Thanx gals! Actually it's not that it's a "bad" move at all. We loved SC and consider it home. But we've just really grown to love where we live. It will be tough, but at the same time, at least we're going somewhere familiar.

Ally doesn't know and won't know for awhile. Not until it's a done deal.

But hanging out at the pool today while Ally was on "swine flu break" from school is tough to beat!

Laura - no way would I go back to my old job. I'll still work from home - my company is actually based out of TN.

I am returning to the states after being deployed for 15 LONG months and I am treating my family to a Disney vacation. It is our first time going there and I'm pretty sure at this point I am the most excited, but being in Iraq for over a year would have anyone jumping for joy to be in the real world. I have to drag my husband, as he thinks he will have no fun at all, but the kids DS 6 and DD 3, should have a blast. Any tips for children this young?

First of all THANK YOU for your service!!! We appreciate all your sacrifices! Secondly, Welcome to the DIS!!! Thirdly, study the DIS and you'll find all your answers. I have never been with a real small one. The first time we took our daughter she had just turned 5. We went commando from park open to close each day except one break mid-week. If you are going during the hot months, DEFINITELY get to the parks when they open (preferably a morning EMH when the park opens an hour early) and you will get so much done before lunchtime! Then head back to your resort for some relaxing pool time, maybe a nap for the kids, then head back out for dinner and nighttime entertainment, fireworks, etc.

New to this thread...and a total control freak! I'll be reading along until my trip!

Welcome!!! I have learned so much over the past year and a half from folks on the DIS. And this group on this thread is just wonderful! But my trips are so easy because I use the info I've gained here, and even my husband admits that we do it "right" when we go.

Jeff just told me we are looking at 6-8 months on the move. Which to me means that I'll have about 3-5 months of Disney after our summer pass blackout dates!

Did I tell y'all about the ways that I saw Disney making cutback? Homely princesses. Seriously. So much so that Ally questioned them!!! We told her that Sleeping Beauty must have been up late the night before!! :lmao:

Looks like some of you gals are New Englanders. I am from MA but now live just over the NH border. Where are you guys all located?

i'm in the frozen tundra of minnesota. You will be amazed at what you learn on the dis. kara is right my DH said he was glad that I spent time on here learning things. We had a fantastic trip last year and I haven't stopped coming back because I am addicted to disneyt. My favorite tip is to have your kids clothes in zip top bags, that way there are no discussions over what top goes with which bottom and what sox to wear.

I live in FL but just moved here about a year and a half ago after spending 13 years in SC and now looks like we are transferring BACK to SC, so I have mixed emotions about that.

I agree with the ziploc tip too. Last year I packed everyone's outfits that way so I could color coordinate us each day for pictures!

Other little tips I learned - be at the park for opening each day, especially MK for rope drop. So special! You can knock out an entire section of the park (like all of Fantasyland in MK) in a couple of hours if you are there at park opening.

Always "go left" when the queue line splits off. Tried and true.

To get out of MK quickly without fighting the crowds on Main St, go through the shops starting up by Caseys - they are all interconnected.

In Epcot, do not miss the Kim Possible Adventure! My new favorite attraction! And take your time in the World showcase - explore the countries.

At HS, make sure you get FP for Toy Story Mania first thing!

When you meet Donald Duck, ask him where Mickey is.... when you see Capt Hook, make a "tick tock" noise.

my crazy world continues....I thought it would be good to steam the carpets myself. Hot water only, no soap thus no residue. That is normally not an issue. Got them done. Look great. When I went to put the furniture back--that's when the trouble started. I set a chair near my island in the kitchen. On said island was a container of purple paint. It is paint that is used to make beautiful stained glass creations. It's one of beth's favorite art projects. Mind you the lid was on. I was moving the paint. and SPLAT!!!! all over my chair. I have cream couches. Apparently there was a hole in the bottom of the container that my dear child neglected to tell me about. I now own a cream chair with a subtle hint of purple paint. That's when I called the in-laws and said take them I need a break and proceeded to clean the chair. Now that the chair is clean I have found that the whole set needs to be cleaned. I give!!!! I'm calling Coit or someone and getting an estimate. I'm not doing this myself. Mental note to all moms--Never EVER EVER by cream couches. I knew better but I was childless and thought they would have gone away by the time I had kids.

To quote a wise woman---I was such a better mom before I had kids....

