Is there a specific treat Hawaii is known for?

Malasada's from Leonards, but they have to be eaten pretty quickly! My daughter was disappointed that her flight was so delayed that Leonards was closed when we flew back on Sunday. LOL We always bring home Macadamia nuts in various flavours.

I don't think I've gotten out of the parking lot before I've at least started on my Malasada Custard please, but knock off some of the outside sugar

(A Malasada is a form of Portugese doughnut, usually filled with a custard - vanilla, chocolate, guava... Dipped in granulated sugar when hot. Best eaten right after frying, as many people would eat their Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Leonard's is the go-to bakery; they also have mobile kitchens around the island of Oahu.)

Macadamia nuts and macadamia nut candies (ie, chocolate coated). Also coffee, but that's just not as easy to enjoy on the spot - rather dry in the mouth.

Yes, mac nuts for sure, plus either chocolate covered or the Hershey's mac nut kisses. We also bring coffee, because my parents are friends with someone who owns a coffee farm in Kona. For kids we also bring some other treats, but they are more obscure.

P.S. In Hawaii we consume more spam per year than the rest of the other 49 states COMBINED! Hahaha. We don't necessarily eat a lot of it, but it does taste yummy when you fry it up really well and make it into musubis!

I love Leonard's! The haupia are my fave (the ones with coconut). We have many dessert specialties like cocoa puffs, sweet potato crumpets, and of course shave ice! We like food!

We always go to Matsumoto's on the north shore and stop at Dole whip on the way back.

You're so lucky to live there. We get there a couple of times a year to visit friends and family.

I guess then it was a hang over from the war and convenient store cupboard meats weren't available plus no fridge's in most UK houses back then. I actually loved it but I rather think I wouldn't eat it today. Need to have a look on the tin.

You are coming by Houston at a great time, as the rodeo is in town the first three weeks of March. We enjoy seeing all of the cowboys in town since we are newcomers.

Small world! Where does your son live? A good place to have a career. One out of every three jobs created last year where in TX!

Greg graduated from Rice so Houston was always on his radar, and married a Louisiana gal! Last winter they lived in Pittsburg. This winter was a great one to have missed!

I am not sure what area he is in, but it's near a walkway that leads downtown. They love the area, it is one that is being reconstructed, old homes modified for modern conveniences. They have a huge pecan tree in their front yard, now to figure out how to keep the squirrels away!

What is the earliest that people will start packing for the cruise?

We have started to gather sun tan lotion, etc and put it in a dedicated area. But I am getting so excited I am already thinking about which clothes I'll bring.

Anyone else a planner?

I'm definitely a planner but when it comes to packing, we don't typically start until *maybe* the week before we leave.

I grew up in a family with 3 brothers and a sister. My parents were working class and we lived paycheck to paycheck. Fried spam was a frequent dinner entree meat.

FE # 2 has closed, and the list has been sent to both group 1 and group 2. It has 21 rooms because 19&20 signed up within seconds of each other! As before, if you want in on group 3, please fill the form out again. I will lock the group again at 20 staterooms, and start the next group when #3 closes.

Edit: group 3 already has 6 rooms.

I signed up but want to make sure we made it on the list. IS there a way to check?

Well I can honestly say that I have never tried spam.

We were in Hawaii once about 5 years ago. Visited Oahu and Big Island. We had shaved ice from Matsumoto. Loved it. I remember there being little fruity taffy like candies we found at a gas station. I don't recall ever seeing them anyplace other than Hawaii. We went to a macadamia nut farm tour on the Big Island.

I am a huge planner and I like thinking about what I'll pack early on. Right now I am thinking about what I'll pack for the kids and I for our trip to Aulani for their spring break. Which I guess is also preparing for this trip since I'm sure I'll be packing the same warm weather clothing!

I am not an early packer. Pre-kids DH and I would pack the night before all our vacations. Now with the kids waiting caused anxiety and arguments because I was packing myself and the boys. DH just packed himself. Now my goal is to have the boys packed the weekend before we leave. I try to have myself packed at least two days before. DH is still packing at 3 AM the morning we leave.

I'm thinking the easter bunny will be bringing a lot of cruise essentials this year: sunglasses, new sandals, new swimsuit, sunblock, etc. My mom is getting both boys Disney gift cards for Easter. Hoping the in-laws will do the same. It saves us from buying souvenirs if the boys have their own money to spend.

Mr. Muush has big time problems with sea sickness so Scopolamine is a must for him (me too if water is very rough). In Korea it is over the counter. And dirt cheap. So I asked a friend who lives there to send me 'some'. Just got it in the mail! 10 boxes with 2 patches in each box. 60 days worth. He needs 30 days worth for this years cruise plans so I guess I need to book some 2015 cruises before they expire!

Did I tell you we love to cruise???

I really cannot stand spam - never have been able to stomach it. Growing up, anytime I said I didn't like it, my parents would get very angry and start lecturing me about how "people would have DIED during the war if it hadn't have been for SPAM!" I could say almost any cuss word in the book and never get the reaction I did out of them for saying I don't like spam.


My favorite treat from Hawaii is a Mai Tai.

My favorite souvenir from Hawaii would be Kona coffee! Have to have the French Press at Kona Cafe every so often!

Wow, what a Disney-filled Spring! We would love to visit Aulani, but the flight times are too long for our kids at this age. Have a great time!

We've done disney cruises along with both parks in the last two years, and everyone is loving it. We feel very blessed.

I hope to hear from others with older kids that they don't grow out of it. I know the prices go up since we will be starting school and lose the flexibility on travel dates, but if it is something everyone enjoys we hope to continue it.

The cruise that you are going on (Med) is on my bucket list.
Where do you fly to catch that cruise? Have you cruised on Princess before?

We are going on a Christmas/New Years Eve cruise 12/21-1/4 (14 night) on the beautiful Celebrity Eclipse.
We did the same cruise in 12/2012 and loved it.

What are some of the favorite or most memorable FE gifts you've received? I know there are separate threads on this, but thought I would ask this group.

My kids would say anything that glows, pins that can be used for trading, Lego sets & crafts, and candy/snacks.

My wife and I enjoy the personal and handmade gifts like CDs with Disney music, bookmarks, magnets, and just taking part in the FE!

So, what brings a smile to your face when you find it in your FE?
