My son just had a fructose tolerance test which revealed he is intolerant to fructose. I hope to get an appt. with a dietician but would love to hear any experiences/ successes that any of you have had with this problem.
Well, fructose is just a sugar. High fructose corn syrup isn't from fruit, it's from corn, and it's made in a lab. So it's not the same thing.
It's so odd to be intolerant to such a natural sugar, though! Just my uninformed opinion, of course.
Yesterday we were shopping, and dawdling, and we were checking out the non-organic packaged meal boxes like Rice a Roni. Hubby and I ate that a lot when engaged, b/c all of our money was going to the "just in case my dad flakes and doesn't pay like he offered" wedding fund. I also looked at the pasta meals, which I ate a couple years before I met now-hubby b/c i was beyond broke.
And criminy, the corn syrup and HFCS content!...no wonder I gained weight while eating those things!!! The caloric intake was easy to account for, but still I/we gained weight on them, and that must be why.
Remembering that my family is more limited b/c DS and DH can't even eat corn syrup or corn syrup solids let alone HFCS, I just wanted to mention that we're about a month away from the anniversary of when I realized that my son had a problem with it. It was all a DumDum lollipop that spurred it, and it's amazing to think of how different he is now that we don't feed the stuff to him. He has still refused actual corn (we'll see if that persists on 4th of July) so we don't know if it's that pervasive (though cornstarch and corn flour don't seem to bug him), but he's a different kid than when he was eating that stuff.
No one else cares, and some of you might, so I just wanted to share the approaching anniversary.