Welcome, and thank you for your servivce. I know it's huge sacrifice to be away from your family. Let us help you jump for joy!:banana::banana:

Kara had some great advice! I learned how to "do" Disney from a veteran Disney goer, but I learned way more on the DIS!

I would add that if you want any sit down meals in the park, you need to plan ahead and get reservations (ADRs) at 90 days out - otherwise it's almost impossible to get a table.

Also, did you know you get a free 5-day park hopper if you go before the end of December? You can get a 5-day one park a day for up to 5 other people for $99. Huge savings! My DH is AF and we just went in March - saved us $500 just for the two of us!

Welcome! We'd love to get to know you! I'm from out in Oregon, so when all the Easterners are chatting in the evening, I'm still in the middle of my day - I'm usually well behind everyone on comments, etc.

Yeah for more Disney months!

The homely princess comments crack me up!:worship: I noticed cut-backs in food, but characters? :lmao:

Oh Laura! What a pain. You really need a "calgon take me away" day!

Kara, I used to work in corporate relocation-I know how you must feel!

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. Does anyone else get annoyed at things like cooking or cleaning that gets in the way of DISing? :-)

Hi long lost friends...OK it was just a day but I feel like its been forever! I HAVE to get things done and I have been very productive. Completely gutted Elizabeth's room and it it looks pretty good but now I have to figure out what to do with everything I took out of there!!!!!!!!! Baby steps........

I hope you guys are all good. I can see on FB how some of you are. I will have to read up here tomorrow!

Have a great night!

Hiya all,

welcome to the new folks...... I am one of the 2 Brits on the thread ... so in a totally different time zone....

Guinea pigs are still alive - I think this is now a record for furry pets at our place....
Had our first barbecue of the year and the first picnic - we are hardy folks over here! Weight loss slowing - and it is ONLY week 3 - but could have a bit to do with the chocolate monster taking control of my brain at "that" time of the month ... hey ho .... should be better next weigh in - Monday....

Weren't we all, Laura, weren't we all.....;) You poor thing - I saw your post on fb, too. There are some killer deals out there now - we got our bedroom furniture at Ashley with 5 years no interest!

Kara, I used to work in corporate relocation-I know how you must feel!

Unfortunately, because I work from home... in front of my computer... when I should be taking a break to clean, I end up on the DIS! My house is a wreck! And luckily, my DH does all the cooking, especially in the summer when he can grill out.

Tessa - 7 lbs in 3 weeks is still great! Keep it up! I've got to get back to the gym, and back to eating right. I've been eating everything under the sun this week - PMS....... And you're cracking me up with the guinea pigs. Sounds like they have a great home and you're taking good care of them.

Well, now Jeff is telling me we might NOT move. It all has to do with expectations of the other auction. Seems it is doing really well, but they just don't like the GM there and want Jeff to move. He doesn't know if he likes that idea or not. He'd rather go into a struggling auction and work on improving it - but this one really isn't struggling, kwim? So now I'm torn. I'd almost gotten used to the idea of moving back to familiar territory. But either way works for me. There's just a lot I want to do to this house if we stay, like lay hardwoods throughout the first floor. And install shutters inside. I don't like our blinds. After looking at homes online in SC, I really miss the warmth of the dark hardwood floors. But we had already talked about doing that, so I guess I could still get that look......

Just checking in - quick hello and warm welcome to our newbies! I hope you stick around and play here. If I do say so myself - we're a fun bunch!

I've seriously neglected the DIS these past few days. Off to the gym now but will be back on later. It's still rainy and gloomy here and the girls won't be home until after 4pm. Therefore I'm thinking of neglecting laundry and bills to come on here for a littl while.

Later!

Kara - 9 MORE DAYS!!!!!!!!!:banana::banana::banana:

Hi girls

I have been MIA again haven't i .. how does this happen??
Busy busy couple of weeks my bf's 2 youngest both have b'days .. Her son's was last sat and her middle girl is tomorrow and we're all off on saturday to see HM the movie, which Cj saw when we were in the States last month, but she's excited to go again haha crazy kid

I have been purposefully raising a strong and independant girl to become a strong and independant woman little did i realise it would backfire on me before she reached womanhood :headache: Anywho we seem to be in calmer waters right now and some major laws have been laid down or i am done for when she hits the teen yrs and starts running rings around me!!!
