We had our own weird things going on when I was growing up, but I don't recall anyone yelling those things in class. I think that is what is driving teachers to these sort of punishments because it is disruptive to the learning environment and it can be hard to steer kids back to being focused.

No one was yelling sweeeeet or sooo randuuuuummm (our phrase growing up) incessantly during class. I can see teachers frustration.

I think I'd have gone for the free publicity, hoping the kids would be posting these and bringing in more business. Or maybe order #67 gets a coupon for 67 cents off your next order.

Nothing works better than ignoring the nonsense since they are seeking attention. If ignoring them becomes too challenging, I give them hard word problems using 6 and 7. That shuts them down really quickly.
