Maclaren Strollers - How Do You Lock Yours?

We took our double Mac last year and never worried about it. I did tie some ribbons on it to make it recognizable to us and to those who might have a similar one. Maybe I'm naive, but I figure if someone takes it, it's most likely because of an honest mistake. We didn't leave anything we couldn't live without or that was expensive in the stroller when it was unattended, just a diaper bag. If the stroller had disappeared, we would have just bought a couple of umbrella strollers to get us through and continued to enjoy our vacation. We looked at it like this, if losing the Maclaren would be devastating to us and would ruin our vacation, we wouldn't take it.

I just got a Maclaren Quest for Christmas....specifically for our Disney trip. We plan on making a fairly large sign w/ our last name on it, laminating it and then tying it to the stroller w/ zip ties. I will also probably hang something else on it ( I like the lei idea :) ) I really hope this will deter thiefs from it. I can't picture us dealing w/ a lock constantly...or dealing w/ one of those cheap Wal-Mart strollers for that matter! We'll use the stroller at Disney more than ever, I'd rather us be comfortable and our baby.

I'm doing something similar, I have bought 2 of the mediums sized canvas tote bags and on the outside I am going to paint our names on the side of the bag.. I am going to attach it to the stroller by putting gromets (metal rings) on the 4 corners of the totebag and then ziptiie it to the stroller. That way it is personalized, hard to remove without a knife, and I will have a little extra storage for pullups or water bottles:cool1:

Love this idea, now I just have to figure out how to implement it! Thanks for sharing!

:thumbsup2 For multiple WDW trips, we brought a Maclaren double-stroller ($$$$$) (Now, we get to bring a single stroller :cool1: ). I never worried about it being stolen. Bringing it was a chance I took. I've heard more stories of the Disney-rented strollers being taken than people's personal strollers. Also, the instances where people "think" their stroller was taken, it was probably moved by a CM. We never had any problems. Like mentioned, the CMs DO move the strollers around a lot. So, put something on it to recognize in a crowd of strollers. Besides that, if you are that worried about it getting stolen LEAVE IT AT HOME and rent a Disney stroller or bring one you don't mind being lost/stolen! This is your vacation and you don't want to be stressing on the rides worrying about your stroller. :goodvibes

I know its not the most alluring or expensive, but the act that there are so many Maclarens make it more easier to steal...since it will get lost in the "sea of Maclarens."

Truthfully, I really wouldn't worry too much about it. There are hundreds of Maclaren strollers in the parks every day, so don't worry about it being the most alluring stroller to steal. As long as you don't leave stuff in it, don't worry about it. I always mark mine in some way, to make it more recognizable, and have never had an issue.

Thanks All!

I know that stroller theft is rare. It's just that those that have had a stroller taken are going to post about it. Where as the majority who havent dealt with a theft would not post.

I'll probably come up with something to make it stick out and easier to find. As well as make sure my contact information is on it.

The lock to prevent it from folding is something I will also consider. I just think it would be a pain to lock the wheels or whatever after every time you leave the stroller for a ride, etc. I may bring a lock for things like dinners and such.

Took a new single and a new double. 9 days, no problems. Saw tons and tons of Macs (probably the most common brand there). Odds are you will be fine without the hassle of locking. You stop and go so many times a day you could easily spend a lot of time on this.

I took my canopy to a local monogram shop today. I am having it monogrammed "Smith's Honey Pot"...It will cost less than 10 dollars to have it monogrammed and I will feel better. I will post a picture when I get it back in a few days. I have the Valco Buggster.. paid 300 bucks for it and would at least like to have it for the 10 days we are there! :)

I would LOVE to see a picture of this if you wouldn't mind. I am trying to be a copy cat! lol

One of the best identifying markers I've ever heard of was a fake poopy diaper in a plastic grocery bag tied to the handle :rotfl2:

That wasn't fake, we just didn't want to bother looking for a trash can, as our touring plan was very strict and didn't allow for any time to look for one, as we were making the rounds in Fantasyland before the crowds hit.

:rotfl2:

(I am joking)

with our Volo. I saw a thread on the Families board about monogramming the canopy. I took the canopy (the day before we left) and had our last name embroidered in 2 inch high, RED letters (the stroller is light gray). It was sooo easy to spot!

I also thought about taking a cheap bike lock to weave in the seat of the stroller through each side - doesn't lock it onto anything but makes it very difficult to put a child in the seat!
