Most hated baby names

I think people should think about(especially girls names) what a name might do to a person who is trying to be a professional and taken seriously. I'm not saying I don't like these names but it's hard to imagine a POTUS named Destiny or Misty, kwim? Of course, this year we had Mitt, Newt and Barack. Maybe the world is changing. I still think it's gonna be a problem with women.

The real horror is that there are actually babies out there...right now...named Renesme.

Gertrude is a classic name and the nicknames are great, especially Trudie/Trudy.
:3dglasses
No names will be liked by everyone. My grandmother didn't like any name on our list.

Our DD is named Harper. And now even those who didn't like the name can't imagine her named anything else.

The only names I like on the list are Addison and Hunter. Michael is meh IMO, but definitely doesn't deserve to be on there.

My favorite names are Charlotte and Alexandra for girls and Pierce and Mason for boys. I'm kind of surprised none of them made the list. A lot of my friends have told me they sound "uppity".

I don't get the love for Addison. All I think is Addison's Disease. Ugh.

I'm so glad Jayden and Brayden are high on that list. Those names annoy the crap out of me for some unknown reason. Jayden was actually the first name to pop in my head when I read the title of this thread.

Yes! Thinking along the same lines.

Yep. Every boy born in the last 5 years that I know has some version of that name. I am over it!

I have an Addison (born 11/05)... She is the only kid in her k-2 school with that name, but when we were on vacation in Hawaii in Dec we met so many girls named Addison! Honestly, I can't imagine her named anything else! :cutie:

I like the name Addison. I think it's pretty.

I have a Katelynn. (Not spelled like the one on the list but different for sure). If I had to do over again I would not have chose that name just because it is so over used now! Although she will use Kate when she gets older; looking back I would have named her Cesley.

I don't mind Addison, Hunter, Michael or Katelyn(actually I reallly like the name if it's spelled Caitlin), but I my two most disliked girls names are on there-Madison and Mackenzie, so that list is okay by me.;)

I really dislike Bruce and Donald and Ronald (though my dad and brother are Don and Bruce Springsteen is my favorite singer) more than the Jayden, Hayden, Caden , Braden names, though I totally agree that they are so overdone.
Aiden I still like.

My daughter is Julia and my son is Matthew, so I guess they, especially Matthew, fall on the boring Michael side of things, but that's okay I love their names.
It wouldn't bother me in the slightest if their name was on a most hated list, because I am so confident in their fabulousness, I'd just think everyone else was wrong.;) Especially Julia, I absolutely love this name.

It was funny the other day at my daughter's softball game, you keep hearing the same names being yelled out. Both teams had a Julia, an Olivia, a Taylor, and Ashley, a Madison, a Hailey and a Nicole.

To the above poster, I think Harper is a really cool name for a girl!

I like the name Michael. I also like the name Mackenzie.

What's funny to me is that so many other "old lady names" are coming back into fashion. Most of my and my DH's great-aunts have names that are showing up in my niece and nephews' generation: Emma, Esther, Audrey, Louise... :rotfl2:

I have a niece (4) and a cousin (1) named Emma.

If I ever have a daughter someday, her name will be Audrey after my Nana.

The article does not really surprise me....those names are SO overdone! The only one I actually like is Gertrude. I would never use it, but I think it's nice. I also personally do not like unisex names. I prefer clearly masculine names on boys, and clearly feminine names on girls.

That is the beauty of it all though. Your baby, your choice :thumbsup2 and my opinion means nothing at all :)

My dd's name is Nelia. Most people when they see it pronounce it as Nee-lee-a, but it is really pronounced like Neil-ya. She is named after my mom whose first name is Cornelia. So we just took the Cor off.
I really like that name with the pronunciation you used. I would have read it nee-lee-a and not cared quite as much for it, but the way you say it sounds beautiful! I also like it with the cor on front too.
All I think is Addison's Disease. Ugh.
I think of it too!

I agree with all the PP that say its just the idea of the list itself thats stupid. Who cares what the list writer thinks, we all have names we like and dont like, but to be so presumptuous as to think you can decided which are the most hated is a bit arrogant. None of my kids names made the list, though I was surprised, I thought maybe one might have been on it.

My youngest sons name is Rowan and lots of people didnt like it. My mother said "like rowan a boat?" We liked it though and it has special meaning, so thats all that matters to us. :)

I am not a fan of "trendy" names.

I am sick of the add-a-ayden trend (for boys and girls)

I don't like boy's names on girls. (you never see the reverse, do you?)

