Wait, am I reading this right... the toga party is at the wine tasting/DIS gathering in the Roy suite???

Wouldn't it make sense to have it after we leave one of the Italian ports?:confused3

It would make sense- BUT we are leaving really, really late on the night we leave Rome. It will be a fun way to break the ice at the Roy party- how can you maintain your personal boundaries, when you are wearing a sheet? There is also the reference to the "drink of the Gods" with the wine tasting. Besides, Ron is the toga master!! :woohoo:

Good morning to everyone! So how many days till the cruise are we now?

Things have been a bit quiet around here. I haven't had a chance to peek for a few days and it was cake to catch up!

I've been reading this book "Take Your Kids to Europe". It's very interesting although it's geared more for long European stays. It makes me want to take months off of work instead of the three weeks I'm taking now! Oh well, someone has to pay the bills...

The book comes up with some strategies to get your kids involved before the cruise. They had some great ideas both for teens and younger children. I liked their strategies for getting the kids involved in the trip BEFORE you leave. They suggested purchasing a world map and hanging it up in a hallway or play area. They used pushpins to show where they were going. If you are going to a museum (like the Vatican Museum), they suggested getting a picture book from there. Let the kids go through and pick out pictures they like - then have a "treasure hunt" in the Museum to find those pictures. Just make sure those pictures are on the route you are taking. We're also going to Paris for a week afterwards, so this'll come in handy for the Louvre.

An idea for little kids - get pictures of the various sites you will be visiting (Roman Colosseum, palace at Monaco, La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona) then make "memory cards" from the pictures. It gets them so much more excited in advance. Christina is just dying to see the Eiffel tower in Paris. She screams EIFFEL TOWER whenever she sees it on the TV.

In the back of the Europe book there is also a section called "the totally biased guide to italy, spain, greece, gibraltar, and morocco". It does talk about some of the places that we will see and which ones are good for kids.

And my own idea - we've been watching two movies "Cheetah Girls 2" and "The Lizzy McGuire Movie". Cheetah Girls 2 is set in Barcelona. The dragon that you see on the steps in one of the scenes is in Park Guell! If you get the pop-up edition it explains quite a lot. The Lizzy McGuire Movie is set in Rome. In just the first 30 minutes you'll see some major sites like the Colosseum and Trevi fountain.

Happy Saturday everyone!

Sue

:cheer2:  :dance3: :woohoo:

it is hard for me to believe that it was only a week ago that I was scrambling to make decisions on excursions in time for booking in the middle of the night (which I slept right thru and didn't do until 6:30am - lol). A lot has happened this week.

Sue, I've been doing all of that too! Zoe has been doing flash cards of major sites and the basic language phrases too. We are watching Roman Holiday right now. Dora around the world has been a big influences this year (of course, now Zoe thinks we are going to the wall of China and Russia!) We have about 10 different maps we've been working off of to prep. And we've been doing foods from different places -mostly pictures and talking about what we will have when we get there.

YIP ;) Any word from DCL??
I've given up that route- I don't have time to argue. I am having a great time planning the Florence/Pisa shore excursion and the dive site for Olbia, Nice, and Marsielle. I figured if I was going to have my gear- I should get a look at what these places look like from the bottom side as well. We are going to try and leave ourselves with enough time to dive and wonder around, eat, and lounge. Especially on the tail end of the trip, when we will all be tired.

Christina's been watching Dora too! She always yells at me to come over so I can watch the globe. She then points out where everything is and what the landmarks are.

What language phrases are you teeching Zoe?

Sue, Little Einsteins has also been a big help about discussing travel.

Mostly Hello, goodbye, (Mickey's name), the names of each place, recognizing the maps, puzzles of the maps, colors, numbers and street signs if we can find them.

awefully quiet today...

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

That's better.

:woohoo:

Hello all! I just got caught up on the thread (I was in St. louis on a work conferance) and am very excited about the toga party! We will have to get working on our togas! Woo-Hoo!:cool1:

We may not be able to make it to the 5pm lanyard pass out/meet and greet on sailaway day. Our Barcelona Excursion gets back anywhere from 445pm-515pm. We will try to run up and say "hello" :flower3: to you all!

Quick question for you all: We booked air through DCL for security purposes...in case our flight got late. We have a soecific flight that we have been eyeing and our TA told us that we can pay extra $$ to secure a specific flight through DCL. Has anyone ever heard of this or done this before? How much money are they generally expecting? Our TA told us she sent an email request to DCL on Monday and we haven't heard back from her. Any experiences/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
