We never take just a pool day! My husband could never sit still that long! :rotfl:
We only go swimming for maybe a couple of hours at most.

Perhaps he would if you were there during the Cross Country Runner Convention :rotfl2:

When did you get a price of 79/point? I bought SSR in June 2004. It was 95/point. We did get $3000 off of the total price(1500 for already staying at a disney resort & 1500 payback for a major complaint with our stay). Which brought it to around 75/point. Had we not been staying on WDW property it would have been 95 solid. A year later I was offered 120 points at 90/point + a free extra 100 points. Never once did I ever see those points at that low of a rate. There also were no resales back in 2004. Actually I've never seen an SSR resale

I was typing from memory, I should have typed, "I could only get SSR at $84.00 a point, no matter how I begged and pleaded, I could not get them to honor the $79.00 a point magical beginnings on the 4th day!"

DVC has offered various programs. SSR pre-construction (8/03 - 10/03) prices started at $89 per point when the other resorts were at $84. However they offered a developer's credit of $10 per point, so you paid $79. As with all of the resorts this has been the best deal for SSR.

Then in 11/03 the developer's credit was reduced to $5, yielding $84 per point. Then in 3/04 the developer's credit was replaced by Magical Beginnings where you paid $89 per point but could turn in your first year's points for a credit against the purchase price.

In May 04 the price was raised to $95 per point. I believe they have been running Magical Beginnings, II vacation or APs at various times as incentives over the summer and fall.

Just off the phone with the TTS, Per Jerry, they actually had SSR resales BEFORE the resort opened , so to the best of his memory, their were SSR resales by the end of 2003 at TTS. If you would click on the link to the TimeShare Store at the top of this page you will finally get to see some of the 'rare & elusive' SSR resales, many at better prices today that you have paid, excluding your $1,500.00 bad stay issues credit.

Hope that clears up the issues!

what happened that made disney give you 1500 back due to a bad stay?

SSR re-sales are at timeshare store. click banner at top of page.

low/mid 80's...........

I know this is come off like I'm some kind of bigot, but we had booked a vacation months in advance. We were down there for the first week in June, during Gay Days. I don't have any problem with that except that Disney should have told us. Not to be a Gay Hater but we would have booked a different week. We had my nephew and neice with us one day at MGM and two guys(big, heavy and one was real hairy and sweaty) started making out right in front of me and the kids. I flipped my lid. I could have killed them. What made it worse was the one guy ran up the hill near the exit to ToT. and when he got done feeling the other guy up he ran back down to he ECV and zipped right to the front of the line. One of the CM's i grabbed said that because they didn't see it there was nothing they could do. Later we were at Millionaire and a bunch of them(they were all wearing rainbow shirts)got into a shouting match and started throwing things. they stopped the game and had to get a bunch of security. I only had the kids with me for 2 days and they have to see this. The next day we just stayed at the resort and hung at the pool. My problem was that disney should have told us. When I asked the person at the counter I was told that Gay Days is an Orlando event not sponsored by disney. That's all well and good but you should let people know that it is going on. I don't think that is too much to ask.
I own a vacation home in the Poconos, right by the raceway. They hold a couple big races up there over the summer. The whole area let's people know that it's going to be an overpopulated weekend. Unless you're a race fan you don't want to be there. so we started the letter writing campaign and got some money back

my family is going to be at wfw this may/jun during gay pride days, maybe I can get some money?

I would be happy with some Earls coupons......

Did your children seem to have had a better time once you told them about the rebate?

I've read through 200 posts on this thread and just had to add my 2 cents. I totally agree with the OP. I own at VWL and the BCV. I would never, ever waitlist to stay at SSR. It just does not appeal to me. Way too big, too spread out, not enough foliage and landscaping, rooms too far away from the main pool, just to name a few things. On the positive side, the furnishings are beautiful, but honestly, that is the only thing I can say that I like about it.

My brother just purchased at SSR during our trip in January during the F&F promotion. He really doesn't like SSR either, but wanted to get in DVC, and the price and promotion at the time was too good to pass up, but he, like many others, are hoping to be able to stay elsewhere at the 7 month window. If he can't stay anywhere but SSR he's okay with that, at least he's in Disney, and can use the perks of DVC, but he wasn't blown away by the resort. Why is that? I am totally blown away by VWL and the BCV, although VWL is my absolutely all-time favorite. I could go there and never enter a park and be totally happy. Love the fact that I can be at the pool in minutes, run to the store or grab something to eat in moments, or grab something to eat and drink at the poolside bar and then go sit by the lake and just watch the boats going by. It is relaxation to the ultimate for me. I can't ever envision having that feeling at SSR.

