We are new pass holders and have a room only trip coming up in a few weeks (AP rate offer). Family is now joining us and suddenly we are adding on character meals and more table service than we usually do. I didn’t consider the DDP till now because of this. We only find it “worth it” when we do character meals (or sit down meals).

I’m waiting to hear back from our planner after she calls Disney to find out what this entails now (probably not till tomorrow) Any experience if this is possible? We have 2 adults and 2 children 3-9.

How many nights is the trip? This plays a role into the math in figuring out if it’s worth it. As well as do either adult drink alcohol at the TS meals? It’s included in the meal and can add value if you were going to order it anyway.

You also get the resort mugs included which are nice to have if you around the resort for quick and easy fountain drink refills or coffee.

4 nights - currently have Ohana breakfast and Chef Mickey dinner and Roundup BBQ booked. We always use mugs and planned to purchase them anyways (my children love this!) My planner made it sound like it would be alot of rebooking etc and maybe not possible. Sounds crazy that Disney would say no thanks to my money!

What you are doing is purchasing a ticketless package. Packages have different payment and cancellation requirements, but if you are okay with that then you should have no trouble adding the DDP to your AP reservation. IIRC you have to call to do it and if you are within the full payment period you will need to pay for the entire package now instead of paying for your room at the time of your trip. Also, you have to do it a minimum of 48 hours before your check in day, so it can’t be last minute. The key words to remember when you call in are “ticketless package”.

For four nights, I believe the TS plan would be 776ish for two adults and two kids (free). 4 resort mugs are worth 91.96 before tax. Ohana is $172 before tax and no alcohol. Chef Mickey is $194 before tax and no alcohol. Roundup BBQ is $154 before tax and no alcohol. Just that totals 611.96. If you add in 4 QS meals per person, 4 snack credits per person, if adults get alcohol with any of the meals, and one more TS meal per person, it works out in your favor.

Hope this helps!

Disney would not permit us adding on. We would need to cancel and rebook everything. They of course could not say if our AP rate would be available to rebook and since we’ve already paid in full it would be a refund situation. Frustrated but what can you do?! Atleast we know now for the rest of the year!

OP reported that Disney said no to adding it on (would be good to know why). However, I do not think they would get children free (if they could add it) because they are staying on a discounted AP rate. I believe you have to be paying a non discounted rate to get the children for free offer.

Did they specifically say why you couldn't add it on? Was it because of the AP discounted rate?

She said the offers could be combined but the whole booking would need to be cancelled and then rebooked with the DDP and free offer attached. We are paid in full so it would require refunding and submitting payment again. Disney advised her not to do this.

I’m sorta tempted to tempt fate because I think we would save money (previous posters showed me it could be a decent amount!). I also can see the AP offer is still available for my room.

One of the few times I wish I booked myself. I like having my friend help but also control here would be nice!

Rebook with what you want before cancelling the one you have now?

Gotcha! One thing you might want to clarify if you do try it. Children may not be free when booking a discounted rate, you might have to book rack rate for that to apply (I am not sure). If you are still within your cancellation period, you could try booking another reservation and adding the dining plan. Price it out and if it works and is a better price, book it then go back and cancel your current reservation. And honestly, I don't think Disney advised that, they don't care. I book and re-book all the time and Disney (and I do call) and they don't bat an eye. And I usually get my refund within 2-3 days. She may not want to go through the process... But, if you rebook it and then cancel the original reservation, she will lose all her commission! At least if she does what you want, she will get something! I agree on the control thing. Good luck!

Sorta. I suspect Disney actually advised not to drop it and then try to rebook it.

When Disney told her they wouldn’t change it into a ticketless package and they can’t transfer the payment to a new booking she should have: asked if it’s available to book as a new booking, if it was put a hold on it (I think they offer 1 day holds at that point) to offer it to you, contacted you immediately with the new offer, explained that the new payment would be required before you get a refund on the old package, and how the cancellation/change policies are different.

Is that some work? Yes. Is it literally what she’s going to be paid by Disney for? Yes.

If you see availability to book it, book it yourself.

Thank you! I’m going to ask her to do this. I’ll update how it goes!
