I figured having one thread for historical race weekend sell out timing would be useful. There's always a lot of hand wringing over the registration process and the timing of sell outs. So I figured some historical data would be useful for those discussions in one easily findable collection of information. I'll update this thread after each weekend's registration.

Any idea if early registration was an option and when for previous Marathon Weekends like there is for 2022?

Club runDisney Gold & Platinum Registration Opens July 20, 2021 at 10 AM EST.

General Registration for In-Person Races Opens July 27, 2021 at 10 AM EST.

General Registration for Virtual Races Opens July 30, 2021 at 10 AM EST.

If everything for Marathon Weekend is like it was last year (fully expecting that there will still be way reduced capacity compared to 2019 & 2020 - crazy that almost everything was available so long those years!) hopefully that means I can at least get into the Marathon. 20-30 minutes is a crapshoot amount of time depending on where you fall in the queue, but 90 is better.

Since I already have my room reservation for the MW days, I just want to get into something! I’m going for Dopey, but will literally sign up for any of the races depending on what’s open by the time I get through.

AP holders and DVC owners had an early registration period about 5 days ( I believe) before general registration. But there was a limited number of registrations available for them, i.e., not all AP/DVC who tried to register during the early period were accepted.

Who knows if this number of previous early registrations is comparable to the number of Gold/Platinum Club members who can theoretically all get a registration--RD never released DVC/AP available numbers and I don't know if they ever published Club registration numbers. The unknown impact would be on us non-club members--if there are more people in the Club getting race slots than the number of previous early registrations allowed, then assuming the same field size, there will be fewer spots available for the rest of us.

We've been debating going to Hawaii in December for the Honolulu marathon (assuming the MW wasn't happening), and we've been saying we want to go to Hawaii anyway for Christmas one year. The availability of MW races will help make our decision!

Commonly the AP/DVC early registration would sell out. During my digging, I do even remember coming across a 5k that sold out really quick during early registration, but then took days during general.

The opportunity for early registration no longer exists for AP/DVC in 2021/2022 registration.

One catch is the Club runDisney member only get a single registration for a single race per member. Gold can only get a HM or longer (so no early registration on 5k or 10k or even the mystery spring race if it ends up being a 10 miler). Platinum gets one spot in one distance. Whereas, AP/DVC members could register for multiple races and for multiple people. People commonly asked how extended of family they could register for DVC members and I'm sure in some cases it was stretched. So the impact on 5k/10k races might actually be less than early registration AP/DVC. But it's a complete unknown.

So one race, one distance excludes Goofy and Dopey? Or are the challenges incorporated into the options for Club runDisney members? If that is the case then it seems that opportunity to get Dopey or Goofy bibs on general registration day will be better this year than when AP/DVC had early registration. Excluding potential reduced numbers of course.

One race distance includes the Challenges. So Goofy and Dopey are available for club members during the early registration process.

I think I’m going to try for the Princess 10k. I am attempting to take the day off to register bc I know if I don’t I won’t have a shot.
Fingers crossed my boss approves it and I can at least try. Really hoping to get back to Disney races.

Can you just block your calendar on registration day? I put myself in a meeting from 9:30 until 11:00 so no one disturbs me or tries to pull me into something else.

I wish. Unfortunately, I’m a mammo tech so if I have a patient scheduled I can’t stop what I’m doing.
I have my sister and older DD on standby if I can’t get the time off. 🤞

Does anybody know how long the 5k and 10k Marathon Week virtual registrations are typically open for before selling out?

This is the first year they have offered both in-person AND virtual together so no one knows. I would THINK that virtual wouldn’t sell out as quickly because the demand for in-person will probably be so high, but there might be a lot of FOMO if everything for in-person sells out super fast.

I know if I don’t get an in-person bib I’ll probably do virtual dopey (because I like shiny things and the cost is almost the same as in person goofy) and hate every second because it’ll be winter in northern Michigan when I run it all......probably on my treadmill.

Same for me, if I fail to get an in-person bib then I will do the virtual. But my family is going to WDW on vacation either way. So I will avoid the Michigan winter weather and do the virtual on property.

Anyone else going to get on the website tomorrow and refresh every couple of minutes just to see how fast stuff sells out? So you can have more stress about registration for MW? Just me? 🤣

I had planned to jump on there to get some new screenshots for helping others with registration questions in the future. But now I've got a project going on for about 2 hrs around registration time, so I probably won't be able to capture those screenshots if we get a quick sellout. I figure the Wine and Dine thread would do a decent job of updating us on the progress of sellouts (or update here and I can update the OP).

Tomorrow will be really interesting from a comparative standpoint. Does the sell out timing look more like W&D 2020 (everything gone in 2 hrs with no presumed capacity restrictions), MW/P 2021 (most everything sold out in 30 min, but reliable information to say reduced capacity), or 2019 rates where in general we're talking hours/days/months for sellouts?

I hope just you :)
I'll be on the website tomorrow to register for the HM!
We will let you know how fast races sell out on the W&D thread.
