Lastly, for Desmonds smoothie - I saw red things covered in syrup - looked like Marachino cherries. Definately in the panty.

:scratchin

I found this on another website:

I don't think the I Ching has anything to do with it, but to me the animal looks like a snake maybe too.

"It [dharma] is, so to speak, the essential nature of a being, comprising the sum of its particular qualities or characteristics, and determining, by virtue of the tendencies or dispositions it implies, the manner in which this being will conduct itself, either in a general way or in relation to each particular circumstance. The same idea may be applied, not only to a single being, but also to an organized collectivity, to a species, to all the beings included in a cosmic cycle or state of existence, or even to the whole order of the Universe; it then, at one level or another, signifies conformity with the essential nature of beings…"

Ok, so IF I'm understanding this correctly, dharma is basically how a person/people act everyday. It can also be how they act in a situation that isn't necessarily "everyday." So, I take that to mean that whoever is on the island is being watched to see how they act.
I wonder, though, if they started the whole 'watching' of those on the island back in the 70's/80's b/c the hatch is pretty dated. Maybe those on the island were made sick on purpose to see what would happen.
If Desmond is part of the whole "dharma" thing, did whoever enlisted him to go into the hatch tell him that those on the island were infected and that's why quarantine is written on the hatch lid? (sorry for the run-on sentence!)
But why do the others and Desmond (possibly)all want Walt? :confused3

Wow, this post took me 20 min to write b/c I kept confusing myself. :teeth:
and who knows if that symbol is even the "dharma" thing?

Hmmmm....do those black lines (on the hatch logo) and they way they are set up remind anyone else of the way stadium seating is set up?

Jack and Desmond were running in a stadium.

Am I reading too much into this now? LOL

I did a search and found that the literal meaning of the word "dharma" is "protection."

Ooh you're right, good catch!

Oh thanks a LOT!! I confused myself and have a headache for nothing!! :rotfl:

Perhaps it has something to do with a magnetic force. Remeber how when Jack got down the hatch and he was looking around and at one point the key around his neck seemed to move toward some force?

That's actually not a bad idea. Perhaps the magnet had the ability to interefere with the planes navigation system.

However, with Desmond and Jack knowing each other and everyone have some apparent connection, I'm starting to believe that someone may have found a way to CAUSE the plane to crash...it's just too random.

No, your explanation was good. :teeth: As I understand it, the literal meaning is protection, but the word "dharma" is also used to describe day-to-day life.

So the problem now is to figure out which one applies in this case. Or maybe they both do!

Let's talk about the stadium for a second...since someone brought up that interesting connection between the stadium and the logo shape.

Question: How do people gain access to run around a stadium anyway? (Just curious...not leading into anything in the show.)

Show question: When Jack was in Sara's recovery room after his run, all down on himself before she woke, he said something I couldn't hear because DH was blabbing his mouth. When sara woke and told him he stunk and he said he was running, and she said that he must have run really far (or a lot) by the way he smelled...Jack replied to her that he was doing a [BLANK]. She asked what a [BLANK] was. And he replied that it is when someone runs every single step in a stadium.

Does anyone know what that term he used was? I wonder its significance? (Now that we all know EVERYTHING has significance.)

Q. What did one snowman say to the other?
A. I'm having a meltdown!

Uh oh...nuclear meltdown? When the countdown finishes...Maybe I am just reaching...LOL! This show is making me lose it!

Could the "sickness" be associated with radiation?

I have to give credit where credit is due (yes, I was called out on it). This was my DS's theory.

Sorry T!

Michael drew a card for Walt when he was little that had two snow men on it with that riddle and Hurley said it on the beach before. The whole riddle is " What did one snowman say to the other snowman?" Do you smell carrots?

The plot thickens

What episode what that card from?

Oooh, that's a good one!
The other 2 answers I've heard are: "Do you smell carrots?" and "Drop your pants, the snowblower is coming". (Apologies if that's not really DIS friendly).
But I think yours may be more on target!

Well I can't really take too much credit...LOL. Most of my "theories" are things I've gotten from other boards/sites that I try and hash out.

Won't it be nice in a few years when we know the truth?

Does anyone else think the critter on the logo looks more like the Lock Ness Monster?

I have nothing of value to add at the moment. Has anyone gone and checked if the polar bear or the smoke thing from last season had symbols on it?

All I'm thinking now is land of misfit toys.

If this is a no spoiler thread how can we discuss what is happening with the current series and how can we discuss theories cause if we mentioned what happened in the episode isnt that a spoiler if someone reads it but hasnt seent the episode....I'm lost

I'd like to know too, cause the only one I remember is the one he drew when he was in the hospital, for Walt's birthday. But that card (if memory serves me correctly) was a joke about something black and white and red all over, and the punchline was "a penguin with a sunburn".

Am I remembering that correctly or am I going nuts?

Either is a possibility, lol.