I don't like surnames as given names (Addison, Madison, Hunter, MacKenzie...etc)
BTW... anything ending in"son" is masculine meaning "son of"

I don't like kreeatiff spellings. "Michaela" was a lovely name until it got butchered by "Makayla."

Nevaeh just annoys me to death. Heaven backwards would be hell, right?

I can't see the name "Destiny" without thinking of McFly from "Back to the Future," "You are my density." :rotfl2:

There are also quite a few "legit" names that I am totally over. Around here Jacob, Emma, Sophia, Aidan, Ava, Olivia are all way over-used.

BTW: There was a female baker on "Cupcake Wars" on FoodTV whose name was "Anomaly." What were her parents thinking?

My niece is named Hunter.

Yay! We've met a few girls named Hunter. :goodvibes

I love the name Hunter! And for a girl even MORE!

You always have said that.:thumbsup2:goodvibes If I had a boy, it would not be Hunter though. "Kirk" was on our list because it was DH's grandpa's name. It would have been short and sweet, whatever it was. Michael was already taken in my family--we had 2!

I love the name Hunter! And the child, of course. :goodvibes Too violent? It's not like naming your kid "Killer." (Altho, my niece had a little white kitty named "Killer", or as my niece used to call her, "Tiller the Tat".)

None of my kids are on the list. But I think it's a dumb list anyway...an informal poll?? That's meaningful. NOT.

Personally, I don't like super trendy names and absolutely despise "creative" (ie, "annoying") spellings. If I were to have a child now (a horrifying thought) I'd go back to more traditional names, like John, Michael, etc.

And she loves you too, Momma Mare.;)

Geoffrey is the original spelling of the name Jeffrey.

My dd's name is Nelia. Most people when they see it pronounce it as Nee-lee-a, but it is really pronounced like Neil-ya. She is named after my mom whose first name is Cornelia. So we just took the Cor off.

My granny's name was Mildred Gertrude! When she was little she was called Millie. Gertrude can be also Gertie. Gertie is a cute name for a little girl but not a grown woman.

Nelia was on my list also. I had a dear friend, who's wonderful grandmother was named Nelia (they often called her Neily). I always said it Neil-ya. Once, someone asked me if it would be said Nee-lee-ya. I had not thought of that, and thought it to be as equally pretty, but I was afraid of the confusion it could bring--never even thinking someone might pronounce it Nel-ya. Hunter has been easy, except for dropping the "t". :rotfl:

Love the name Harper. I know a Harper too.

I think we most definitely associate names with people we might know with the name and whether we like it or not.

My grandma's name was Lexie and growing up, I knew I'd NEVER name my kid *THAT* name, Then it became popular when it came time for me to have kids... I still didn't use it though.

I do like strong names for girls and not "fluffy" names. But, liking different names makes the world go round. :)

My girlfriend had a boy last year and named him Braylen. I cannot tell you how much I hate that name. Everyone seemed to love it, I was in the VAST minority. All the -len -den names have been made into trendy names, like the Tiffany Brittany Courtney Chelsey names of the 80s.

My Mom loved the name Michael so much she named my sister Michelle and called her MIKE! :rotfl: She turns 57 this year and we still call her that.
When I had my son, she begged me to name him Michael. She said it's a MAN'S name and it never goes out of style. I agreed, but the only issue I've had is Mike has always had to be Michael LastName because there was always another Mike in the class.

Another problem is people RARELY spell it correctly. :confused3 I always thought it was an easy name until we kept seeing it spelled MichEAL. :)

My great-grandfather's name was John Addie Smith and he was called Addie. When my nephew was born almost 6 years ago, my brother and SIL found the name Addison. They thought it was perfect because they were "adding a son". I still cringe when I hear little girls named Addison because in my mind, it's a boys name. :confused3

My mother's nickname is Neily and that is whatt we were going to name dd first. Then my Mama told me that she has always hated that nickname, I decided on Nelia. My Mama doesn't even go by her first name of Cornelia but instead her middle name Ann.

Love the name Harper. I know a Harper too.

I think we most definitely associate names with people we might know with the name and whether we like it or not.

I totally agree. In my 20 years of teaching there is only one name I can't stand, Travis. Not a bad name but it makes me think of the one student who made my job an extreme challenge.

My grandma's name was Lexie and growing up, I knew I'd NEVER name my kid *THAT* name, Then it became popular when it came time for me to have kids... I still didn't use it though.

I agree with you on the fluffy names

I always HATED the name Allison growing up.. I'd never name my kid that... Yeah ... again never say never.. My second dd is Allison...
