was just okay. I actually have had the Top Gun theme in my head all morning. Yet, that's the way it should be, not Gaga's song. So, it works for what it is.

I'd love to see the move again. But, I think I missed the window at the theatre I want to see it in. It has super 4-K, beyond high-def screens with a spectacular sound system. I can see the pores on people's faces. The graphics and the sounds of this movie are incredible. I purposely waited to see my first movie back from the pandemic, and THIS movie in particular, at THIS theatre. And unfortunately, I think it's leaving next weekend, and I won't get a chance to see it again during the week. :sad1:

Kudos to Tom Cruise & his production company for making a nice, tight story line. I loved how Iceman/Val Kilmer were elegantly folded into the story, both the character, and specifically utilizing Val's own illness. :thumbsup2 A definite, must see twice movie as there is so much going on.
