New "term" for pre-teen girls I heard yesterday...

ITA. You CAN see when anyone wears a thong. Either there is no panty lines which means they are in a thong or just not wearing any undies. Do parents really want the boys at school taking bets on which one that is? I can't tell you how many times I am in the mall and see these smart alec little punks with the thongs sticking out from their jeans. They and their parents need their heads knocked together.

Maybe we should talk about the boys who are taking bets on whether or not a girl is wearing a thong.

By your scenerio, she could be wearing a nice pair of khakis and a regular t-shirt with a thong and the boys would be taking bets.

Smart alec little punks.

You are right but there are two types of girls that wear this trash at such a young age. Those that put out and those called ***** teases. Gee, what one would you, as in general, want for your little girl?

Where did I say that I would let her wear such "trash?" If you read my post a couple of pages ago you would see that.

Again, who is calling them a **** tease? Those oh so well mannered little boys?

Edited to say: Why is a 12 year old boy thinking about a girl being a **** tease?

My 12 year old has no idea what a **** tease is, not a clue.

Don't get me wrong though because those kids are talking about sex and trying to figure everything out. My 12 year old was asking very openly about puberty the other day and I'm glad he felt comfortable enough with his father and me to ask those questions.

My child is popular in his class but if he told me he had to wear jeans that let his boxers show to be popular then he would just have to be a nerd because there is no way my child is going out of this house looking RIDICULOUS!

I didn't say YOU. I said you meaning in general. I even wrote "in general" as I was speaking of the subject. I was agreeing with you about the clothes not taking any longer. I simply added something and made sure to put in general so you know that I wasn't speaking to you. And I know plenty of boys in that age range that think that way. I don't know how many trips I chaperoned over the years and the many years I put in in the school teaching computer classes and was totally amazed at just what those boys say! These boys were from very good families with SAHM and professional dad's. There was nothing in their background to make them get the stuff they thought of. They got it from older kids in school. You wouldn't believe what 12 y/o boys think of the 12-13 y/o girls wearing the garbage we've been talking about. I would never let my girls wear anything like that as it causes attention that I wouldn't want my daughters to have.

As I said you can tell who is wearing a thong and it doesn't matter what kind of pants they have on. A 12 or 13 or even 14 y/o should not be wearing a thong! If people didn't dress their young girls like tramps then there wouldn't be any problems. Sorry but dressing like that is an open invitation.

Beauty- I don't think that every 12 year old boy knows what a **** tease is. :D

But I do think that the 12 year old boy who knows enough to call a girl a **** tease has as many problems as the 12 year old girl wearing inappropriate clothing.

Honestly, I am undecided about the thong issue. Luckily DD is only 2 1/2. :p I think by the time she *might* want to wear one they will be the norm. Then I will be worrying about something else. :p

As for getting jobs in the world today itr isn't about what you know it is about who you know and in alot of cases how good you look. Can you point out many sales floors that have unatractive looking sales people I can't I just took a job working for a bank here in London well I will be once my knee is better and I have my operation. Do I know how to do the job yes did I feel I was as qualified as the next person no but you know what I have an in my BIL works there and that is how I got in some people may not like it or agree but it really is how things go on in the world. So dress how you want and say what you want it is after all our right to. as for my daughter she has alot of flared pants and some low rise pants and some belly shirts etc so what she likes them and no one around here cares what others think or say it is accepted at school and in society it will never change or go away no matter what we do or say about it it hasn't stopped now and never will. Oh and just because a girl dresses that way doesn't mean she puts out I know alot of women and girls because of my daughters friends that come over that are the sweetes people and kids don't judge a book by it's cover. And don't judge kids by how they dress I am sure we all dressed a lttle wild when we were younger contrary to what the older generation thought was acceptable this is no different.

The use of a little punctuation would go a long way to helping us at least be able read your argument. As you have it written right now, I can't even tell what you are trying to say. Then again, as long as you look good and know the "right" people, I guess grammar skills aren't needed in life either.

So wearing a thong, no matter what the OTHER clothing, is an open invitation?

That is the saddest thing I have read all day, but I figured it was coming. :(

And what great profession to do think your daughter is going break into wearing belly shirts and low rise jeans as a 13 y/o? Do you really want her being a sales clerk in a department store? That would be the last place I would hope my daughter works as a career. Only the kids around here that can't get a decent job end up pushing perfume at Macys or flipping burgers at McDonalds. No thanks. My girls will use their brains to get a job and not have to rely on a belly hanging out or a panty line free rear end.

