We usually have someone that either stays at the house with our dog while we are gone, or comes in multiple times a day to feed/check on the dog and drop off our mail. So, we make sure our house is clean before we leave on vacation. And it is nice coming home to a clean home after vacation!

Top to bottom cleaning before we leave for vacation. Nothing better than coming home to a clean house!!!

Always before a vacation and before a storm like tropical storm, hurricane and a couple weeks again we got 9 inches of snow ( for my area that is a lot) .

I leave my house reasonably clean because I have a petsitter that comes to feed my cats and clean the litter boxes. We are usually gone for a least a week and the house cleaner will come during that time too; so it needs to be fairly clutter free so she can do her job.

I also clean my house and change my sheets before I leave for vacation. While on vacation if the place I am staying has a washer and dryer I will wash everything before packing to return home.

I used to get all twisted out of shape about leaving the house clean when we left on vacation, but decided it wasn't worth the extra effort and stress. I make sure the leftovers are cleaned out of the fridge, run the dishwasher, take out the trash, clean the toilet, and that's about it. I'd do laundry but usually do this in the day before I want to pack, so clothes are clean for vacation or clean to come home to. Anything that will get "gross" by the time we return is taken care of but the rest... it'll be there when we return!

By clean, I'm going to include yard maintenance. Fresh cut lawn, edging and weed whacking. No dirty dishes in sink and anything that was left to dry is put away. Beds are made, but not necessarily a clean the day before vacation.

Yes, our cleaning team shines up the house and changes the sheets while we are gone on vacation. Love coming home to a fresh, clean house!

I try to have everything tidy before leaving. I'll throw some PineSol in the toilets and in a bowl on the kitchen sink so that there's a somewhat fresh smell when we get back (throwback to my mother's cleaning when PineSol actually included pine oil).

We do, depending on who is coming to stay with the dogs. Our kids, nope, our dog sitter, yes :-)

This poll made me chuckle because my family teases me constantly about how obsessive I am about cleaning the house before we leave. I always want everything to be just so - makes me feel more relaxed about leaving, and I love to come home to a clean house!

That is my wife's preference. She admits she has OCD when it comes to cleaning the house. I do the three bathrooms, and sweep, vacuum and Bona the floors, she dusts all the nick-nack dust catchers and does the kitchen. All the wood furniture gets polished.

We also tend to go the the grocery store right before a trip so we are fully stocked when we get home. That came in handy when we came home from a 8 day road trip to Texas in 2023 , and brought Covid home with us and had to quarantine for two weeks .

Just the normal cleaning here. I make sure there is no food in the fridge that will go bad, the dishwasher has been run, and make sure all the trash is out in the can in the garage (we can’t leave cans out over a vacation due to the HOA). But those are all things that I do over the course of a week anyway so it doesn’t seem like anything extra.

We tidy up the house before we leave. We make beds, put away clutter, make sure the bathrooms and kitchen are clean. We keep the house pretty clean all the time, so there really isn't a lot to do. I always do laundry before we leave so that I have everything I need for the trip. :)
That's the way we do it too:)
I clean up the clutter and put things away. I do that anyway because I can't stand things to be out of order, lol. It's so nice to come home when we are bone tired and have a cleanish house greet us. I usually get my second wind after getting home and start doing the laundry right away:)

Pristine is not a word I would EVER use to describe my house. I don't usually dust until I see the dust bunnies on the landings. The kitchen and bathrooms we keep clean, but vacuuming the rugs doesn't happen often. I do like to leave it relatively clean and neat when we go away.

The end of a vacation is generally enough of a downer already that I don't need to be coming home to a house that's not presentable. It has to be tidy when we leave or it would hang in my mind the entire time I was gone.

I make sure the dishes are done, the toilets are clean, and the trash is out, but I never have time to worry about things like changing sheets the morning we leave.
