Marathon Weekend 2017!

With Dopey already taking up a large number of the total 5k and 10k entries adding any type of challenge involving those two races would basically eliminate individual entries all together.

I always forget your first point, thanks for the reminder. I guess I should just suck it up and sign up for Dopey next time to save myself the hassle of doing three separate registrations!

RunDisney will be posting updates on social media.

They're also saying they'll text us updates if we've signed up for runner tracking.

Thanks. I've run two Fulls in freezing cold - including the 33 degree ice in 2010? But I am doing the Half on Saturday... and while RAIN is just a pain...

All the forecasts are showing Thunderstorms. And we know the ONE thing that can cancel a race is... Lightning.

So, fingers crossed. I live in South Florida so I am very very used to running with the THREAT of lightning / thunderstorms... virtually every day from May thru September.

Hope we avoid it tomorrow!

Or what if (I know this will be a very unpopular idea), Dopey went away (NOOO!!!), and they changed the challenge to a 5k, 10k, and half for those who don't want to run a marathon, and then there is still Goofy for the challenge of the half and full. If people want to run all four races, they choose which challenge medal they want and then add on the additional races.

Now I will go duck and cover. :)

I do wonder what RD will do if this threat of storms does not go away. They really can't delay things due to where the course runs. Have a feeling it's all or nothing. Question becomes when do they make that decision. We all know busses start running in the 3am hour, so they really can't start bussing people to a location with no proper shelter.

This is not running specific information, but we went to HS last night and stayed for the Star Wars fireworks. If you have not seen this show, I would highly recommend it! I am not a Star Wars person, but I loved it. Plus, the show starts at 7:45 and is over just before 8:00. The early start time allowed us to stay until the end and get in bed at a normal hour (back at our hotel before 8:30). As an aside, HS was not crawling with people... very refreshing!

Saw a squirrel jump on a lady on the boardwalk, I think she was trying to rescue it from being trampled and got a surprise.

I agree. I'm sending positive, storm-free vibes to all the runners, but the weather forecast is a bummer. Unlike Wine and Dine 2015, bussing people to the start if it's storming or storms are around is not an option since there are no nearby buildings like at ESPN. And if the race is delayed, a course shortening really isn't easy for this route either like it was for that race. I really hope all lightning stays away for you guys!

Think W&D a few years back ... they'll shorten and reroute the race, shorten the corral wait times, etc ... if there's a window to fit it in between storms.

Cancellation will be a last resort.

I think this may be an unpopular opinion from the initial impressions after they released pictures of the medals, but the 10k medal is pretty rad in person.
I agree. I wasn't impressed by the teaser pictures they released but it's a great medal. I like the copper-like finish.

I was wondering this too. With Wine & Dine getting shortened last year, they were at ESPN and could go right inside. Pretty sure there isn't a structure near the Epcot parking lot that could hold all 26K of us.

I really need to rant about the bus service this year. Two days in a row the driver has no clue where to drop us off at the resort! After the 5k, the driver just randomly stopped at the far end of the parking lot in POFQ. This morning, the driver entered POFQ but blew right past it and headed to Riverside. I got off there and had breakfast before walking back to POFQ for a much-needed shower. I just wanted the heck off that bus! I really feel bad for these poor drivers who are obviously not being provided with any guidance whatsoever. Get it together Run Disney! OK, I feel better now.

Agree with this. We are at POR. Yesterday the driver went to a lot in POFQ where the bus clearly had no place being. It was a tight fit in places. Every other time the POFQ only gets dropped at the main building. They are then supposed to go around the loop at POR.

We discussed this, this morning. I'm guessing we would have to go inside Epcot. Likely innoventions, and other future world buildings.

Off the topic of the weather who else saw the guy in the exoskeleton this morning? I passed him heading to go around the front of Spaceship Earth and he was going a fairly steady pace all things considered.

Loving the Up to the minute posts! Flying to Disney Sunday for a week. Already booked at the Contemporary for next year Dopey.

Would love to hear about logistics of staying at the Contemp. Seems an easy mono ride to start right?
I stayed there for my first Glass Slipper. I thought it would be super convenient, but it was just okay. The positive is that you don't really have to wait in line to get on. The down side is that you do have to change trains at TTC to get to Epcot, and then to get home, you have to hike all the way back to Epcot station and then switch trains again, which by that time, MK is open (for the half anyway) and you do wait in line, which when all you want to do is sit down isn't so great. Would recommend Monorail going to race and bus coming back.
