Most hated baby names

Only on on that list I like is Michael. I like Aiden o.k., don't hate it.

The rest seem made-up names to me. Which is fine if that is your thing. Our kids all have "old" names (Katherine, Christopher, James) - I'm sure some people hate them too. We like them and so do our kids, so that is all that matters.

Oops just looked at the list again and saw Gertrude and Bertha. Both "old" names but not ones that stood the test of time very well. I also noticed our last name is on that list too. We like it as our last name just fine.

I love the name, Michael. From the looks at how many are named Michael, I'm not alone. :teeth:

My youngest ds's name is Kaden.

I love it.

I don't give 2 hoots about what anybody thinks........

I think everyone has their own list of top hated baby names.

Well my Hunter is to the left in my avatar. He isn't violent. And it was my great grandfathers name. LOL I certainly hope it was made up! I think all names have been at one point!:rotfl2:

I hate any name that sounds made up on the spot. Also don't care for unusual spellings of common names. For example, my middle name is Jeffrey. Mom wanted it to be Geoffrey, thankfully Dad filled out the BC :lmao:

.....:scratchin I think 'Dweezil' isn't a popular name - for a girl OR a boy.....yup, Dweezil. popcorn::

I was just reading an article somewhere about changes in pronunciation over time and one example given was the name Agnes. Apparently in the Elizabethan era in England, the G was silent. There were also two variant pronunciations: ANN-us and ANN (in which case the S was also silent).

....sooooo, is it pronounced 'anus'? :confused3 I sure hope not.

Can't ya just hear Martha Stewart saying, "It's a Good Thing" :rotfl:

Funny story about hated baby names, actually. My cousin had a baby girl a few weeks ago, and she'd kept the baby name a secret until she was born. She told my aunt the baby's name, but my aunt misheard and told the whole family that the baby's name was Slora. Everyone hated it, but no one was brave enough to ask my cousin where she got the name from. Finally someone did, and my cousin got all confused and had to explain that the baby's name is Flora. Anything is better than Slora, so now everyone loves the name Flora.

As a side note, I don't think I've ever met anyone named Cody who isn't severely ADHD. When I volunteered at an elementary school and looked at the roster to see which kids I'd be working with, I knew I would be working with anyone named Cody since the Codys always ended up in special ed. Coincidence?

Geoffrey is the original spelling of the name Jeffrey.

My dd's name is Nelia. Most people when they see it pronounce it as Nee-lee-a, but it is really pronounced like Neil-ya. She is named after my mom whose first name is Cornelia. So we just took the Cor off.

My granny's name was Mildred Gertrude! When she was little she was called Millie. Gertrude can be also Gertie. Gertie is a cute name for a little girl but not a grown woman.

....hmmmm, I would have pronounced it NEL-ee-ya....like my mom's aunt. :confused3

I always think the Jeffrey is the phonetic (dumbed down) way to spell Geoffrey, the proper spelling (same with Gillian/Jillian). Now, made up weird spellings, I'm not a fan, but I do like the proper spellings.

I have twins in my kindergarten class names Bertha and Cornelius. The parents seem so normal too... :confused3

Wow those poor kids. I have a friend whos sister named her son Otto--I think of a big fat german man whenever they talk about this kid Otto LOL...
Addison to me sounds like a snooty mans name-nothing feminine about that name at all. Not one of my favorites for sure.
I had such a hard time picking names when I was pregnant- coldn't use any of the mean cheerleader type girls names, couldn't use the bad kids in class from when I went to school LOL...I liked one name but there was a REALLY bad kid in school with that name and so it got crossed off. My cousin is a teacher and she says she had such a hard time naming her kids because certain names reminded her of students she wanted to forget LOL.

Only in this country. Among those who invented the language, the correct spelling dominates.

And since I live in THIS country, I'll take the version we most frequently use here please :)
