Poohgirl said:"It [dharma] is, so to speak, the essential nature of a being, comprising the sum of its particular qualities or characteristics, and determining, by virtue of the tendencies or dispositions it implies, the manner in which this being will conduct itself, either in a general way or in relation to each particular circumstance. The same idea may be applied, not only to a single being, but also to an organized collectivity, to a species, to all the beings included in a cosmic cycle or state of existence, or even to the whole order of the Universe; it then, at one level or another, signifies conformity with the essential nature of beings "
Ok, so IF I'm understanding this correctly, dharma is basically how a person/people act everyday. It can also be how they act in a situation that isn't necessarily "everyday." So, I take that to mean that whoever is on the island is being watched to see how they act.
I wonder, though, if they started the whole 'watching' of those on the island back in the 70's/80's b/c the hatch is pretty dated. Maybe those on the island were made sick on purpose to see what would happen.
If Desmond is part of the whole "dharma" thing, did whoever enlisted him to go into the hatch tell him that those on the island were infected and that's why quarantine is written on the hatch lid? (sorry for the run-on sentence!)
But why do the others and Desmond (possibly)all want Walt?![]()
Wow, this post took me 20 min to write b/c I kept confusing myself.
and who knows if that symbol is even the "dharma" thing?
Ooh you're right, good catch!phorsenuf said:Hmmmm....do those black lines (on the hatch logo) and they way they are set up remind anyone else of the way stadium seating is set up?
Jack and Desmond were running in a stadium.
Am I reading too much into this now? LOL

As I understand it, the literal meaning is protection, but the word "dharma" is also used to describe day-to-day life.Originally Posted by phorsenuf

BWVDenise said:Michael drew a card for Walt when he was little that had two snow men on it with that riddle and Hurley said it on the beach before. The whole riddle is " What did one snowman say to the other snowman?" Do you smell carrots?
The plot thickens

A. I'm having a meltdown!
Uh oh...nuclear meltdown? When the countdown finishes...Maybe I am just reaching...LOL! This show is making me lose it!
Could the "sickness" be associated with radiation?

The other 2 answers I've heard are: "Do you smell carrots?" and "Drop your pants, the snowblower is coming". (Apologies if that's not really DIS friendly).
But I think yours may be more on target!