At the BCV I can be at the quiet pool in moments, or take a few minutes walk to SAB, go to B&C for a burger and shake, take a 5 minute jaunt to the Swan and Dolphin or the Boardwalk for a great meal, or hop on over to Epcot or MGM for some food and fun. Being able to walk to DTD is not enough to make me want to add on at SSR. Same goes for the BWV, just don't like the decor or layout there, but at least it has all the other advantages.

As far as OKW goes, true it isn't close to a park, but I love it there also, mainly because of that relaxed feeling I get when I'm there, the spaciousness of the accomodations, and the gorgeous foliage. One of the things I look for when I go to Disney is that "swept away" feeling, and I don't get it from SSR. True, I've never stayed there, but I have walked around the resort quite a bit, and it does nothing for me. I'm dreading the day when I go to make a reservation at the 7month window or later and can "only" get SSR. It should NOT be that way. There should be something to make me say, "I can't wait to stay at SSR". So far, nothing.

My point was that I was an angry customer. I don't have any kids. They were my neice and nephew and what would the money have to do with them?

I did get an official apology, but I still don't know if they tell people about it. We're going to WDW from may 22-30. Gay Days start on 5-31 or 6-1, so I'm getting out before it starts.

I've talked to a few people that accidently booked for the same week and they had some uncomfortable experiences. Hell, one of my oldest friends is gay and he went down for the week last year. He said it wasn't fun at all

I am not even going to touch this comment. All I am going to say is that I cannot believe that you made it. WOW!

my bad, I assumed that because you had complained about what THEY had to see, that WDW refunded the money to some how make their trip better.

Good to see you have an ole friend who is homosexual, he is blessed to have friend like you.

BTW what DVC do you own?

Oh, bpmorley...if I thought that others might not flame you, I most certainly would. (I'm the person that got all bent out of shape that someone got a refund because of a view ;) ). But, I will leave this to other, much more capable hands than myself. But, if I were you....I'd put that suit on pretty darn quick. :firefight

And, B3...I KNOW where you're going with that last question!! :ssst:

You know, I think even I am going to put my :firefight suit on...it's gonna get hot in here REALLY quickly...and, it should!!

Beca

P.S. Can I get a refund if there are people in the park that I find offensive? Hmmm....maybe I should schedule a trip during a cheerleading competition, or when S. America goes on break. Aren't MOST weeks busy at WDW?

Ooohhh!! I've gotta stop!!

Uh Oh....this whole ship is sinking fast! Somebody grab the buckets :sad2:

I do have to say though a $1500 reimbursment sounds insane! Its not Disney's fault that they went on Gay Day

The whole point was that Disney should have relayed this info to anyone booking a stay. Hey someone asked the question. I just provided the answer

It would be discrimination if Disney warned people about it. The litigation would be massive. I'm also pretty sure it would be against the law.

I've seen some real idiots at Disney. A group of five 30'ish year-old New Yorkers talking loudly about their sexual experiences in the San Angel Inn (kids sitting all around them) particularly comes to mind. My Wife persuaded me not to say anything because I was too annoyed, it would only have made it worse. Somehow I didn't think to ask for some kind of a discount or a refund.

Somehow that seems like a pretty unfair and unethical deal you got there. The fact that Disney paid gave somebody a discount becuase they were there during Gay Week sounds like it could open them up to an awful lot of bad publicity.

oh lord........

"yes Mr Johnson, we do have rooms open for that day. You do know the day you have choosen is national red neck day don't you?"

"yes Mr Johnson, we do have rooms open for that day. You do know the day you have choosen is national bass fisherman day don't you?"

"yes Mr Johnson, we do have rooms open for that day. You do know the day you have choosen is national dog lovers day don't you?"

I'll bet ya 100 bucks if you had KNOWN in advance that during your stay there would be a gay pride day, you would have STILL GONE, if you thought you could get a "rebate". You didn't care what your young quest saw, you cared about trying to milk the system for 1500 bucks.....

boooooooooo

BTW, what resort do you own at?

That was a big part of it too. But had I know what was going on I would have just booked for another week. Would have been no big deal. And the point about my friend was that I wasn't the only one that had problems down there. I'm sure everyone on here is so tolerant of everything.

Glass Houses people!

$1500.00 for seeing a few gay folks........

heck, I'll carry their purse for that kinda cash.

<prays others note the sarcasim>

The money was nice I just wanted the apology. And you're wrong, I would not have gone had i known. I'm not one of those people.
