OMG! All this speculation is giving me such a headache. :rotfl2: I love some of these thoughts and ideas. I think the fact that most of them are responsible for a death is a very interesing theory. So do we get answers when the hatch opens or will this only make more questions? All I can say is that I do hope at some point everything falls into place and we do get answers.
Was Locke's mother's name Emily? Does that sound right?

I do think it was Emily, now that you mention it.

I thought the plane that Kate had looked more like an airliner...like the plane they were on.

Did you all notice the religious symbolism in the show last night? How about when, in Locke's dream, Boone was standing on the hatch in the classic crucifiction pose? Can you say sacracficial lamb? I am trying to find out what those symbols on Boone's shirt meant, they only appeared in the dream sequence so they must mean something.

I was so sad for Locke, talk about betrayal....all that was missing was the kiss on the cheek.
I read on the ABC message board that the symbols on Boone's shirt were the numbers 8 and 4 in Chinese.

This is my first time jumping into this conversation. I LOVE this show, and can't wait to see where it leads.

Excuse me if this has been brought up before, but I just couldn't read 100 pages... Last night's episode made me think of how so many of the castaways have issues with their father. I wonder if this is coincidence or if there is a theme we are supposed to be getting. here are a few I have noticed (won't claim 100% accuracy on details)

Locke - the whole Dad/kidney thing

Jack -turning his Dad in for malpractice; flying home with body when plane crashed

Sawyer -Dad and mother died in murder suicide (I think)

Boone/ sister - Dad abandoned them (?)

Charlie - I seem to recall a reference to his Dad being a ne'er-do-well

Jin's wife (arrrgh can't remember name) - her Dad is a crime lord with heavy influnce in her and Jin's life

Walt - working out things with his Dad while on the island

Does this ound about right? Are there other father issues being dealt with? I am not sure where this might lead, but just a pattern I noticed.

Does anyone else think that the Lost writers feed off all the message boards and make up episodes surrounding what the viewers have to say ?? It just seems that way to me ! we get more questions off of what we speculate about> I just love this show !! Oh and I totally agree about Sawyer still looking hot with the glasses !!!

The pattern does make sense in a way without knowing much on Sayid,Kate or Claire in terms of the pattern fitting

I'm pretty sure Locke lied to protect the hatch. He doesn't want anyone else to know about it (but why not?). So that really isn't his first deception.

Am I the only one who is extremely curious how someone who worked in a departement store and later for a box company has so much knowledge about so many things? Locke knew what kind of money the "priest" was carrying, he knows all about plants, hunting, direction, building cradles to large contraptions, you name it, Locke knows about it.
You're definitely not the only one wondering about it. I am, but I don't have enough information to even form a theory on that. I do believe Locke is special. When they showed the "previously on Lost" clips before last night's show, Locke told the guy who wouldn't let him on the walkabout "you don't know who you're dealing with. Don't ever tell me what I can't do. This is destiny, this is my destiny. I'm supposed to do this dammit!" That leads me to believe Locke was having premonitions before the island.

I hate to add too many other things to the mix, but I'm also wondering about:

the Mousetrap game. The writers have said all props are significant, so what does this mean? Is it foreshadowing to the island and they are all in a "mousetrap". He says you build it piece by piece and wait until your opponent lands on the cheese wheel and if you set it up just right you spring the trap. OR was it foreshadowing to the trap laid out by his parents to get him to give the kidney? Is it both? As soon as he says spring the trap they cut to a shot of his mother watching him. Right after his mother asks about the footballs it shows a clip of the "trap" springing, then immediately cuts back to Locke and Boone trying to open the hatch with the catapult looking thing.

Is the boy in this clip Boone? Could this be where their lives intersected in the past?

Locke says he played Mousetrap with his brother. Wonder where he is now?

The paper Locke pulls off his car when he walks out into the parking lot says LOST DOG. Isn't Lock the one who found Vincent on the island? Related??

What was the significance of Locke getting hit by the car?

I have other questions, but I'll hold off for a while.

Some interesting notes:
Emily Annabeth Locke was his mother's name.

