I saw the other thread about the Netflix increases. We are way mad here at my house. I am just curious to see how many people:
1. Canceled their subscription

2. changed their plan to make it cheaper

3. Left it alone and didn't change their plan at all

We cancelled...we don't use it enough to justify the cost. We get the DVDs on occassion but usually if we wanted to see a movie - we were at Redbox anyway. Added to that slow streaming (probably my internets fault not theirs) and we decided to just get rid of it. Had we used it a lot or loved it - I would have probably kept it. At the old price I didn't mind keeping it for on occasion but I just couldn't justify the higher cost!

I currently have the 2 dvds at a time plan but will be switching to one dvd at a time + instant streaming come September.

We are also going from the 2 dvd's to 1 with streaming.

As much as I dislike the price increase we kept our original plan of 1 dvd and unlimited streaming. According to an article in PC Magazine the reason for the price increase is that netflix will start offering more mainstream movies via streaming, so I am holding out a bit longer to see if it holds true or not. We do not pay for cable tv at all so netflix and hulu plus are our only tv sources.

We downgraded from DVDs + streaming to streaming-only several months ago because we just weren't watching the DVDs. We're happy with the streaming-only option, and the price hasn't changed.

We only have the streaming plan. We are keeping it. Kids love it and DH access it a lot when we are traveling as we can watch everything from Netflix on our iPhones amd iPads.

I'm switching to streaming only, but not really because of the price. We are just bad to not mail them back quickly enough to get our moneys worth. And we just watch like 95 percent streaming anyway. Now if there were no Redbox, I might have a different answer. Cheaper and new movies. And promo codes and good deals. The last 2 times, I was offered a second movie for only 50 cents more, who can pass that up?

Since we don't have wi-fi, we don't do the streaming (nobody wants to sit in front of the computer to watch a movie in my house :rotfl: ). I was happy that my plan w/ 2 DVD's per month went DOWN in price

I replied that I am canceling the DVDs and keeping the streaming but I really haven't decided yet. I have had The Black Swan sitting here since about the middle of May. We rarely watch movies in the summer or fall but do watch them almost every week in the winter. I just haven't decided if the price to keep the DVDs is worth the convenience of not having to go to the video store or Redbox. I'll decide before 9/1.

I am keeping the streaming. DS streams to his computer while he's away at school. I only watch it a little (I'd watch it more if they'd come out with an Android app) but the price is worth it for DS and for the little bit that I watch.

Good luck with everyone's decisions!

I kept my 1DVD/Streaming plan.

Our closest RedBox is a 40 minute trip there and back. So to have to return it too, 80 minutes driving time just for one movie isn't worth it to me. We turn them around pretty quickly, so we get around 10-12 DVDs each month, which under the new price makes it less than RedBox $1 per.

And we use the streaming nearly every day. Netflix and HuluPlus are all we watch. Still way less than cable.

vsimeone: You could always switch to the streaming plan, then switch back to the dvd/streaming in the winter. You can change plans in your account settings easily. That way you can tailor it to your needs.

You can also put the account on hold for up to (I think) 90 days if going on long vacations, etc. You don't get billed while on hold.

I put cancelled, but I haven't done it yet. I plan on doing it before Sept 1. I just can't justify the cost when we seem to keep the movies for way too long. I will be using redbox for the new movies and rent them on a day we are sure we are going to watch it. I figure I can always go back to Netflix later on but I doubt we will do it.

Our account is on hold for 3 months to see how we do without it. (If we miss it) If we still want it, we'll only get streaming and we'll get any BluRays or DVDs from RedBox. There are atleast 6 boxes near me and I don't have to wait two days to get the movie I want to watch that night. I think it will save us tons of money that way. When we first got netflix, we were saving TONS of money compared to walking into Hollywood Video to rent a movie for $5 and walking out with $30 of used DVDs to own... almost once a month... ugh...

I cancelled mine. I beleive the dramatic increase in price for the service you were already receiving is ridiculous! They should have increased by a smaller number, or first service 7.99 add the second for only 3.99 more a month.

I picked "Keep it as it is."

At first, my knee-jerk reaction was to cancel the DVD portion and stick to streaming only. But then, I realized that I like certain old movies/TV shows that I won't be able to get at Red Box. (I usually do not check out new movies.) So I think I am just going to keep it as it is.

Current plan: 9.99 one at a time DVD with unlimited streaming
New plan: $15.98 for same

I guess still a good deal in my case.

We currently have the streaming only so for us it's still a good deal. But normally in the winter we add on the DVD this year we will probaly just stick with the streaming.

I am on 1 DVD plus streaming. After some thought, I have decided to just drop down to streaming only. I will try that for three months and see if I miss the DVD option (which I usually only use if something is unavailable through streaming). We have no BB in our area, and our libraries do not carry DVDs. Even if I fold and add the 1 DVD option back to our plan, it's still far less than cable.

I will be cancelling my subscription - we don't use either service enough to justify the increased cost of either plan.

We actually haven't done anything yet, but we will be dropping the 1 DVD and just keeping streaming.

We are most likely going to cancel. We don't turn over the DVDs in a timely manner and the streaming options are outdated. We've never used Red Box before so we're going to give it at try.
