Most hated baby names

My girlfriend had a boy last year and named him Braylen. I cannot tell you how much I hate that name. Everyone seemed to love it, I was in the VAST minority. All the -len -den names have been made into trendy names, like the Tiffany Brittany Courtney Chelsey names of the 80s.

My Mom loved the name Michael so much she named my sister Michelle and called her MIKE! :rotfl: She turns 57 this year and we still call her that.
When I had my son, she begged me to name him Michael. She said it's a MAN'S name and it never goes out of style. I agreed, but the only issue I've had is Mike has always had to be Michael LastName because there was always another Mike in the class.

Another problem is people RARELY spell it correctly. :confused3 I always thought it was an easy name until we kept seeing it spelled MichEAL. :)

Ugh, Tiffany. I remember quite a few Tiffanys growing up. I always thought that isn't going to be a good name when they are old. To me, Tiffany just reminds me of the 80s' crimped, high, side ponytails and all. I have a hard time picturing 70 year old Tiffanys.

Well, it all could be worse. I went to school with a Kandi Barr and a Sherry Martini. No joke. My last name is Cobb and when my hubby was born, his aunt was super po'd when his mom would not name him Cornelius. Can you imaginge going thru life as a Corny Cobb? :scared1:

Tiffany is #1 on my hate list. Followed by Brittney, Crystal and Skylar. Out of respect for anyone here with those names, I'll keep what they remind me of to myself :rolleyes1

I always HATED the name Allison growing up.. I'd never name my kid that... Yeah ... again never say never.. My second dd is Allison...

I've always liked that name, particularly the spelling you chose. Does your DD go by Allison or Ally? I think every Allison I've ever known has gone by Ally. I like Allison much better, personally!

Don't forget Jennifer and Jessica!

Too funny. You'd never predict spelling problems with a name like Michael. My parents never imagined my name would be mispelled as often as it is, but it happens all the time.

I think the writer of that article must have had a serious case of writer's block if that's the best she could come up with for a parenting article. Maybe someone will make up a list of most hated dumb Internet articles and put that one at the top of the list.

None of the names on the list are even in my top 5 of bad names. I'm a teacher so you know I've heard some doozies. There are a few names that were perhaps a little TOO popular at times but that tends to vary from year to year. Like the year I had 2 Kaylees, 2 Katelyns, and 2 Kaylas. I don't hate any of those names but it sure was confusing sometimes in my class that year!

.

She goes by Allison. There are times she tries to make people call her Ally but it doesn't stick :rotfl: I like her name now, but 15 years ago I would have laughed in your face if you'd have told me I would have a dd named Allison

Calup yeah I think this couple meant Caleb but didn't know how to spell it. Hunter is an old name and personally don't like it. So many names r so over used they become hated quickly.

I don't care for some of the names on the list, but my oldest DS is named Tristan, so I obviously disagree with that one. :)

My youngest daughters name is Sophia Nicole. I really thought hard about it and think it is a beautiful name. That said, if I knew it would be so popular, I would have probably picked another name. I didn't want a popular name, but don't want an odd name either. Oh well....not changing it. lol

I am way over Jayden....Braden, Cayden, Layden etc. are a close second in "overdoneness" for me.

I don't like boys' names on girls.

I met my first female Hunter this weekend. Cute kid.

Tiffany, Crystal etc....well, let's just say if they don't grow up to be bubbly blonde teenager types, their names are going to seem odd fOR them. Can you imagine a female lacrosse goalie named Tiffany?

I like the classic names like Michael, Brian, John, Matthew,Caroline, Catherine, Mary etc.

Vaguely OT, but just wondering what y'all think of the name Quinn for a girl...? My DH and I cannot agree on girls names and I'm due in a month, so we need to get on this. :rotfl: It isn't my favourite name, but DH hates all the names that I love (I tend to prefer "girly" names like Cora and Amelia) and this is the one that we come the closest to agreeing on.

Just need some outside opinions because it isn't really my "style" of name and I know that I will get negativity from my family! Our DS is named Callum (and I LOVE that name!) and I know my family was skeptical at first, but it grew on them. Quinn is of the same old Irish style as Callum, but I also worry that "Callum & Quinn" might be a bit of a mouthful!

It all depends where you live, I think. I know that a lot of my friends in hip urban neighborhoods are far more likely to find Scouts and Atticuses at their preschools than Aidans or Mackenzies. For them, the more ancient and obscure the better: Jasper, Octavia, Agatha, Hector.

I suppose that at its root it's the same impulse as people who make up spellings for their names--they want their names to seem unusual (if not unique) in a bid to mark the kid as special.

I actually love some of these older names...though I've always thought that Cornelius or Ernestine are quite a mouthful for a toddler and are, frankly, taking things a bit far. I'm much more fond of the classic names of my historical or literary heroes: Jane, Nina, Henry, Eleanor, Anne, Edward (which makes me resent Stephanie Meyers twenty times over).

In the end, to each his own (and his own culture). A Gertrude wouldn't be odd in the least in Brooklyn, just as a Mackenzie wouldn't be out of place amongst many of my high school classmates' kids. And just like Ramona or Ira might raise a few eyebrows to some from my hometown, I know that most of the names on that list are unappealing to a lot of people in my current neighborhood (not Brooklyn, but culturally similar).

I like the name Quinn, but I love Cora! It has always reminded me of the little girl on the movie Titanic (maybe not a great thing) and I especially think Callum and Cora adorable:thumbsup2

One of my friends named her son Quinn, and the first thing I thought was cute name..for a girl.;)

I know a little girl named Quinn. The name really suits her.

I kind of like the name Finley for a girl, but it didn't go with our last name at all.

Tess is another name I like. Dh wouldn't go for it.

See now when I hear Quinn I think of a male. It just sounds masculine to me.

Quinn I think 'medicine woman' and I never watched that show.

Tess I think is pretty but I also think 'of the D'Urburvilles' and no one wants that association.

Just as you associate names with some person you know or knew, the literary or pop culture associations exist. Though with people apparently unable to spell 'Michael' maybe worrying about literary associations is ... passe.
