Disney Springs and people with suitcases

Went to Sawgrass Mill Mall (huge) near Miami, and it seemed to be some kind of "trend" to roll around a large suitcase or two....

Maybe locals just using them to so they don't have to deal with keeping up with bags? Maybe people with connecting flights that are killing time in between flights from nearby airport and doing some high end shopping?

Thanks for the replies. Definitely saw more on the most recent trip but have been seeing it more and more. For the most part it didn’t seem like resellers. If the bus to MCO leaves from DS that would make sense, otherwise for me I would Uber to airport with a stop back to my hotel. We will use Disney Bus back to hotel and Uber from resort. I would just find it weird shopping or dinning with the suitcase and less I’m at the airport.

Haha, been that way for decades at Sawgrass. They are usually international visitors that are on an excursion from Port Everglades or side trip specifically to shop. They buy the suitcase then fill them as they shop.

It is one of the flaws of the LYNX buses. They created the 311 express to make less stops and as a cheaper option, for being a $2? ticket it is alot cheaper than Uber or other private transfers. Also travelers from other countries would be likely to do that as well. DL Paris for example the RER goes to their Downtown Disney and you have to transfer to hotel from there as well. Others may have checked out or have yet to check into their non-disney resort and did not want to pay for another Uber back to their resort/hotel before heading to the airport.

Saw a bunch in December. One group was being picked up at DTD to be taken to the airport; they were shopping while they waited.

Many of them are resellers/scalpers.

I admit I have taken my luggage to DS although briefly. I had my family(6 of us) booked for 8 days at POR. Our flight was scheduled to arrive at MCO until 11:45pm, meaning we wouldn't get to our resort until after midnight. I elected to stay at one of the neighboring hotels next to DS for a third of the cost than staying an extra night at POR. So in the mourning we checked out with our luggage, walked over to boats for transport to begin our disney magic. Fortunately our rooms we ready around noon so we only spent less than an hour at DS with our luggage.

I haven’t really witnessed this that I can recall (especially with security lines at DS), but another consideration is people with rental cars stopping at DS before heading to airport may be nervous to leave all their luggage in the parking garage. Break-ins could happen.

When we’ve done it, we always take care with where / how we park and how visible the contents are.

Guessing they must take private transportation to DS since luggage is not permitted on Disney buses.

Will say we’ve been to DS many, many times and can’t remember ever seeing someone with luggage. I don’t believe this happens often.
My last trip there were people with luggage on the bus to DS from yacht /beach club. I was surprised as I always thought it was not allowed.

On a trip not long ago there were 2 young European gentlemen ahead of me in the DS security line who each had a very large rolling suitcase and a backpack (I remember it well because my party was waiting for me at the restaurant and searching those large suitcases took forever. I had an extra battery with me that dinged.)

It was mid-morning and these two guys had just gotten off the Lynx express bus from the airport. It's $2 each way, so if you have plenty of time and don't mind cramming luggage on a bus, it's a bargain way to get in from the airport. It drops off at DS, and from there people can either walk or take a cab/carshare to their resort. I think they were killing time before a checkin at one of the DS-area hotels.

I don't think I'd want my luggage to deal with at DS but never knew there was a $2 bus to the airport! That's tempting, but I'm guessing there must be flaws in that system....If we did it and saved our airport transfer money, that's like getting a nice dinner for free!
