New "term" for pre-teen girls I heard yesterday...

I should have used quotes in my other post.

I was responding to Skiwee1. I don't understand the need to put down people that work in department stores.

DSNY FN, I don't believe for one minute you agree with your daughter dressing this way. Most dads I know want their little
girls covered at all times. It doesn't matter if the she's 7 or 47, she's still daddy's little girl.

Neither do I, I just thinks he sees this as a good thing to fight about today.

I didn't read the entire thread.. just the first couple of pages. My brother is on the way here and I have to get the ready to leave...

I just wanted to add, which might have been said before.. that I think mothers that allow their children to dress that way do so to live "vicariously" through their daughters.

Maybe they weren't the "sexy" one in middle school or high school and having daughters that have "applied beauty" through makeup, haircoloring and clothes somehow gives them a sense of belonging or something.. I dunno. Kind of like the mothers of the little beauty queens like Jon Benet Ramsey.

It's a shame though because it seems to be teaching young girls that you are pretty only if you cake on makeup and trashy clothes... instead of seeing how they are beautiful without and enjoying their childhood and letting nature take it's course maturing them

I totally agree--it is NOT what I'm teaching my daughter about growing up and becoming a woman. Using your "sex appeal" might work in this world but I sure as heck am not going to teach her that is how women get ahead. She has a brain. She is smart. She'll get there using it and not her looks. While it is true that being attractive helps in this life, I still believe that society puts too much emphasis on looks and youth.

Parents allowing there young dds to dress this way is sending the message that it is good.

If you haven't noticed, there is a huge difference in the clothing of the 70s and the clothing now. There is a difference between low rise jeans sitting below the waitline and jeans barely coving the pubic area.

Too many parents say "Oh, my dd looks good in it. She's cute, thin and CAN wear it ,so why not?" Think again. Kids are growing up way too fast.

The other day I had a 21 yo girl tell me that she is sad now, looking back on her early teens years. She is sorry she thought she had to grow up so fast. She is sorry that her mom avoided the fights and allowed her to dress too old for her years. She is sorry that she participated in things that girls that age shouldn't be doing. She was super popular in middle and high school and hurt a lot of other girls in the process.

It happens all the time I do not mean go to an interview wearing low rise jeans and short shirts. If you have 2 women or men go in to an interview say the 2 women are equally qualified and one dressed very well but a little more conservative and the other one dressed with a little more showing so to speak alot of time the one that dresses a little more sexy gets the job.

Not if I'm doing the hiring. And I don't think this happens all the time, either. Most people are smart enough NOT to go to an interview showing skin.

I read the first couple of pages of this thread and say I must agree. What a term to call young girls! My dd is 4 and when she sees you ng girls dressed liked that, she is amazed. she wants to know why they are showing all their bodies and says that their mommies need to tell them how to dress better. I laugh. It really does start at home. Young girls should not be allowed to show so much skin. And then sometimes we wonder why bad things happen to our young girls

oh
my
god

what the heck happened to this thread?

DSNY FN - um yeah...sorry...but I think you have some issues and your views on women are EXTREMELY messed up. Let's just leave it at that.

and - for the record - I didn't win any beauty pageants in my day and I have a DAMN good job.

Very interesting turn these past 6 pages took....

"and then sometimes we wonder why bad things happen to our young girls"

hmmm... bad things happen to our young girls because there are evil sick people in the world, not because of how they are dressed.

HaleyB...whatever page you were on...I loved your post about not judging people!

Yes I have seen people dressed too sleazy for me and may have rolled my eyes and wondered about their taste and walked on. I don't spend the time to question their or their parents values.

I question their parents values if the girl is a child of 7 y/o or even 14 y/o. Sorry but if they want to dress their kids like tramps then they are going to be judged and deservedly so.

This morning , something happened at the gym that reminded me of this thread. ;)

In the locker area there are benches that butt up against full sized mirrors....today a high school girl was straddeling this -clothed and putting on her makeup. She was not thin and had low rise pants on. What a view I had! At least 2 inches of butt crack was showing in that position-I can't imagine going to school like that!

Not sure about the whole 'prostitot' thing, but I know in England the girls are even more sexualized than the states. Girls walk around wearing REALLY short skirts...like barely covering the cheeks, and hooker boots. All the pre-teens look like little 20 year olds. Not sure how this affects the culture over here, but it is pretty shocking to see at first glance.
