Good morning to everyone! So how many days till the cruise are we now?
Things have been a bit quiet around here. I haven't had a chance to peek for a few days and it was cake to catch up!
I've been reading this book "Take Your Kids to Europe". It's very interesting although it's geared more for long European stays. It makes me want to take months off of work instead of the three weeks I'm taking now! Oh well, someone has to pay the bills...
The book comes up with some strategies to get your kids involved before the cruise. They had some great ideas both for teens and younger children. I liked their strategies for getting the kids involved in the trip BEFORE you leave. They suggested purchasing a world map and hanging it up in a hallway or play area. They used pushpins to show where they were going. If you are going to a museum (like the Vatican Museum), they suggested getting a picture book from there. Let the kids go through and pick out pictures they like - then have a "treasure hunt" in the Museum to find those pictures. Just make sure those pictures are on the route you are taking. We're also going to Paris for a week afterwards, so this'll come in handy for the Louvre.
An idea for little kids - get pictures of the various sites you will be visiting (Roman Colosseum, palace at Monaco, La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona) then make "memory cards" from the pictures. It gets them so much more excited in advance. Christina is just dying to see the Eiffel tower in Paris. She screams EIFFEL TOWER whenever she sees it on the TV.
In the back of the Europe book there is also a section called "the totally biased guide to italy, spain, greece, gibraltar, and morocco". It does talk about some of the places that we will see and which ones are good for kids.
And my own idea - we've been watching two movies "Cheetah Girls 2" and "The Lizzy McGuire Movie". Cheetah Girls 2 is set in Barcelona. The dragon that you see on the steps in one of the scenes is in Park Guell! If you get the pop-up edition it explains quite a lot. The Lizzy McGuire Movie is set in Rome. In just the first 30 minutes you'll see some major sites like the Colosseum and Trevi fountain.
Happy Saturday everyone!
