Lord Manhammer....where have you gone??

Nobody said I hadn't been a prior Diser. People make a lot of assumptions as to why's and what's. I haven't even tried to hide who I might have been in the past. You can't change a user name and be active so you have to start from scratch which I had to do for serious personal reasons.
It’s official…..Lord Manhammer is BACK! 😉

Guess who's back...

Don't have any issues with him personally, but I liked his take on things.
Didn't always agree and don't know about all the drama.

Going to try to not comment again on this thread, but popcorn::

Yeah - I never understand why people post their trip plans.
Even worse people post it on Facebook etc.. and people then know your house may be empty for that period of time.
Odds are low - and its probably rare- but it does happen.
I don't even tell people I work with - I am just out of office working on my yard. They may be fine to tell, but their significant other may not be - that sure seems to be very common.

Every year I see threads for HHN where people post their dates and hotels and the night(s) they will be at HHN.
You are just asking for trouble.

Would be much more sensible to say meet at 2PM on Fridays at Finnegan's if you want to meet others from the boards.

Just because I am paranoid does not mean they are not out to get me.
I disagree. Unless you are social influencer with 1000s followering you it’s perfectly safe.

I have Facebook which is locked down and am only friends with 150 people who I know. Not random people.
My house address is not known to random people as things like phone books don’t exist anymore. Public records in Canada are much more private than the USA. We can’t easily look up where people live or who owns property.

Even if someone did break in we have very little of value. Electronics are easy to replace.

Lots of folks just accept friend requests from anyone and post far more information then they should.
People unknowingly post photos that have the exact GPS coordinates in the Exif data.

One more than one occasion I have emailed someone with their home address or general area and told them it was from a photo they posted. This was a different forum years ago and I think lots of sites remove the exif data now.
Your cell phone pretty much always puts that info in a photo unless you configure it not to or remove the data manually.

On top of that - I know too many people who are dating people that are not on the Up and Up.
Not everyone's friends and family are on the up and up - and some may be in a desperate situation you don't even know about. They may have kids that are not on the up and up as well.

It's not that hard for folks to track people down, might be easier in US than Canada IDK.

Here is one quick example - yeah its 10 years ago and the daily mail so take it with a grain of salt.

Yesterday I saw someone post a death threat to Justin Trudeau on the PMO Facebook page. The dude had a open FB account with his personal email and workplace listed. There are morons out there.

Why don't people lock down their Facebook pages?

Many people know just enough to be dangerous. As in, they're smart enough to create social media accounts and posts with detailed personal information, but then they're not smart enough to make that information either private or curated for certain audiences. You can identify these types because their accounts always get hacked. I always imagine their devices are choked with malware and viruses.

Good question. @gmi3804 said "Many people know just enough to be dangerous."

Even people who think they know a lot, don't always.
Also Microsoft and Google etc... they keep making changes and you really have to keep up with them

Not to go too far off tangent, but the LastPass hack a year or so ago was because a "senior engineer" who should have know better did not update their Plex software.

Mine isn't locked down. Of course, I have literally zero FB friends, not even DW.

Before you start giving me encouragement, the *ONLY* reason I signed up for FB was to watch one of DS' soccer games that was only being streamed on FB live. I hope the pw is stored in case I need it again for something. I haven't been logged on since that game.

I hear that.

One of my biggest frustrations with Universal and their Annual pass is they use FaceBook groups for lots of things

I am the same. I follow groups, restaurants, some political stuff etc on Facebook and Instagram, but I deliberately avoid and delete anyone who tries to follow me. My only followers on Instagram are my children. I never post anything, but sometimes we share posts, restaurant recommendations, nice places to visit etc.

You can change your settings so that no one can even attempt to friend or follow you, and limit friends and followers to only those you invite or add yourself. Unless you enjoy the process of deleting the hangers-on.

Can you do that on Instagram? I will investigate.

Yes, Canada can be a huge pain with official records, especially for genealogy buffs. Canadapage.com seems to have stepped up, not sure if you have ever searched your name there. Not sure what their source for information is.
And the volunteer army of genealogy buffs that populate findagrave.com have been very thorough in updating the site and posting photos even from the tiniest, most remote cemeteries.

Yeah - I was thinking the same thing. If he is just on a suspension he's going to be very unhappy when he gets back.

Pretty sad we have a whole thread disparaging someone who can't defend himself. Even if it's true.

Wasn't there a rule at one time that we weren't supposed to seek users out if they were gone?

I'm not defending him. I'd say this about anyone. JMHO.
Are you him? Timing is about right (new account) and the "tagline" below your username...

For the 3rd or 4th time. I am not him. I defend him because 1. He is not here to defend himself 2. We were friends. He has a dark sense of humor, but is harmless.

Yes, the timing aligns. But it also aligns to other things that happened on the board.

We all could use someone in our corner. The Dis can be a viscious place even though it's meant for people's joint love of the happiest/most magical places on Earth.

Thanks to those who PM'd their support and clearly knew I'm not him.

Canadapage.com takes me to a blank domain. Or that is a domain for sale.
Yes I've used findagrave.com