Her mental health record has the year 1992 on it, so that has to be close to the time frame of Locke working at the toy store.

WOW! :earseek: Lots of questions, not many answers....is the show picked up again for next year? :confused3 If so, than they should be working on next seasons shows NOW! ;)

Darn! Well I was sort of close with her name at least. Not way off. :rotfl:

I assumed that the Mousetrap game was a parallel between Locke teaching a kid about setting up a contraption for a game and now he is teaching Boone (a kid to him) about setting up a contraption (trebechet-sp?) in real life. It also could be a metaphor for the trap that was about to set on him by his parents.

Locke got hit by the car simply because this episode repeatedly set up ways for us to think "oh--that's how he got paralyzed!" First the car that hit him in the parking lot, then the hunting, then the operation, and then the end of the episode where he was in his car and clearly too distraught to drive.

I read another really really interesting post on imdb, I will post it here but separate from this. It made me smile.

Ok, in the episode with the Boone flashback, there is a scene where Locke and Boone sit around the door hatch wondering how to get into it. A few lines are spoken and then immediately we are thrown into the flashback.

Now, let's pay attention to what the line is... It is a question, and although I have forgotten the exact wording, it is something to the effect of "How do you get a door to open when there is no handle?"

And then we are immediately thrown into the flashback. At the very beginning of this flashback, Boone is knocking on a door. So, I noticed that it seemed almost like an answer to the question.

"How do you get a door to open if there is no handle?"
Knock, knock, knock.

I kept thinking "That's stupid, Mike (that's me). The hatch ain't gonna open if they knock on it!"

And the came last night's episode... And Locke is huddled on top of the hatch crying... And he raises his fist.... Knock.... Knock... Knock.... On comes the light.

Am I crazy? Am I the only one who noticed this? Is this just coincidence that was not planned in advance by the writers? What say you?

Ooooohhh, interesting!

So this goes back to Boone's flashback episode? I'll have to go re-watch that one.

did anybody else notice what Sawyer was reading this week? It was "A Wrinkle in Time" I thought it kind of paralleled the story, kids going off searching for thier missing father with all sorts of paranormal stuff happening.

And I took the plane falling in a completely different way- I felt like the island made the plane crash because Boone WAS contacting someone and the island clearly doesn't want them rescued.

this show is REALLY starting to wierd me out.

I cannot wait for this show to come out on DVD. I will be in line to get it as soon as it does and it better be soon.

You know about a month or so ago I read some posts on another board that thought he was reading A Wrinkle in Time but couldn't tell for sure. There were a lot of theories on that book and the parallels at that time.

I've never read the book, but from what little I know about it there seems to be a lot that parallels Lost. I think the same can be said for some of Stephen Kings work and some old B movies, none of which I have ever read or seen. Just commenting on thoughts by people who have.

The more episodes we see, the more I think they are in another dimension or time. I don't really know how to explain it but I was trying to get at this in another post regarding the radio transmission. The voice on the other end was immediate and definite in saying there were no survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Kind of like it had happened some time before (longer than the month or so they've been on the island). I don't know if I'm making sense or not. I know what I'm thinking, just don't know how to explain it.
Of course on another board someone suggested that the voice on the other end of the radio sounded a lot like Boone. I replayed it several times and it does sound a lot like him. That blows everything I previously thought out of the water.
That's what I like about this show, though. Just when you think you have it figured out, there's a new twist. It's constantly causing me to re-evaluate what I'm thinking and what I think I know.
Now I'm going to have to read A Wrinkle in Time. Even if it doesn't have anything to do with Lost, it sounds so interesting!

a Wrinkle in time is now on my to read list...whos the author? ABC hit the jackpot with this show.

Madeleine L'Engle. It's a children's book. I never read it when I was younger because I thought it was science fiction and I'm not really into that. I owned it when I was an elementary teacher so I'm going to have to go see if I still have it or gave it away.

You're right about the jackpot!

I've read it several times and can't really think of any similarities off the top of my head--I will have to reread it with Lost in mind. Seems like it would be a stretch to find many parallels, but...It's a good book & always worth reading again.
