BREAKING: Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Reopening Date Announced - APRIL 8th!

We just got word from Star Command: our mission is ready. Join Buzz Lightyear beginning April 8 at Magic Kingdom Park to save the galaxy from the evil emperor Zurg on this recharged attraction.

After boarding your enhanced ride vehicle, you’ll meet Buddy, a new support bot at Star Command, who will help you train with some target practice before heading out on your mission. From interactive targets that will now react and light up when hit, to new hand-held blasters that will include an always-on laser and new lighting, sound and vibration effects, Buddy has full confidence you’ll succeed.

When it reopens, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will feature a number of upgrades:

• Brand New Scene – As their adventure begins, guests will now be greeted by an all-new character! As a support-bot, Buddy makes sure departing Space Rangers are fully prepared for their mission, enthusiastically providing encouragement, final system checks on their Star Cruisers and a chance to hone their blaster aim.
• All-New Targets – The static Z targets found in the attraction today will be upgraded with new technology that will allow them to react and light up when hit. It also opens the door for a few other ideas Imagineers have in mind.
• Brand New Ride Vehicles – Star cruisers will also receive a face lift with a new design inspired by the colors of Buzz Lightyear and Star Command. Each enhanced vehicle will also now come equipped with video monitors that provide real-time scoring updates and other exciting features.
• Handheld Blasters – Each ride vehicle will now include handheld blasters for better aim, helping guests to score even more points. These new blasters will be perfect for younger riders, allowing them to participate more in the experience.
  
  And, if you’ve ever wondered where you’re aiming (don’t worry, you’re not alone), these enhanced blasters will now include an always-on laser and come in two different colors per star cruiser, in addition to new lighting, sound and vibration effects, so players know where they’re aiming throughout the mission.

I'm so happy this is opening in April!! We're arriving in late May, so hopefully some of the "newness" will have worn off and the bloggers/vloggers, locals, APs, etc. will have had enough time to try it out. That will (hopefully) mean that we might be able to get LL for it *and* people will have posted tips and tricks for it. We usually get in several rounds of this ride on our trips but I'll be happy with 1...or 2 this time. I know there will still be a high demand for it when we're there. I'm not as optimistic about Soarin' since it opens the week we're there. I foresee us getting in line right before closing one night because I think LL will be extremely difficult to get.

Earlier this morning, we brought you the exciting news that Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will officially reopen on April 8 at Magic Kingdom.

When guests once again set off for an intergalactic battle against the evil Emperor Zurg, they will discover that Space Ranger Spin has received numerous upgrades.

Among the enhancements are updated Star Cruisers, improved blasters that can be removed from their holsters, and always-on lasers.

A New Scene and Signature Character​

Additionally, the attraction will debut a new opening scene featuring Buddy, a brand-new character, as well as an upgraded Hyperspace scene.

Star Command’s top minds have added a series of enhancements, including handheld blasters for more freedom of movement, additional interactive targets, scores that go lightyears beyond what you can imagine, and Buddy—our newest crew member,” the new attraction description reads.

Imagineers Are Testing the Attraction​

With just weeks to go until Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin officially reopens, Walt Disney Imagineering has shared a new look inside the updated attraction.

In the video, a software engineer takes fans through the updated attraction, showing off the upgraded blasters and targets.

Currently, the project team is ironing out technical bugs and taking in Imagineers’ feedback before the attraction officially reopens.

Based on what we can see, the upgraded gameplay looks amazing.

Overall, it seems like Space Ranger Spin will be an exponentially better experience when it reopens next month.

Disney Reveals Updated Buzz Lightyear Onride Photo with Detailed Scoring​

The new PhotoPass image features a Space Ranger-themed layout with the mission site listed as "Gamma Quadrant" and the mission date of 04.08.26.

Each rider's score is displayed with their Space Ranger rank, total targets hit, and special targets hit. The photo shows the ranks "Astro Aviator" and "Planetary Pilot" along with individual scoring statistics.

The image highlights the new handheld blasters and redesigned vehicles with Star Command styling that are part of the refurbishment.

So excited this will be open again for our trip in July. It wasn't open last August and my nephew was pretty bummed that it was closed. My 72yo mom and I love this attraction! Now, can we PLEASE get BTMRR reopened?!!!!

Today's announcements said early May reopening but still didn't give a date. We're going May 6-12, I hope early May means earlier than that!

Lightning Lane Touchpoints Installed for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom

Has anyone heard or noticed, are the cars still rotated by someone in the vehicle or, is this now automated? I'd like it to be automated but also understand this would be a big change.

I watched the preview video yesterday and it *looks* like there is still a joystick in the middle of the console to rotate the ride vehicle. However, while watching the video, it looks like everyone is just holding their blasters with both hands and the cars are slightly rotating on their own. Maybe the areas shown in the videos are places you don't really need to rotate the ride vehicle so that's why I didn't notice anyone using the joystick.

ETA: I just noticed there's a nice picture of the ride vehicle a few posts above mine. It clearly shows the joystick so I'm guessing that riders will still have to rotate the vehicles themselves -- can't imagine what else the joystick would be for. And I think I remember some descriptions of the new ride vehicles when this refurb was first announced that indicated that people would still have to rotate the vehicles but because of the new blaster units, the rotation would be as critical because guests will have much for flexibility and reach with the new blasters.
