I am returning to the states after being deployed for 15 LONG months and I am treating my family to a Disney vacation. It is our first time going there and I'm pretty sure at this point I am the most excited, but being in Iraq for over a year would have anyone jumping for joy to be in the real world. I have to drag my husband, as he thinks he will have no fun at all, but the kids DS 6 and DD 3, should have a blast. Any tips for children this young?
Welcome, and thank you for your servivce. I know it's huge sacrifice to be away from your family. Let us help you jump for joy!

Kara had some great advice! I learned how to "do" Disney from a veteran Disney goer, but I learned way more on the DIS!
I would add that if you want any sit down meals in the park, you need to plan ahead and get reservations (ADRs) at 90 days out - otherwise it's almost impossible to get a table.
Also, did you know you get a free 5-day park hopper if you go before the end of December? You can get a 5-day one park a day for up to 5 other people for $99. Huge savings! My DH is AF and we just went in March - saved us $500 just for the two of us!
New to this thread...and a total control freak! I'll be reading along until my trip!
Welcome! We'd love to get to know you! I'm from out in Oregon, so when all the Easterners are chatting in the evening, I'm still in the middle of my day - I'm usually well behind everyone on comments, etc.
Jeff just told me we are looking at 6-8 months on the move. Which to me means that I'll have about 3-5 months of Disney after our summer pass blackout dates!
Did I tell y'all about the ways that I saw Disney making cutback? Homely princesses. Seriously. So much so that Ally questioned them!!! We told her that Sleeping Beauty must have been up late the night before!!
Yeah for more Disney months!
The homely princess comments crack me up!

I noticed cut-backs in food, but characters?
my crazy world continues....I thought it would be good to steam the carpets myself. Hot water only, no soap thus no residue. That is normally not an issue. Got them done. Look great. When I went to put the furniture back--that's when the trouble started. I set a chair near my island in the kitchen. On said island was a container of purple paint. It is paint that is used to make beautiful stained glass creations. It's one of beth's favorite art projects. Mind you the lid was on. I was moving the paint. and SPLAT!!!! all over my chair. I have cream couches. Apparently there was a hole in the bottom of the container that my dear child neglected to tell me about. I now own a cream chair with a subtle hint of purple paint. That's when I called the in-laws and said take them I need a break and proceeded to clean the chair. Now that the chair is clean I have found that the whole set needs to be cleaned. I give!!!! I'm calling Coit or someone and getting an estimate. I'm not doing this myself. Mental note to all moms--Never EVER EVER by cream couches. I knew better but I was childless and thought they would have gone away by the time I had kids.
To quote a wise woman---I was such a better mom before I had kids....
Oh Laura! What a pain. You really need a "calgon take me away" day!
