Marathon Weekend 2017!

Crowds have been crazy for the last week. When we drove down last Wednesday the traffic was terrible and it was a sign of things to come. Everyone, and I mean everyone, decided that they did not need to go to work and their kids didn't need to go to school the week after New Year. I've had a great time, but I would never do a parks before marathon trip again.

Agree. I'm already changing around plans for next year.

Since the marathon didn't officially sell out, are they still selling registrations at the Expo like they did for Avengers in Disneyland?

I meant this week. My niece and nephew had school restart on Wednesday but they stayed down here; because what's three days for a kindergartner and second grader? A lot of people had that same plan. We knew it would be bad last week but it has not died down this week.

Arrived at MK and raced to fastpass for space mountain that expired at 10:55 and made it by 2 minutes. Managed to ride Space Mountain twice, Space Ranger Spin twice, Splash Mountain twice, Little Mermaid, Thunder Mountain, and a few others before leaving at ~6:30. It was packed but possible to have a pretty full day.

There's been a lot of discussion on the rumors and news board about crowds lately and when kids are going back to school. Several have chimed in and said they don't go back until the 9th. I find that really long but every school is different. Schools around where I live went back the 3rd.

We live outside of Jax and my kids just went back today after 3 weeks off. I feel like it's kinda pointless to have them go back these 2 days and could see a lot of parents letting their kids skip them.

That would make sense too. I just saw someone on another thread say in Canada they got off the 23rd and don't go back until the 9th.

Don't know about my local schools but I have a friend who works as school bus driver in northern Alabama who started back today.

Had a good full day at Animal Kingdom.

It's funny, my wife, daughter and I were walking through China at Epcot in our 5k shirts and medals and some guy said, "Runners, go home!" as we passed by. Guess it goes both ways!

Back in hotel. Good news is I didn't throw away my gear check bag by accident! Now I just got to get my stuff together so I am in bed much earlier tonight.

It's funny, my wife, daughter and I were walking through China at Epcot in our 5k shirts and medals and some guy said, "Runners, go home!" as we passed by. Guess it goes both ways!

I went to the expo today to get my bib and race shirt and also went to Epcot to see how many runners were at the park.I didn't see the huge numbers of runners I was expecting,at least there weren't that many wearing race shirts or something to give away they were here for race weekend.Obviously the later it gets in the weekend the more that start arriving for the half,the full and Goofy,but at least right now I didnt feel the parks were overwhelmed by runners.

Palm Beach & Broward County public schools are still closed for vacation. We go back on January 9th.

I know whoever it was probably didn't mean it in a mean way. But I sometimes wish people realized it's just as much our vacation time as it is there's (it seems like I always hear some complaining about us). It's our vacation time too. This is a once a year trip for me so I do the parks during the races.