I have to laugh after reading that you only have a 2 1/2 year old. When she is 12 and wants to wear a thong I'd like to see how you feel. I KNOW you will feel differently. Until then it is like arguing with someone that has no inkling how they will feel until that moment comes. I thought you had experience with having a DD the age we were discussing. It is amazing how you feel one way when you don't have to deal with it and a completely different way when you do. Been there, done that.

I agree Jenn.

Now I really don't see thongs as being a problem if they are truly comfortable. I've never owned one so I can't make that judgement. However if I had a daughter and thongs were comfortable then I don't see a problem with it unless there are truly medical problems. I guess this is just a subject I'm not familiar enough with to make a judgement either way.

ABOVE the thong though she would have on DECENT CLOTHES. NO BELLY SHIRTS AND NO BUTT SHOWING JEANS AT 12!! We had a cousin come over to the house, she is probably 16 or so and had on jeans cut so low that she literally couldn't bend over without half her butt showing. Thats just GROSS!

Who said it has anything to do with what OTHERS think? Why can't it just make her, the person wearing the thong, self conscious to have their panty line showing? Just like she won't wear a tank tops that shows her bra strap. Its about what make HER confrontable.

There is a BIG difference between wearing a thong and pulling it so far up the butt crack to make it visiable. The whole point in a thongs is so that they do not show not so they do. At least in my example.

Oh isn't that the tackiest thing!!!!! There was a women in the bank today that was a loan officer and the shirt she had on was cut to wear a strapless bra with but nope there were the straps for everyone to see. That has nothing to do with trashy its just plain out tacky!

OMG! I never new that "a nice pair of khakis and a regular t-shirt " was unacceptable, better tell the private school around here that they better change their dress codes.

This is what I mean! Thank you! :D

disneychrista-ITA! A 12 year old can hear about panty lines at school and be uncomfortable with hers. ::yes::

 What does that have to do with anything? Most kids I know start at Macy's and McDonalds. Where would you suggest they start summer jobs? Smith Barney, Goldman Sachs? I just do not understand your logic. If for one minute you think all the people working hard flipping burgers or pushing perfume (your words, not mine) are thong wearing ****teases, the you lady are mistaken. Your attitude is both pompous and pontificating.

And by the way, not all the smart alec little punks that wear thongs are ****teases nor do they all put out (again, your words) I would even venture to guess that there are some smart alec little punks that wear bloomers. And that there are very prim and proper little girls in Mary Janes that do put out. :hyper:

I don't have time right now to read all 7 pages of this thread, but feel the need to reply.
Only I don't know what to say.
A part of me wants to scream at the parents that let their kids dress like trash.
A part of me remembers how much fitting in means to a 15 year old.

I know of horrible people that dress very well.
I know of wonderful intellegent people that live on the streets.
I don't care what kind of underwear someone has on,
but I don't want to see it either. Not to the point that I would support anti-undie laws.
I guess what I want to say is, I hope I never jump to conclusions about anyone based on the way they appear. Or think that someone was "asking for it" based on the way they dress, whatever "asking for it" might mean. Or judge another parent with out knowing the whole story. I guess I hope that what matters to me is how a person acts, not what they wear. And one more thing, I hope I remember this when my daughter is a teen- because I only have a male teen right now and I am in dread and fear of facing the female kind.

Omigosh! What this thread has degenerated into! I take a computer break to mop my floors and feed my family dinner, and then these past 3 pages get posted! :earseek:

I'm not sure what to address here first, but I have to say that DSNY FN's comments are :scared1:! And I thought his (you are a male, no?) comments on the birth control thread were :scared1:. Your posts here top that and then some!

Hopefully, I'm not comprehending your points here correctly, DSNY. You and your wife actually allow your SEVEN YEAR-OLD to pick out her own clothing?!?! Whatever it looks like? :earseek:

Some of you have a great talent for twisting other's words out of context. I applaud what appears to be the beginning of talent for spin-doctoring in you, DisneyChrista.

Frankly, when I was a teen, there was a panty-panty hose combo product called "Underalls." It eliminated panty-lines. Some of you are saying here that thongs are a modern day version of those, but I'm not buying it. Underwear is just that-- "under" wear. It isn't meant to be seen. If everyone can tell you have a thong on, it isn't there for its invisibility.
