Disney Destiny Update

I'm sure it will be fantastic, but this is one ship I'll probably skip out on. Not a fan of the Marvel heavy decor, including Spiderman on the stern.

I'm not mad at Disney for going that route but it definitely isn't my style. And that's okay!
I hated the Wish, but this one looks more interesting to me as far as theming. Maybe when prices come down I'll give it go. The fact it's out of FLL is a big plus. It's such an easy port to embark out of.

On our Disney Fantasy cruise (14 N) there was a repeat of Aladdin in Disney’s Believe, but other than the 2 shows, I didn’t encounter anything else Aladdin related. I am not a fan of Genie, but the one on our cruise was SO good.

Thats good. Subtle theming is jist another term for poor theming.
I fully disagree. Not everybody likes to be hit over the head with Disney IP.

Disney actually used to do this really well at the resorts where the theme was consistent like Dixie Landing, but it only had subtle touches of Disney IP.

I would say the Classic ships are incredibly well themed, but the Disney touches are a lot more subtle and that’s kind of nice.

A lot of people confuse theming and decor.

Theming: decorating a room (or an area in a park) in a way that takes you into a different place/time (the theme) and helps you pretend to be there.

Decor: putting up nice pictures of nice things and characters.

The Star Wars Hotel at WDW was the epitome of a themed hotel. The new ships are mainly just decorated. Having a picture of Tiana above your bed does not make the room Tiana themed. Tiana can’t even be a theme, certain places in her movie can be though. So you could have a bayou themed room with shelves looking like they were made out of branches, a carpet that looks like grass, fireflies in the ceiling etc.

Theme also can be totally independent of any characters or movies, think the World Showcase pavilions in Epcot - or the four original ships that are themed to the theme classic ocean liner.

I am sure this has been mentioned in other threads. When is it supposed to go into service?

LAX

In 4 cruises I've only seen a couple of the shows. I can't even remember which they were. I would feel like I were getting less value if I had to sit through a show that I have no interest in.
So why disney cruise then? You pay double the prices of other cruises with worse itineraries. What does dcl do so well that is worth double the price and worse itineraries if not for the entertainment.

Agree on the cabins regarding painting just being decor. But many of the bars, restaurants, kids clubs are properly themed on the newer ships unlike the older ships.

Its the reason why so many love the Wish class but are a bit meh about the older ships.

My comment was meant more general: a Mickey or Elsa thrown in something doesn’t make it themed. Annoys me when people use the term that way. The worst is something like a „Frozen themed cupcake“ that is a vanilla cupcake with snowflake sprinkles and a chocolate plate with Olaf printed on it…

Yes, some of the bars are heavily themed in this regard. But the question is: do you want the ship have a cohesive theme or every venue have a different one? I think they did a better job with the Treasure there where the cohesive theme of Adventure works better. Even the Destiny seems better than the Wish which has more of a „popular current IP“ theme to it than anything else.

I've heard good things about FLL. The only thing is that I'd have to drive by PC to get to FLL, which to me seems kind of silly.

I'm not the person you're replying to/asking the question of, but I'll chime in. The service. I always feel so welcome on a Disney cruise, no matter who I'm interacting with or when. To me, that's worth the money. Concierge is even more amazing.

Also, I sometimes skip the shows if I've seen them recently, especially if there's something else going on at the same time (usually trivia). I've been on the Fantasy several times in the past few years, and while I love the shows, I don't always feel the need to see all of them each sailing if I've just seen them.

Some of the shows just aren't good. I am not a fan of Little Mermaid on the Wish, for example. Some of them are absolutely fantastic, though.
