New Magic Kingdom Welcome Show & Main Street Opening UPDATE: Page 15 - Post #281

Just got back from MK
First off I would like to thank whoever was that decided to do the last show on Marathon day a trip that usuallt takes me 25 min. took and hour and 20. But I made it to MK, and I think a lot of people were stuck in traffic cause it was empty.
Streamed the last show and there were a few tears shed by CM.
So went into the Emporium to ask at what time they were opening tomorrow, first CM looked confused but searched in his pocket for the tell-a-cast, sort of like a CM times guide and told me 9am. I said that couldn't be and explained, MS is supposed to open early, new show on the castle stage, this took about 3 minutes of me explaining and him saying that the park opened at 9am, I said thank you but he asked me to wait while he went back and asked. Sure enough came back with 8am
Just to be sure I asked 3 manager/coordinator CM and the Emporium, Bakery, Confectionary and the photopass store are all opening at 8am. Asked on my way out at what time the turnstiles would open tomorrow and was told 8am.
Met Snow White and asked her if she would be part of the show, she said yes with other princesses. So asked to character handler, he said, all the princesses and the fab 5. No Main Street citizens.

So now I'll wait and see how the flow within the park goes when the park opens @ 9. Might be easier now, and much cheaper to enter at 8, grab a quick bfast on Main St and just wait by walkway to Mine Train and follow the line on at opening. Easier than getting all the way down Main St and into the line. But then again, if the lines start forming at 8 and stands there, growing, until 9, BOG early ADR might still be easier. We'll see - looking forward to reports.
I do see the problem they were running into - on our last 2 trips the crowds waiting for the park to open literally stopped people from being able to enter the turnstiles - and it was packed like sardines - a security concern these days so close to the unsecured area of the entrance. Sad they even have to think like that, but they do.

All I thought about this AM was last show and marathon - ya got to wonder sometimes ...

it was crazy and I felt bad for the performers in the show, they didn't get the huge crowd they deserved. I could've gone on all the big rides in the first hour, I left around 10:30am and the entrance was packed, BTW the AP entrance is still operating

I think all the princesses and the Fab 5 are a perfect welcome to start the day at the Magic Kingdom...they do live there after all!

there has been no mention of the Citizens leaving, I have several friends that are in entertainment, especially many in the CoH troupe and no mention of any cuts to the CoMS

this will not make it easy to arrive by 8am. If you have the option between ferry or bus, the bus is usually faster. Photo from allears

Oh my gosh, yulilin3, thank you so much for all of this information! I have to say, I'm kind of excited about this! I LOVED the entrance show and understand with security, this was a really good decision IMHO, but my DS9 LOVES to walk fairly slowly down Main St. in the am, checking out the Emporium windows, etc. It will be nice to do all of that and really not miss any time on rides and attractions.

One question - we love the Main St. vehicles! - will they start operating at official park opening? Or when the tapstiles, Emporium, etc. open that one hour earlier.

I believe this closure is part of the ongoing monorail computer system upgrades they've been having. Unfortunate for sure. Hopefully this has got to be wrapping up soon. Seems like it's been going on for years. Heck, at the rate they are going, I'm worried by the time they finish the computer system will be out of date and it will be time to start again!
